  1. yeah I do that for our guitarist, admits he can't sing but doesn't stop him trying, at a gig recently I kept turning him down all to no avail, still too loud, at half time I found out we'd mixed up the the usual inputs on the mixer, I'd been turning myself down
  2. I use a B1on for gigs, smaller, lighter, I don't change it mid song or make adjustments on the fly but the B3 is better for making adjustments just to see what happens, so I guess I'm very similar
  3. I had a MB 210 combo for a few years, no problem with it, nice tone and very loud, just moved onto something lighter, I don't think Marshall do class D or Neo speakers do they?
  4. surely, whoever starts the song sets the tempo? unless you're using a click track of some sort (having said that we still sometimes speed up when the drummer comes in), as I said earlier lots of bands play tracks faster live than the recorded version, it's called adrenalin
  5. after hearing the Dickies version of paranoid the Sabbath one always sounds a bit ploddy to me (and definitely Nights in White Satin)
  6. the internet has completely changed the face of retailing, Maplin and Toy R us are the latest victims, even Newsagents (I used to own one) are nearly all gone, around where I live anyway, who has a newspaper delivered these days?newspaper circulation is falling of a cliff
  7. because they can't resist showing off, it's the same reason most of us get up on a stage if we're being honest otherwise we'd just be happy rehearsing all the time (nothing wrong with that, some people are), but they really should resist the temptation, if the customer is a beginner they just intimidate them, if they're experienced they just think what a silly billy
  8. all good answer I just don't think about at the time, didn't buy the guitar btw
  9. I'm not that comfortable to be honest, they're usually run by some muso, who stands there taking sharp intakes of breath, the last time I went in one to try out an acoustic guitar I played 'That's Entertainment' and was told I was doing it in the wrong Key!
  10. Never heard a fingerstyle player play Motorhead very well, but yeah I know what you mean, with a bit of EQ fiddling both styles will usually do the job
  11. or half the watts if they're Trace Elliot, sorry just got back from the pub, the point is manufacturers measure watts in different ways and, IMO, for some reason Class D watts just don't seem as loud, maybe class A/B amps compress the signal, but not as much as valve amps but more than class D amps?
  12. I suppose it depends why you're in a band and what type of band, personally I wouldn't be happy playing stuff I don't like, and wouldn't really expect anybody else too, but we're all different. As for getting paid, yes you're more likely too if you're just a hired hand but not necessarily so, I know an originals band that is run by the singer/songwriter and they hardly ever get paid for gigs
  13. every member of our band has a veto, if they really don't want to do a song we don't do it, of course it relies on people not over using it
  14. when you here live versions of well known songs I've found they're almost always faster than the original recordings
  15. I'd much rather play with a drummer that speeds up than slows down
  16. I think you'll find that every older generation has said more or less the same thing about 'modern' music, remember the Rolling Stones and the Sex pistols being labelled as a bad influence on Kids? I don't like a lot of modern stuff especially rap, but I avoid saying it's rubbish, it's just not my cup of tea
  17. cheap TV and an excuse for a free fosters up? as for the musical content I don't get it, but I'm not supposed to at my age, my Dad didn't get Jimi Hendrix
  18. yep, I've got a TE GP12, that combined with 2 preshape settings is a recipe for endless twiddling, since it dawned on me that what sounds good on my own and what sounds good in a band situation are two completely different things I just cut the 30 and 40Hz sliders and maybe 5Hz and above depending on the state of my strings and the room, I should add I also use a Zoom B1on bass drive sim mode to try and compensate for my dodgy technique
  19. so too sum up, when you produce a product that doesn't wear out, it's market is in decline, and can be made just as well mostly by machine anywhere in the world, you're fcuked
  20. heaven, bass below the waist played with a pick hell, bass just under the chin played with fingers, I'll get my coat and put my tin hat on
  21. Just got one of these on the recommendation of our guitarist, ticks all my boxes, the main ones being internal rechargeable batteries that charge up when the receiver is plugged into the transmitter and the receiver plugs straight into the bass, no belt pack required. Edit, Have discovered a design flaw, where the power supply plugs in, it is a mini USB plug (similar to a phone) the socket is just attached to the circuit board, it becomes loose with use and easily becomes disconnected, just like a phone charger. I've solved the problem (hopefully) by fitting a bracket, but I shouldn't have too.
  22. is it worth upgrading?
  23. my Line 6 G10 arrived today as promised with the excellent DPD delivery service (they tell you which hour it's going to be delivered in), so in the end, just a minor irritation, I would use Andertons again, still think it said 'in stock' when I placed my original order but not 100% certain
  24. good price, I paid £135 to have mine done in Nottingham
  25. absolutely, in a Elf thread on here they're saying a 200 watt Elf head is only just loud enough for gigging with a band, class D watts are totally different from old Trace watts
