  1. I've had them done to my SMX head recently, how much did it cost you? if you don't mind telling me that is
  2. there's been several threads similar to this, I use a Trace head with lightweight cabs, get the best of both worlds, and a 200 watt old Trace head is more than enough IMO, used my series 6 200 watt head at the weekend, had it on 3 and was told to turn down! small pub admittedly but we have a bloody noisey drummer
  3. link doesn't seem to be working
  4. thought it was just me, but I'm not complaining, the last thing I need is some drunken nerd I can't get rid of asking me about my gear and the way I play songs, that's guitarist territory, thankfully, although I did get told by a fellow bassist who I'm quite friendly with that my Fender V2 cabs underneath my Trace head was just wrong and would I like to borrow his Trace combo, only if you'll carry it around for me came the reply
  5. yep I'm the opposite too, tried a stingray and a Jazz but my Precision just sounds better, to me, in a band situation, 1 Guitar and drums.
  6. haven't been in a music shop for years, as with a lot of retail business' the internet has killed them, I've never been satisfied with trying gear out before buying, until I've lived with it for a while and played in a band situation I've never had much idea whether it's what I want, being cack handed the choice is almost non existent anyway, I remember ringing round for a left handed Yamaha acoustic "We can order one for you sir" "Yeah but I want to try one first" "Well one of our staff can play a right handed one for you" , I reverted to my normal practice of buying second hand then moving it on at minimal cost if it wasn't what I wanted
  7. I would suggest that anybody like me who has the amp gain up to 10, then uses a drive pedal a compressor would be a waste of money, but if you're the type that likes a very clean sound then it might have some merit.
  8. so presumably a 200 watt Trace Elliot Elf is not the same as old fashioned Trace Elliot watts?
  9. just checked the web site and it is saying available to order, normally available in 5 days, which is not the same as in stock obviously, can't remember whether it was saying in stock when I order mine tbh, but I'll watch out for that in the future. In stock at gear4music, £7 dearer, I'd have ordered from there if I'd realised at the time
  10. just think that they should know instantly when they've sold the last one in these days off computerised stock systems, so should show out of stock on their web site, I wanted it for this weekend, but it's not the end of the world but I don't want to be waiting weeks for it, think I'll give them a ring like you say
  11. so I ordered a Line 6 G10 wireless unit from Andertons yesterday, showing an in stock item, receive an email today saying out of stock, new stock arriving around Feb 19th. Is this a regular occurrence and how reliable is the restocking date?
  12. we have no way of getting an individual mix, it's just extra gear to buy, store and carry around with extra set up and take down time, we just don't want to go down that road yet. I just posted my experience this weekend because I know there's other bands like us who want to keep things as simple as possible
  13. yes but that's another 4 mics (3 if you Di the bass) and 4 more cables then balance them all, why bother when it works ok as it is?
  14. a lot of the time the audience doesn't know what the bass does because they can't bloody hear it, people go on about what a great tone JJ Burnel has (had) but that's because it's so high in the mix, not saying it's not a great tone but if it was at the same level as say Bad Religion which I'm listening to as I type this nobody would have a clue what his tone was
  15. give it a few more gigs then try and get the drummer and guitarist to get receivers and then get rid of the monitors. We really don't want to go down the route of micing everything up if that's what you mean
  16. I've just had a couple of gigs at the weekend with IEM done on the cheap, we've got a gear4music transmitter and a couple of receivers, for me and the singer, I just set it up with 2 in ear earphones in then had to take one out to hear my bass and the band properly (replacing it with a generic ear plug) because we only have vocals going through the PA and it worked out ok I can tell a lot easier whether me and the singer are in harmony
  17. yes, he proved he's no slouch with the Tomorrows Girls bass line, imo the Subs were never the same when he left, I saw the original line up in 2008? when they got back together for a tour, Pete Davis on Drums, and it was just like the old UK Subs again, it showed, to me at least, the bass player does matter, no disrespect to Alvin Gibbs but it just wasn't quite the same with him on Bass
  18. shame he's so low in the mix and his trebly sound doesn't help, Inflammable Material is so lacking in bottom end
  19. I sold this last September for £160 (bought it for £120, but with postage and ebay fees just about broke even) decent bass but a bit overpriced I'd say oh yeah, I'd be surprised if it was a Matsumoku
  20. I use hydrogen, you have to do the drums yourself but it's easy enough, and it's free, do a 2 bar drum beat and it just keeps repeating in pattern mode and then you just adjust the speed You can record it with audacity then save to an MP3, I use my laptop for practice
  21. so was the 'hide post' option on forum posts for a while
  22. that's what I meant, can you imagine Lemmy playing bass for the Pistols? wasn't having a go at him as a bass player
  23. tbh I'm not sure Lemmy was the best person to teach anyone bass
  24. you might benefit then, I forgot to mention I use a bassdrive sim which slightly overdrives the signal which acts as a compressor, forgot about that
  25. yes, I should add I play with a pick which could be why I don't notice them doing much
