  1. A well worn discussion, if you could get a P sound from a Jazz they wouldn't bother making P's but the nearest I've got is to fit a push pull switch to make the pickups in series
  2. I may be off the mark here but if your 300 watt Trace isn't loud enough there's something wrong, I've just having the output transistors replaced in mine after suddenly losing volume, according to the repair guy they do leak with age and are ok on low volumes but lose umph when turned up
  3. limited experience of class D amps, our Yamaha powered mixer is and I had a Fender Rumble 500 V3, both run very cool, indeed, I thought this was one of the advantages of class D's, looks like I was wrong
  4. true, or even Lambretta's, forgot about how many hours I spent cleaning the spark plug in the mistaken belief it would make it run better
  5. just add my bit, I practice through my laptop, just plug my bass into the mic socket (with a reducing jack) and plug the headphones ( any headphones) into the output jack and away I go no problems with volume or overloading (which I suspect is the 'fuzz' that's being talked about)
  6. we do a couple of Ska songs in the set, Monkey Man and Rat Race, I just turn the treble down on my P bass, cuts through nicely
  7. if you paid on a credit card (which I always do, cashback) it doesn't matter if it takes a few days
  8. I don't mind paying a fair price for a good job and if that's what's needed so be it, I want this amp to last me, just thought £70 was a bit high just for transistors, which seems to be the case, I'll ask him if he's replaced anything else when I pick it up
  9. well I was thinking £70 sounded high, would he be replacing anything else while he was at it?, I should add he was recommended by our Guitarist who's used him for years, always been weil happy with his work
  10. I asked this question on another thread but didn't really get an answer, wrong forum, My Trace Elliot SMX AH250 recently suffered volume issues at a gig, took it in for repair and was told, not surprisingly, that the output transistors needed replacing (Mosfets?), anyway I've been quoted £135 to repair it, £70 for the parts, does this sound reasonable?
  11. the output transistors (mosfets) have just packed up on my SMX GP12 AH250, been quoted £135 does that sound reasonable?
  12. they're not always appropriate, if you need to choke off the note for instance or two open strings together but where they are they are a Godsend, there are songs I couldn't play nearly as well without using them
  13. I was chatting to a guitarist whose just taken up bass the other day, he said "never realised how much easier it was if you use open strings where you can"
  14. I know this is probably a stupid question but if you don't need portability why do you need bluetooth? Just plug your device in to your Hi Fi or whatever with a lead
  15. I think it's the TE preshape buttons that's the 'Trace' sound' smiley face on the EQ to different extents, Pre-Shape 1:+6dB at 50Hz and 2kHz, -6dB at 400Hz. Pre-Shape 2: +5dB at 100Hz, +3dB at 3kHz and -5dB at 650Hz. IMO sounds great on your own but not in a band situation, I use Trace Elliots but not the preshape button, to me the seem to have a nice thick sound that cuts through, in other words mids, the opposite of the preshape sound
  16. don't know how it compares to reaper but Kristal is totally free
  17. yep, and in this day and age with very few Police patrol cars on the road they rely heavily on number plate recognition cameras, fortunately they can't tell if you're coming back from a gig after having had a couple of pints
  18. I wish we had hit the threshold but it's our Guitarist's daughter's band that has, they're called Kagoule
  19. you are absolutely right of course, but how many cover bands bother? hardly any I'm guessing, our Guitarist's daughter is in an up and coming Indy band and they recently received a donation from the PRS from the unclaimed royalty fund
  20. funnily enough http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5188153/West-Yorkshire-police-seize-car-no-commuter-insurance.html
  21. Thanks for the reply, so you're better off just submitting your own songs, in other words if you're doing a mostly cover version gig there's little point in claiming the royalty,
  22. does it matter how many? we usually do a mixture of covers and originals
  23. never had one of those, I've emailed them
