  1. I used to think that whenever I heard one it was clank clank clank, but recently I've heard a couple that sounded suburb, Duncan Reid (of the Boys fame) and Paul Gray on the Damned tour
  2. yes, Trace didn't make many duds but this was one, had the misfortune to use one on a multi band gig, "Trace Elliot combo supplied" oh goody methinks
  3. I've got an old encore, found it next to a dust bin, never bothered stringing it as a leftie, tried playing it, as @bertbass says it was like starting to play again but knowing what you're supposed to be doing, frustrating as hell and not easy, hopefully I won't have to do it, yesterday's gig went ok
  4. Did a gig last night and for the first time arthritis in the knuckle of my fretting ring finger affected my playing, early days but got me wondering if anybody else has tried to swap left to right or vice versa after learning reasonably proficiently one way ? if so how did it go? I know the guy out of the Bootleg Beatles switched from right to left.
  5. JJ doesn't play it live like the record I think they may have double tracked it. I just run down from the 12 fret playing fast then play the 3 fret on the D string and open g for the last note near enough for me.
  6. another innovation that I think would improve any bass is a zero fret, no more messing about filing the nut (and going too far, opps)
  7. me? I don't take any chances, luminous tape off ebay and before anybody says it, no I've not stuck them on the wrong side, I really am left handed
  8. on the subject of remastering being a money making exercise by the record company, having bought the original, I have no qualms about obtaining the remaster for free by whatever means possible
  9. the stereo Beatles stuff was nothing to do with remastering that was how they were released originally, nobody took stereo seriously in the early 60's, when they remastered the Beatles catalogue they made a point of releasing the first 4 albums in mono as well as stereo, and they do sound better in mono. Incidentally, the first Ramones album was released with guitar in one channel and bass in the other, very strange
  10. in my limited experience it's the bass guitar that's more prominent in the mix, well the Beatles and the Clash's are, so I prefer them, but I suppose it depends whose done the remix, everything does seem clearer though so all in all I think they are a good thing, mostly
  11. I don't think it's just the cab, I've got a Trace 1 x 15 and I can shave 5Kg off the weight by swapping a non neo eminence with the Trace original
  12. we're all different, that's the main attraction of Trace heads for me, the GP12 gives me the chance to shape my sound better, especially like being able to cut the 30Hz and 40Hz area to clean up my sound and cut out any boom that happens in certain rooms
  13. TBH I tried drums and found that boring, each to there own
  14. same reason there's no lefty violin players, they could poke out the eye of the guy sitting next to them
  15. I have wondered about this, perhaps with guitar playing the left and right hand do totally different things, also, how many lefties have given up trying to play other instruments because they can't get left handed ones? Does anybody play double basses the wrong way on with the strings changed round?
  16. big sales and good records are not related at all, big sales could mean people bought it because it was easily accessible and dumbed down, not always true but more likely to be if it's an established band already
  17. perhaps Napoleon was a guitarist (apparently he made everybody drive on the right because he was left handed)
  18. Trace head and lightweight cabs
  19. probably just me, but producers messing about with the drum sound seems to age records, in the 80's it was the fashion to have enormous sounding snare drums high in the mix, sounds awful to me, now it seems to be clicky sounding kick drums, why can't they just record the drums how they're supposed to sound? some albums sound good because they do sound dated (mainly because they're recorded almost live) Elvis's sun sessions and the Beatles Please Please Me (mono) spring to mind
  20. or my favourite cover version, ever
  21. Bob Dylan, his songs always seem to sound better when someone else sings them
  22. I never got Bowie after the Spiders got the boot, enjoyed Hunky Dory though, Led Zep never released a single, in this country anyway, as far as I know, liked their first 4 albums (mostly) but can't stand Stairway to Heaven, nought so funny as folk
  23. Sgt Pepper was the Album for non Beatle fans, has a 2 or 3 decent tracks on it the rest, meh, agree with you about Bird Can Sing, mine and John Peel's favourite Beatles Track
  24. George Martin thought the same about the white Album, I don't think there are many double albums that wouldn't be better as a single, apart from anything else it's an awful lot for the listener to take in at one time, I suppose they come about when artist get 'big' and no one dare tell them which songs are good and which are rubbish, (or they won't listen) The only double I like in its entirety is the Ramones It's Alive double live album which is not the same thing at all
  25. a lot of people think the reverse, I like Plant's voice but am ok with Youngs, but the singers voice can make or break an artist for some, I can't stand Guns n Roses because of Axl's voice, some hate Oasis because of Liam Gallagher's Went off AC DC when Bon Scott died, Brian Johnson's voice was just too screechy for me
