  1. yes, he proved he's no slouch with the Tomorrows Girls bass line, imo the Subs were never the same when he left, I saw the original line up in 2008? when they got back together for a tour, Pete Davis on Drums, and it was just like the old UK Subs again, it showed, to me at least, the bass player does matter, no disrespect to Alvin Gibbs but it just wasn't quite the same with him on Bass
  2. shame he's so low in the mix and his trebly sound doesn't help, Inflammable Material is so lacking in bottom end
  3. I sold this last September for £160 (bought it for £120, but with postage and ebay fees just about broke even) decent bass but a bit overpriced I'd say oh yeah, I'd be surprised if it was a Matsumoku
  4. I use hydrogen, you have to do the drums yourself but it's easy enough, and it's free, do a 2 bar drum beat and it just keeps repeating in pattern mode and then you just adjust the speed You can record it with audacity then save to an MP3, I use my laptop for practice
  5. so was the 'hide post' option on forum posts for a while
  6. that's what I meant, can you imagine Lemmy playing bass for the Pistols? wasn't having a go at him as a bass player
  7. tbh I'm not sure Lemmy was the best person to teach anyone bass
  8. you might benefit then, I forgot to mention I use a bassdrive sim which slightly overdrives the signal which acts as a compressor, forgot about that
  9. yes, I should add I play with a pick which could be why I don't notice them doing much
  10. I've tried them, could never figure out what they do, I know what they're supposed to do, any sound difference is minimal in my experience
  11. well that was interesting, tried the slapping over the pickup method @Jus Lukin suggested, once again the Zoom had little or no effect but turning down the 30Hz slider (-15db) on my Trace GP12 did, so maybe my zoom is a load of cack
  12. no blend here's a link to the settings, not sure what you mean by 50/50 https://www.zoom-na.com/sites/default/files/products/downloads/pdfs/E_B1on_B1Xon_FX-list_100.pdf
  13. just set up my Zoom B1on with 4 Ac Bs pre stacked, all set to 9 on Depth 50 on gain, level on 100 everything else on 0, took off the speaker grill, made no difference at all to speaker travel, more snake oil? or am I missing something?
  14. sometimes people are got rid of because they've lined up someone else, ask Pete Best
  15. you could try 105's as your E string, they'll be a tighter tension, I've never had this trouble but mines a MIA with high mass bridge and grooves for the string
  16. I asked the same thing when I accidently duplicated a post
  17. there's always 2 sides to every story, bass player I know got the sack, bitterly complaining the others are taking it too seriously, it's only a hobby, fair enough, I talked to a another guy out of the band he said the bass player never practiced at home they spent all the practices reteaching him the parts, I saw them live a couple of times the bassist always sounded ok to me, I suspect the truth was somewhere in the middle it usually is
  18. Oi, we finish our set with a Sid inspired My Way, always goes down a storm, but you're right the Beatles were punky in their leather clad early Hamburg days, but it was Hamburg that taught them to play. It could be argued that Stu Sutcliffe was a worse bass player than Sid
  19. one man's meat and all that, I sold a Stingray, nothing wrong with it just not my thing, I sort of told a porky, said I was joining a Clash tribute and needed a Precision which was half true, I just wanted a Precision, still got it, gas has disappeared, thankfully, but I do think it's over the top to say "best bass I've ever played but need to thin the herd" well sell one of the others then!
  20. the story goes that JJ tried hundreds of basses trying to get 'the sound' of that Green P and failed, a complete fluke, presumably it was the fault in the wood that gave it that sound
  21. but it was never the same, is that right?
  22. £200? the price of a Squier Affinity?
  23. I think the innovator bit was tongue in cheek, and yes he was chosen more for his image than musical ability (the same as Paul Simonon was originally), but I think he could play rudimentary bass as upside downer says, the story that he only had 6 weeks to learn bass (which may have been true, or at least to learn the Sex Pistols songs)) and failed miserably was another McClaren publicity stunt
  24. cheapest option is the B1on
  25. this one works for me https://reverb.com/item/2381439-reverb-clip-on-tuner-uk-exclusive?utm_campaign=uktuner you have to put uktuner in the code box to get it for £2 the trick is not to pluck the strings too hard, bit odd I know when it works on vibrations (Ithink), trouble with clip on tuners is they don't work very well in a noisy environment, well mine don't anyway
