there's always 2 sides to every story, bass player I know got the sack, bitterly complaining the others are taking it too seriously, it's only a hobby, fair enough, I talked to a another guy out of the band he said the bass player never practiced at home they spent all the practices reteaching him the parts, I saw them live a couple of times the bassist always sounded ok to me, I suspect the truth was somewhere in the middle it usually is

one man's meat and all that, I sold a Stingray, nothing wrong with it just not my thing, I sort of told a porky, said I was joining a Clash tribute and needed a Precision which was half true, I just wanted a Precision, still got it, gas has disappeared, thankfully, but I do think it's over the top to say "best bass I've ever played but need to thin the herd" well sell one of the others then!

the story goes that JJ tried hundreds of basses trying to get 'the sound' of that Green P and failed, a complete fluke, presumably it was the fault in the wood that gave it that sound

I think the innovator bit was tongue in cheek, and yes he was chosen more for his image than musical ability (the same as Paul Simonon was originally), but I think he could play rudimentary bass as upside downer says, the story that he only had 6 weeks to learn bass (which may have been true, or at least to learn the Sex Pistols songs)) and failed miserably was another McClaren publicity stunt

old thread revival alert, 39 years ago today Sid played the drugs once too often, and I was watching John Lydon on needle time this very morning (recorded) had some nice things to say about Steve Jones and Paul Cook's playing, confirmed Glen Matlock liked pop a bit too much and didn't get the irony on his lyrics (and Steve Jones didn't know what they were). Back to Sid, I don't think he was as bad as the publicity made him out to be, just played root notes but that's what Steve Jones played on most of the Pistols songs after Matlock got the sack, McClaren also made a big thing of the fact that none of them could play, which is obviously not true.

yep I get that, I was just saying it goes down to 20Hz I think someone earlier in the thread said another Zoom only went down to 40Hz, altough I think you could minmize that by stacking the Ba PEQ and using a high Q, still not the same as a HPF I agree

just had a look at my B1on and the para EQ goes down to 20Hz

just idling thinking really, with the increased tension would you be able to lower the strings without getting fret buzz?

I've just bought a set of 5 string bass strings (because they were as cheap as 4 string ones), I've only got a 4 string bass, has anybody fitted the thicker 4 strings out of a 5 string set of strings (120,100,80 and 60's) to a 4 string bass (with standard tuning)? what happened?

I think other bass players always sound better than me, but then people say how come your band sounds so full and loud with one guitarist and I think, maybe I'm doing something right

I get that but if it was adjustable you could use it to get rid of stuff you can hear but don't want, say anything below 40Hz
