  1. rather than start yet another Beatles thread thought I'd post in this one, anyone see the documentary on BBC4 the other week "Made on Merseyside"? I found it quite interesting, obviously done without official Beatles backing, no Lennon and Macca tracks played, but was really nice to see Pete Best in a good place and eventually getting his financial rewards, worth a look for any Beatles fans
  2. old thread I know, but @Lozz196 mentioned Ash in the 3 piece thread and it reminded me about Girl From Mars, only 4 notes in the song but continually in a different order, does my head in.
  3. Green Day do have now, but they didn't for a good number of years, may have even been up to American Idiot, Basket Case always goes down well
  4. I came across this info a while ago which I found interesting Pre-Shape 1:+6dB at 50Hz and 2kHz, -6dB at 400Hz. Pre-Shape 2: +5dB at 100Hz, +3dB at 3kHz and -5dB at 650Hz.
  5. the presets are very seductive, they sound great when playing on your own, but if you mean the sound can get lost in a band situation I think you're right, I use a bit of overdrive (Sansamp clone) so the compressor doesn't seem to do anything
  6. if you expand it to 3 piece plus a non instrument playing singer, which is the same thing, there's a lot more
  7. this^ I play in a 3 piece + singer and I need to sort of replace the rhythm guitar as well as add bass, I have my TE GP12 30 and 40 Hz sliders all the way down and adjust the 50Hz depending on the room (never above flat though), so I can fill the sound out especially on guitar solo's
  8. yes, but without the pre shapes
  9. I suspect it's because it sounds good to have mids cut whilst playing alone, but it just gets lost in the mix when playing in a band
  10. I always thought a snowflake was someone who easily gets upset by something, sometimes on behalf of someone else who wouldn't be upset about it
  11. if you're using any sort of overdrive/ distortion then that compresses the signal as does valve amps, so like me you'll notice bugger all difference
  12. I've learnt over the years that diplomacy is one the best assets when in a band, you obviously think there might be a problem by the title of the thread, it's too easy for other bass players to come on here and say you're better of out of it they're a bunch of tw*ts, playing Judges Advocate here, perhaps you are playing too slow, most live songs are faster than the originals, nothing worse than a ploddy covers band, and if the band practises too loud get some earplugs (most of them cut out a lot of the guitars high frequencies), a loud amp and stand in front of it. I sometimes think us bassists on here are too quick to think everybody else is out of step, I've never met a band member yet that hasn't got a moan about someone else in the band, me included
  13. this looks overpriced, or am I missing something? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Squier-32-Medium-Scale-Precision-Bass-Left-Handed-Lefty/333127418512?hash=item4d8ff10290:g:BRUAAOSwRiFclRcJ&frcectupt=true
  14. must admit, I'm a bit of a show off, jump around a bit and even fall on the floor at one point, we are in the entertainment business after all, and I write some of the songs and do backing vocals, bit of and average bass player though
  15. I'm a lefty and used to wear my watch on my left hand, till I scratched a Stingray with the metal strap , I changed to wearing on my right hand (fretting hand) after a while of taking it off altogether, which didn't make any difference to my playing I really can't see it being an issue unless it's the weight of a diamond encrusted Rolex
  16. I've got a pair of these Fender V2 cabs, very happy with them, true Neo speakers (unlike the V3's) very transportable 11 -12 Kg each, I get the tone I want, out of them. I use a Trace Elliot head with them
  17. For me his bass playing is sublime, different, bit sublime, some bassists will always think anybody who plays with a pick is rubbish because it's all in the fingers, some still think you've got to sync with the bass drum, and some slag him off because he's successful Apart from one or two efforts I don't particularly rate him as a songwriter since the Beatles split and even in the Beatles, IMO, his songs, generally weren't as good as Lennon's who also wrote some right stinkers after the Beatles, that's what happens when you surround yourself with yes men and take drugs. I remember an interview with him after the debacle that was "Give my regards to Broad St", he admitted it wasn't very good but couldn't understand why nobody told him, err because you pay their wages Paul
  18. I've got a line 6 G10, not recommended, got a weak point where the power supply plugs in, but it does come with a right angled adaptor which gets round the problem of the receiver sticking out and being vulnerable.
  19. I guess if he wrote the song you're on dodgy ground, I sometimes perform "It's Good News Week" at open mics, performed by Hedgehoppers Anonymous but written by Jonathan King, not many people know that 😊
  20. you could say the same about Jimmy Savile, not about playing his songs obviously but never been found guilty in a trial
  21. I've tried custom, never really got on with them, felt isolated, when I lost one I went back to various off the shelf ones, they're a lot easier to take in and out and I do regular hearing checks and my hearings not got any worse, in fact my tinnitus has all but disappeared
  22. well maybe it hadn't, strictly speaking he was a Ephebophiliac, someone who's interested in at the mid to later puberty stage (along with half the 70's rock stars, or so it seems sometimes) there's even Hebephilia, someone who likes boys or/and girls in the beginning of puberty (Gary Glitter), paedophilia has become the all encompassing word for anyone who has sexual relations with someone who is under the age of consent, when in fact it's someone who likes prepubescent children Now, I find them all disturbing but paedophiles are surely the worst of a bad lot
  23. I've seen the Glitter Band twice in the last 10 years (different versions) both of them did the Gary Glitter hits as well as there own stuff, both gigs went down a storm, I think if people know what to expect the ones that go are fine with it, I suppose if, out of the blue a band played some Glitter stuff it might cause problems, but if you're a Glam rock band they'd sort of expect it
  24. must admit, not heard that rumour, I read it was a couple of 12 year old girls, he's always been prosecuted for girls, think he'll be on my 'no' list now though, just read one of them was under 10 😫
  25. it's a personal decision we all have to make, I'm ok listening to most music apart from artists where pre pubescent boys and girls have been involved, so Glitter is just about in, Jackson out, of course it helps a lot if you like the music. It doesn't make much difference, to me, whether they been found guilty in a court because that's down to luck, who they know (Savile, Cyril Smith etc)lawyers, what country the case is heard in, and the jury We did Another Rock and Roll Christmas for a couple of years with no problems, went down rather well
