  1. got the payment but can't find a breakdown of what it's for
  2. where do you get your statements from BRX? I've tried to find them online but can only find the total figure paid to me,. So when we play a pub gig and we're the only ones on we'll get £6 regardless of how many and what songs (originals or covers) we put down on the set list?
  3. I'm in the process of submitting our gigs for performing rights, how accurate does the set list have to be? obviously I'd sooner submit our own songs but we do covers as well, does it make any difference to the payment which songs you do?
  4. We had an acoustic gig and I was asked if I was getting one, my answer being what's the point if you're going to plug it in anyway? "but it would look better" came the reply, sorry I'm really not that bothered
  5. with the overwhelming consensus being that acoustic basses just aren't loud enough perhaps a (rechargeable) battery operated combo might do it
  6. they've probably got some algorithm built into the system now that susses out those that change every year, I've been with the same car insurance company for 4 years now, always say I don't want auto renew though, unheard off a few years ago
  7. if you've been doing auto rollover I'm not surprised your premiums are high, always always do a quick comparison site job to see if it's cheaper elsewhere, loyalty counts for nothing in the insurance world, of course if you've have been doing this I apologise.
  8. we think our songs are good enough, trouble is when you've written and performed them you're in no position to judge, much too close and biased, by that I'm not saying they aren't any good, it's just that I (we) can't tell
  9. trouble with original songs is the vast majority are instantly forgettable to anyone except those who wrote and played the song, I include myself in that statement
  10. not on my page, just says left handed Fender bass
  11. does it say that anywhere in the ad?
  12. maybe I'm being really thick here but I can't see his location
  13. depends on you attitude to risk, on insurance forms it asks what you occupation is, not occupations, some folk don't like to leave anything to chance, take out maintenance contracts for instance, or extra insurance for bass gear, other weigh up the risk and decide whether to take it or not, me? the chances of having an accident and then the insurance company finding out you were going/returning from a paying gig and then saying you're not insured are about the same as me winning the lottery, but at the end of the day it's what you feel comfortable with
  14. Garden Party, "You can't please everyone so you gotta please yourself"
  15. at the end of the day the only way to decide on an amp is to try it out, and I don't mean in a shop but in a band situation which means buying one and living with it for a while (or finding a rehearsal studio with one, that's how got on the Trace Elliot amps), this thread just proves it's all a matter of opinion we all have different needs from equipment depending on a host of different factors otherwise we'd all be using the same bass through the same amp and speakers
  16. I enjoy both, I will say I think you can write better songs through having learnt to play covers
  17. and also a fine example of why Macca's songs could be a bit corny without Lennon's input, originally it was "looked like a beauty Queen", apparently.
  18. this and try for a not too complicated name, people have got to remember it when you say check us out on Facebook, I'd avoid stupid spellings as well for this reason
  19. I know what you mean, I think Segs Jennings play it all down strokes, but I can't do it so resort to up and down and it's not quite the same, some songs I can play on a good day but always liable to trip up, the intro to In the city being one, can't do I Saw Her Standing There either, but I use the excuse Macca's playing a short scale bass
  20. and through a poor quality tannoy, the sound quality is appalling, something like dial a disc on the phone if anybody can remember that, but really loud
  21. My Dad used to buy me the latest Beatles LP for Christmas, bless him
  22. I agree with the sentiment but BC would be a very boring place if people didn't try and justify their opinions, that's not to say we should start insulting each other, IMO (see what I did there :-) )that just polarises opinions.
  23. this is true, but there's total dross in any era of music, I don't think there ever been an era that progressed so much, started out with manufactured solo artist like Pat Boon and finished up with heavy and progressive rock like Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Black Sabbath and Led Zepplin
  24. I have been known to say our Drummer on occasions "Sometimes less is more" or "what you don't play is just as important as what you do"
