  1. of course Pans People would never be allowed in this political Correct age, how degrading for women. you lot ought to be ashamed of yourselves for reminiscing about it
  2. commercial stations target their audience, so PR aren't interested in the teens and housewives, they've got their own stations like Radio 1, Capitol and Smooth, if people don't hear what they like every couple of tunes they change stations, that's the price for having more stations, if you want more eclectic stuff Radio 6 may be the answer, but they'll be a load of stuff you don't like.
  3. ah, the prog rock years, aren't they the ones that got all sniffy and said Punks couldn't play?
  4. depends what you were into really, but the Old Grey Whistle Test was too prog rock for me when whispering Bob was in charge, once he went it improved no end, for me anyway, but it did have one major advantage over TOTP's in that the acts actually had to play live, which I always prefer to miming (which is also the problem with music video's), if I was being really controversial I'd say Jools Holland isn't a million miles away from the OGWT
  5. I sort of agree with him on the putting effort in, it requires a lot of dedication and hard work to 'make it' and even then the chances are very very low, as for not making money from record sales, welcome to the digital age, the Gene is not going back in the bottle no matter how much we wish it would
  6. don't think so http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTKORcr1jhY
  7. just wonder what the youth of today will be reminiscing about in 40 years time, I'll bet they'll be moaning about the kids of 2060, nostalgia eh?
  8. all sounds a bit dodgy to me, think she probably realised, she'd got no comeback if she paid the full amount then you didn't refund the difference, the proper way would have been to change the 'buy it now' price, if I've understood it all properly
  9. a receipt would help cover you for receiving stolen goods with the Police if it got that far
  10. basic stuff really, but usually you only pay cash if you're picking it up, in which case you'll know the address, I've only ever exchanged cash for an amp once at the motorway services, driving away I realised I'd not asked for a receipt but I had bought it through ebay so I was sort of covered. I'm surprised how often I've sold stuff for cash and not been asked for a receipt (never) but, again, they were picking it up from my house. edit, I do ask for a receipt for high value items just in case they turn round and say I've stolen it from them
  11. I agree, I use different settings for home practice with headphones, it's a different ball game entirely when using a bass rig at volume in a band situation
  12. or, if your knobs are ones with a flat side to them, just take a photo of them with your phone (just thought of that) if your PA speaker cables are identical and you daisy chain them put some tape round the ends of one of them to stop you mixing up the PA speakers and the monitors, otherwise you spend a lot of time wondering why the mixer adjustments are doing odd things
  13. I was using the Zoom 160 comp, threshhold on -32, ratio 5 (5:1?) gain 6, soft knee and level on 100, which means is the neutral setting, mostly.
  14. tried a compressor at a gig last night, in front of the sansamp bass drive sim on my Zoom, then switched it off after a few songs, my sound was clearer and more dynamic with the compressor off, doubt if the crowd noticed, but I did, so I guess the bass drive does enough compressing for me
  15. stuck record here, Audacity is free, I tried transcribe on a 30 free trial and found it didn't do anything I couldn't do with Audacity, the only thing it did better was it was clearer when you got slower that about 35%
  16. you can just select the bit you want press shift then play and it'll keep playing in that loop
  17. doesn't Audacity do the same thing?
  18. got to agree having a front man with personality is most important, and I always say if the band don't look like you're enjoying it how do you expect the crowd too? even if you can't jump around a lot there's nothing to stop you dressing up a bit, black T shirt with some bands name on it, scruffy blue jeans and dirty trainers just don't cut it IMO, if the level of musicianship is excellent but there's no show a disco would do the job
  19. ah, you've sussed me, I haven't actually used one live yet, all this talk of you can't really hear what a compressor is doing prompted me to check if you could see what it was doing , I really must give it a go
  20. it is a bit extreme just realised hard knee was switched on, the other settings were threshold -32 ratio 5:1
  21. I've just recorded this with my zoom B3 (it's the intro to Tube Station) both with the bass drive sim on but one without the 160 comp compressor and on e with it on before the bass drive, the bottom one is compressed
  22. they're probably doing you a favour then
  23. you don't say how long it's been 'sitting' at the retailers, as with all these consumer laws 'reasonable' is used a lot, a huge grey area, why don't you ask the retailer for the loan of an amp till yours is repaired?
  24. record sales have been in decline since the hey day of the 70's way before streaming, it has become harder to assess popularity of music because of streaming, but venues are closing because they can't make money out of music, because not enough punters want to attend, simple as that
