  1. not sure they replace them that would cost over £100 (mine cost £130 including labour) I think they just clean the dust out and spray the pots with that Servisol stuff, don't see what else there is to do and seeing as neither of my heads have a fan can't see a lot of point myself, but I'm no expert so could be wrong
  2. yep, I had them replaced in my GP12 SMX head last year, seems louder then ever now
  3. don't like sunburst, especially with a tort pickguard, really like white with a tort pickguard though
  4. the way I do it, on the cheap, is plug in the mic, bass, whatever into my mic input on my laptop, I've made a home made box to be able to record two tracks at once, stereo left and right, and convert 6.3mm jacks to a stereo mini jack, and record using Audacity, works fine just for demos
  5. not me either, I had a 1 x 15 trace combo that only did one gig due to the problems with getting in and out of my car, great for a rehearsal studio but not for a gigging bassist, unless you've got a gorilla for a roadie
  6. I could find it very condescending when people pick up on grammatical errors when the intention is obvious, you may think it's in jest but it just looks (to some) like you're being a smart a*se
  7. no problem with different opinions, it's what most of the threads are about, it's when some can't except someone else's without resorting to insults
  8. I was having this conversation with a fellow bass player and dog walker the other day, the drummer in his band was wanting 18" subs because he used and electronic kit, we both concluded that it's not the depth that's important but the definition, which is why us bassist are moving away from 15" speakers
  9. Basschat is mostly reflective of people in general, most are fair minded, friendly and good company, with a few idiots thrown into the mix. Two things I've found helpful, don't post when alcohol is involved and wait ten minutes before hitting the 'submit reply button' on contentious issue. Sadly I have not always followed my own rules
  10. that's the only conclusion to be drawn after standing next to numerous sound desks thinking "How on earth can he think this sounds ok?"
  11. yep, bands 'classic albums' are perhaps the most accessible for non fans, i.e. Sgt Pepper and the Clash's London Calling for instance. I thought Dark Side of the Moon was drivel along with Tubular Bells, but hey, can't argue that they're classic albums, wouldn't do for us all to like the same thing would it?
  12. one mans classic album is another mans "nah, not my cup of tea" Anyway listening to albums all the way through is so yesterday, if I want to check out an artist I just play their favourite tracks on Spotify. Let's be honest how many albums are there where you like all the tracks? think we did a thread on that once
  13. yep, lowest common denominator and all that, that's why rubbish TV shows are the most popular
  14. it's amazing how many venues have steps or even stairs, and sometimes even a stage
  15. maybe I was lucky then, he liked the Beatles, but lost it when I got into Hendrix and Black Sabbath
  16. I really must watch this on catch up, was it a full capo or was it to alter the tuning, like capo the G D A strings to drop tune the E?
  17. Despite always saying otherwise, we've all turned into our Dads
  18. IMO all this comparison malarkey is fairly pointless unless it's done in a band situation
  19. Us neither, I never tick I'm attending gigs on FB, and some people regularly say they're attending and we never see them There was a case reported a couple of months ago where the artist was fiddling the FB figures to give the impression they'd be loads there, trouble is when someone checked up they all lived in Brazil or somewhere like that
  20. the main trouble I encounter with FOH sound is a muddy sub bass so I always cut anything below 50Hz before the signal gets sent to the desk.
  21. we've just had a gig pulled for 11th January, because the pub company don't think we'll get enough people there based on the number of people who say they're attending on Facebook, that's a first
  22. had the misfortune to have some of the Xmas TOTP's on, what a depressing experience, a succession of girl singers singing middle of the road computer generated (or so it seemed) songs, about the edgiest thing I heard was the sausage rolls song. So, yes the Jools show is still needed, just not Jools
  23. the problem with Jools is not the music, I accept I'm probably only going to like one artist per programme if I'm lucky, they have to try and cater for everyone, it's his, mostly, embarrassing interviews and his insistence on accompanying at least one act per programme on the piano with that smug look of his. I think they need a change of presenter myself
  24. I've had a few Jazz's and respectfully disagree, if that were the case why would anybody bother with a Precision?
  25. sales of £280M means nothing really it's profit that counts
