  1. Bob Dylan, his songs always seem to sound better when someone else sings them
  2. I never got Bowie after the Spiders got the boot, enjoyed Hunky Dory though, Led Zep never released a single, in this country anyway, as far as I know, liked their first 4 albums (mostly) but can't stand Stairway to Heaven, nought so funny as folk
  3. Sgt Pepper was the Album for non Beatle fans, has a 2 or 3 decent tracks on it the rest, meh, agree with you about Bird Can Sing, mine and John Peel's favourite Beatles Track
  4. George Martin thought the same about the white Album, I don't think there are many double albums that wouldn't be better as a single, apart from anything else it's an awful lot for the listener to take in at one time, I suppose they come about when artist get 'big' and no one dare tell them which songs are good and which are rubbish, (or they won't listen) The only double I like in its entirety is the Ramones It's Alive double live album which is not the same thing at all
  5. a lot of people think the reverse, I like Plant's voice but am ok with Youngs, but the singers voice can make or break an artist for some, I can't stand Guns n Roses because of Axl's voice, some hate Oasis because of Liam Gallagher's Went off AC DC when Bon Scott died, Brian Johnson's voice was just too screechy for me
  6. Bruce Springsteen, I have tried but
  7. me and our guitarist use Line 6 G10's very affordable well thought out, we've had no issues, the only downside is it uses a USB lead and plug (supplied) for the charger/ receiver unit https://www.andertons.co.uk/guitar-dept/guitar-wireless-systems/line-6-relay-g10-digital-wireless-guitar-system
  8. usually wide open except on the few reggae/ska songs we do then I have the tone closed (P bass) so I use them as on/off switches really.
  9. we're a Punk band but we have to quickly qualify it by saying 1977 style otherwise pub landlords start to think of shouty shouty Exploited type of stuff, it is tricky, punk is a very wide genre (as @Lozz196 was explaining) from something like the Buzzcocks through to Crass and anybody that can't really play tend describe themselves as punk, we're definitely at the Buzzcock end of things
  10. I do open mics with my partner on drums (I say drums, just a snare, hi hat and crash) with me on acoustic guitar and singing, just an excuse to spend an evening in the pub really, she says I speed up and I say "No you have", to which she replies "I'm only following you" wrong way round methinks, or maybe not
  11. if you're getting that many gigs maybe it's not as big a problem as you think, I know from experience it's easy to start getting things out of proportion, just a thought.
  12. I'm always surprised how fast we play live, no bad thing for a punk band
  13. I have had this problem occasionally, I just say to the drummer "I'm not good enough to play this song at this speed" usually does the trick. But adrenaline kicks in and a lot of bands play faster live, listen to live albums, they do play faster than studio versions of the same songs
  14. I've got an the same TE amp, and following a recent discussion about High Pass Filters I have the 30 and 40 Hz sliders at at -15db, cleans up the sound, gets rid of low end grunge, and instead of boosting what you want have you tried cutting what you don't? doesn't look far off one the TE preshapes the way you've got it set
  15. thought so, you're right they don't pay the full whack, might not work at the moment though, the open mic is so popular they can't get all the acts on sometimes and a full band stteing up causes chaos
  16. just in case anybody's not seen the Fender thread https://shop.fender.com/en-GB/electric-basses/precision-bass/player-precision-bass-left-handed/0149822506.html#start=1 at last a MIM lefty precision
  17. bloody hell, maple fingerboard too, very tempting, decent range of colours too, for leftie's
  18. where's that Kev, the Hop Pole?
  19. I know what you mean, but my main gripe with TOTP was the miming, no attempt to even make a decent fist of it, there are a few clips of bands playing live (Bowie doing the Jean Genie is absolute gold) but in the main it was total miming, if we were lucky the singer had to sing live to the backing tape
  20. debatable, depends on the drummer I suppose, but what is not debatable is the fact that a drum machine is a lot less trouble, what's the joke, something about only having to punch it in once? 😃
  21. I really must get round to watching the last two episodes, I'm really glad it's not like the good old days though, when I had to sit though the whole of the Old Grey Whistle in the hope of seeing the odd good act, at least we've got fast forward buttons now, count your blessing you youngsters
  22. that's fine if it's a band that's been going a while and built up a reputation but if it's a new band with not many gigs under their belt it may be worthwhile
  23. of course there's probably just as many bad bass players about as there are drummers, guitarist and singers, the advantage we've got is "who notices the bass player" 😊
  24. one of the best guitar sounds I ever heard was a Glam rock band, the guitarist had a little practice amp cranked right up going through the PA, sounded awesome
  25. I've seen finger players try it without distortion and it sounds awful, you need a lot of distortion and a pick, slow the intro right down with audacity or something like that to get the rhythm, once you've done that it's fairly straight forward apart from the guitar solo, never could figure that out so I just do what sounds right
