  1. just got a new lefty one, black, rose wood neck, and white pick guard Bad, sharp frets on the underside of the dusty end, the tuners are poor, very stiff especially the D string, and the set up was appalling, well it hadn't had one basically but thankfully the nut was correctly cut. Good, it sounds like a precision, louder than my USA Fender a little bit 'narlier' , good bridge and pick ups and now it is set up plays well. I got it for £200 new while ebay had a 15% off everything offer on, so overall looks like a good buy I'll be gigging it at the weekend so I'll see how it performs then Update, used it at a gig last night, surprisingly it was deeper bass than my USA P and louder, but no problems and surprise surprise only I could tell the difference apart from the volume, it played as well as my USA P. I use a bit of overdrive, when I tried it without there did seem volume differences between the strings, but that could be the strings or pickup height adjustment. So, I'll be keeping it for back up and gigs where I don't want to risk taking my USA P
  2. sort off, I had a mono 6.3mm jack to two phono males and a stereo 6.3mm jack to two phono females, but yes you could make your own up with a single mono jack and single stereo jack, just run the one wire from the mono plug to the left and right ones in the stereo plug
  3. we get a mono sound to each ear by using a mono to stereo lead from our mixer amp (Yamaha 512 SC, which only has 1 monitor out) to the in ear transmitter, I know it's frowned upon by some on here but I only use one ear piece which also acts as an ear plug for the singers vocal and my backing vocal, the singer uses two though
  4. of course most peoples weaknesses must include an over inflated personnel view of their ability and importance in the band, me included probably
  5. yep, me and our singer use them, they do the job for us, we use our own in ear headphones though though, neither of us (for different reasons) could keep the supplied ones in
  6. the band I'm in does Punk (I may have mentioned that before ), so if it's a punk song we're doing we try and get close to the original, but if it's not we try to put our own slant on it, even if it's just playing it faster😊 One thing I never get is tribute bands that try and sell their recordings of the band they are a tribute of, why would you do that and why would anybody buy it?
  7. strengths, reliable, decent gear and will turn up at rehearsals having learnt the new song, write most of the songs (on the last album anyway) and have decent backing vocals, and try and make sure things don't go wrong, before they go wrong Weaknesses, make the most mistakes of anyone in the band, fight my corner a little too hard on occasions, and, as far as the rest of the band are concerned, can't see how socialism could possibly work
  8. just listened to Booze and Glory and I can see why you'd like them, well worth a listen, the lyrics lack a bit of finesse for me, I have the same trouble with Dirt Box Disco, but like you say it's all very familiar, but that's what happens when you get a bit older even if you like some newly recorded music it's not that new. I like the other track on here Isaac Gracie, but it does remind me of the Vaccines
  9. I very rarely check out new music these days, I always said I'd never get like the old fogey's who were always saying "the music's not as good as in my day" but here I am, sort of, I do occasionally stumble across a new song I like but you know what? it always reminds me of an old song I like, so I just think I've got about 5000 tracks on my music player, that's enough for me. I know I could be missing out on something I really like but I just can't be bothered to wade through all the stuff I don't anymore
  10. If he's selling them they're not pointless to someone and presumable he is, it does seem to be a speciality of his.
  11. I would imagine most music shops have some sort of internet presence, if they haven't they deserve to go bust, at one time if you wanted something locally you went to yellow pages, now you google it. It's not a question of good guys and bad guys it's evolution, just like the Supermarkets have killed off the corner shop, especially since they moved into the convenience sector
  12. I too think he gets a hard time on here, there's an air of pomposity about, alright his''modifications' might not be to everyone's taste, but his descriptions seem totally honest so he's not trying hide anything and surely if he's selling rubbish he'd have some negative feedback by now. Alright some of his customers might be disappointed but if the item is as described that's their fault not his
  13. I think most people can do their own basic set ups after a while, there's plenty of good tutorials on youtube, so we're back to catering for the newbies. The more I think about it the more I realise the High St and outlets like small music shops are stuffed by the internet and out of town retail parks.
  14. He's still got 100% feedback 😊
  15. they'd better be just bought a lefty off ebay, 15%off today, paid £200
  16. yep, I'm a P man (and play in a Punk band) as well, put off getting one for a few years because being a lefty I had to splash out on a USA one, no second hand ones seem to crop up when I was was looking , tried Stingray's and Jazz's first but the P just sits in the mix so much better. I have to slightly different point but, this is why trying out equipment in shops is a waste of time, until you've lived with it and played it in a band (assuming that's what you do) you'll never know whether a piece of equipment is right for your needs.
  17. going wireless, finally got a line 6 G10, after our guitarist bought one, a really well thought out piece of kit
  18. I suppose if there's a crossover it could stop the higher frequencies going to the other speakers, just disconnect it before the crossover if there is one, doubt you could tell either way though, personally unless you're slapping I've never seen the point of a tweeter in a bass cab, I have mine switched off, not that I can tell if they're on or off
  19. depends on the rateable value apparently You will not pay business rates on a property with a rateable value of £12,000 or less. For properties with a rateable value of £12,001 to £15,000, the rate of relief will go down gradually from 100% to 0%. If your rateable value is £13,500, you'll get50% off your bill.
  20. depending on the size a lot of small shops have zero business rates to pay (don't know how much location has to do with it), I know my old newsagents shop falls into that category
  21. Cheers, we've decided on something similar, the Shure WH20 XLR so we don't have to mess about using a different plug and phantom power, there doesn't seem many about that are not designed for use with some sort of power pack
  22. anybody any experience of this one https://www.thomann.de/gb/shure_pga31.htm#bewertung
  23. Our drummer does backing vocals, trouble is he keeps moving his head while playing so a headset mic would seem to be the answer, don't want to pay a lot and doesn't have to be wireless, any suggestions anybody?
  24. if it was released today it would probably be banned, I'm always surprised that it's still played on the radio,
