  1. I've tried a B3 but found it not easy to switch between patches, I couldn't find a way of doing it with a single operation of the footswitch (although there may be a way I've just not found), that and the size meant I went back to the B1on
  2. this looks a decent price considering the cost of new Precisions these days, don't like sunburst myself https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152870120346?ul_noapp=true
  3. tend to get a lot of repeated stuff after a couple of pages on a topic, people can't be bothered to read them all
  4. best bet is get a gig on a multi band bill, (say you've got loads of mates who will come and see you), that way you don't need much gear only need about 8 songs and you'll have a target if it's about 4 months away, that's what we did anyway, that was 12 years and about 400 gigs ago
  5. on one of our own songs I finish it by playing all four strings open, wonder what chord that is? Em11?
  6. sounds like you wished you'd never asked , I know what you mean, millions of people out there have been put off learning an instrument because they've been told they need loads of theory when all they want is to play a tune, I've 'taught' a couple of people to play guitar by tuning it to open E and just barring the top 2 or 3 strings so they could get a tune out it, they both went on to learn 'properly'
  7. TOTP did got through a period when everybody had to play live, I think it was so bad the soon abandoned the idea, shame they never show those performances, the story I heard was the band were required to record the backing track during the day (union rules) so they could mime to it on the show, the Beeb turned a blind eye so management could swap the tapes for the recorded versions afterwards, I think some bands took the fosters because they objected to miming, certainly Jimmy Pursey (Sham 69) insisted on singing live to a backing track, hence the intro "look who's on top of the pops mum"
  8. five pages of pontificating, and you know what? I couldn't give a fcuk how many notes make a chord
  9. I suspect we may talking about different types of muting here, muted all the time or muting to stop strings being played by accident or cut off the note to stop it sustaining too long
  10. I can't ever recall dropping a pick while playing, they've sometimes slipped round, I use Dunlop Nylons 94mm luminous ones they're easier to find in the dark, not very luminous though
  11. I mute mostly with my freting hand, the bottom E ( and A sometimes) by hooking my thumb over the neck or if playing a note on the A string just touch the E string with the freting finger, if playing an open string with the side of my picking hand, hope that makes sense
  12. yes, it's pointless paying out for extra insurance until you've read the small print
  13. most courier insurance excludes musical instruments, I wonder why?
  14. power chords are great, you don't have to bother with all this major minor malarkey, just turn the overdrive up to 11 and thrash away, thirds sound rubbish anyway with distortion
  15. there are bargains in the collection only market, picked up a Trace SMX GP12 head for £120 and a pair of Mission 760i's for £1.37 which is why I always courier if possible
  16. it is, sorry Lefty J for doubting you, bit naughty of the seller to describe it as an Precision Standard and leaving Squier out of the title and description, apparently they're nothing special (ply body?)
  17. done a bit of research, like I should have done first , apparently Fender did make these basses in the early 90's, bit naughty of the seller to try and make out it's a Standard Precision though
  18. posted this on the Southpaw spotted thread, someone has said they think it's genuine, I didn't know Fender made basses in Korea, I would have thought it's a Squier with a Fender decal at best, I'm no expert though, oh yeah, the seller has no feedback https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/132466934492?ul_noapp=true edit, just had another look, it says Squier series in smaller letters, so has someone put a Fender decal on it?
  19. are you saying it's a genuine Fender then? and not a Squier with a Fender decal just seen the seller has no feedback, which sets alarm bells ringing in me
  20. Some sellers will courier if you ask them, I think it's paypal that's putting sellers off (does me) of course the buyer takes all the risk by using bank transfer, but the pendulum does seem to have swung to far in favour of the buyer with paypal
  21. Fake? precision, says made in Korea on the headstock https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/132466934492?ul_noapp=true
  22. you see, me being old school, if you can't do it live I'm not really interested, to me it's a bit like going down the local pub and finding a singer singing along to a backing tape, it's just cheating as far as I'm concerned, loopers are the same, but I do realise I'm just an old fart from a bygone age, oh yeah, don't like rap either, or all the many genres of it, you see I quite like a melody line to hook up too, told you I was old school
  23. very clever I'm sure, not really my cup of tea, I'm more of a Rock and Roll sort of guy, I'm probably showing my complete ignorance here but you say invite him to one of our pub gigs, how would it be done it live?
  24. yep, live hard die (relatively) young, they haven't all got the constitution of Keef unfortunately, that's them all gone now, along with The Ramones, got me wondering how many other bands have none of the original line up left alive
  25. he certainly was unlucky, having to play bass in a band with Mitch Mitchell on drums, one story was they need someone to keep it simple just to hold the whole thing together
