  1. Our last guitarist refused to do Peaches because of the lyrics, I just thought they were just about some bloke walking along the beach thinking what most blokes do when they're walking along a crowded beach if we're being honest, and not being all PC. A lot has changed since 1977 I much preferred Rattus to No More Heroes, the story goes they were both recorded at the same time, the best tracks going on Rattus, when it was a success they quickly released the rest with No More Heroes and Something Better Change added
  2. exactly, anyone whose has charged up a smartphone with this sort of connector knows how flimsy they are, that's the design flaw, which is a real shame and idiotic, because the rest of it is really well thought out
  3. it's not just falling out, the socket is just soldiered onto the circuit board with no other support, so eventually a poor connection results
  4. yes it would be fine just for home use, but the rough and tumble of doing gigs with it exposes the design flaw, shame because apart from that it's excellent
  5. don't know whether you saw my earlier post about the flimsy power supply socket, it will probably fail without some sort of support bracket, both me and the guitarist had to do this, apart from that it is an excellent unit with no other issues that I have found even when we were both using them at the same time
  6. Not advocating it but I've had non payment on two things I was selling on ebay recently, ebay didn't seem bothered in the slightest, more interested in making sure I relisted
  7. cheapest one on the market is the Zoom B1on, changing the settings is tricky till you get used to it but it does everything you'd want, including a looper (though I've never used it on mine) I still use it all the time, tried a Zoom B3 but preferred the B1on because it's a lot smaller and fits into my bass case
  8. the only way to satisfy your curiosity is to try a set, they're not like normal strings, a lot smoother, some like them, I did, some don't, can't say I noticed anything unusual about the tension
  9. depends how much you put into it, in a local 60's covers band I know the bass player has serious health issues, overweight, he can't even put his own socks on, but does 60 odd 90 minute gigs a year, but just stands there and plays, no movement. On the subject of movement I once read somewhere, the bigger the stage the more you have to move to get noticed, exaggerate everything by 10 otherwise it looks like you're not doing anything
  10. I'm using a line 6 G10, great unit, sender plugs straight into the Bass so no messing about with a pack attached to the belt or strap and it recharges when plugged into the receiver , inexpensive at £110, but, and it's a big but, a design fault where the power supply goes into the receiver unit, it's just like a phone charger, very flimsy, I've added a bracket which solves the problem, but I shouldn't have had too.
  11. I had the same thing, went to see the first reformation of Black Sabbath at the NEC Ossie looked about 3 inches tall from where I was, never been since
  12. yet more horror stories about appalling sound at outdoor festivals, the sound from Glastonbury sounded very good on my TV, I'm guessing it wasn't as good if you were actually there, like half a mile from the stage https://www.theguardian.com/money/2019/jun/29/can-you-get-a-refund-if-a-gig-has-bad-sound?CMP=share_btn_fb&fbclid=IwAR3nGeyLTdo77TRx1pOu5-OiqJQ1B0FdtKcdj7UScYHcoxeTzMiEi9Xgr64
  13. just watching Liam Gallagher on the iplayer, I know he's marmite but I enjoyed it, dare I say Lennon esque vocals? and why shouldn't he do Oasis songs? I know he didn't write them but Sinatra didn't write My Way either
  14. I'm definitely number 11, apart from the Mohican, punks didn't have them in 77
  15. Just got an Ashdown EVO iii 500 for £100 because the valve drive is not working, just sort of white noise, is it likely to be just the valve that needs replacing?
  16. I'd be very wary of dealing with anybody with poor communication skills, shows a lack of respect and good manners apart from anything else
  17. always fascinates me how Paul Weller gets away with it, and I like the Jam, I always remember a review of an early Jam album from years ago, "It's like listening to a punch drunk boxer"
  18. I don't think it's just joinmyband, we've been after a new guitarist for a punk covers/originals band, about 50 gigs a year, (all stated in the ad) on joinmyband , facebook ,Gumtree etc, so far we've had 4 replies, one guy got in touch 4 times to exactley the same ad in different places and then said he didn't want covers, despite the fact that's what it said in the ad, another failed to turn up to the audition twice before admitting he was too busy at work, another failed to turn up for audition, then admitted he couldn't really play well enough, hopefully the last one will work out. One of the problems we've found is decent players are already in too many bands to commit to 50 odd gigs a year
  19. I thought he sounded pretty good on a youtube clip I saw, and I don't like his voice in Guns n Roses
  20. that's what I was thinking as I was writing it, I'm convinced it's one of those things you feel like you have to do so you can say you were there.
  21. I see this years Download turned into the usual mudbath, why do people go? massive queues, way overpriced drinks, sanitary conditions that would shame a 3rd world country, miles from the stage ( and if you do get anywhere near idiots think it's good fun to throw pints of fosters) and iffy sound depending where you're standing, and that's before the lottery with the weather. I wouldn't go to Downpour of Glastonbury if you gave me a ticket. The only reason I'd be there was if I was playing, and that's about as likely to happen as finding a sub £5 pint of watered down lager
  22. perhaps Bill had a hand in the lyrics 😄
  23. until you try a set you'll never know, I used to use Elixirs, and they did last about 4 times longer than the Rotosounds I was using, I play with a pick, I went onto DR neon greens (more punky everybody thought) also coated but a completely different animal, not smooth like the Elixirs
