  1. yep, and in this day and age with very few Police patrol cars on the road they rely heavily on number plate recognition cameras, fortunately they can't tell if you're coming back from a gig after having had a couple of pints
  2. I wish we had hit the threshold but it's our Guitarist's daughter's band that has, they're called Kagoule
  3. you are absolutely right of course, but how many cover bands bother? hardly any I'm guessing, our Guitarist's daughter is in an up and coming Indy band and they recently received a donation from the PRS from the unclaimed royalty fund
  4. funnily enough http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5188153/West-Yorkshire-police-seize-car-no-commuter-insurance.html
  5. Thanks for the reply, so you're better off just submitting your own songs, in other words if you're doing a mostly cover version gig there's little point in claiming the royalty,
  6. does it matter how many? we usually do a mixture of covers and originals
  7. never had one of those, I've emailed them
  8. got the payment but can't find a breakdown of what it's for
  9. where do you get your statements from BRX? I've tried to find them online but can only find the total figure paid to me,. So when we play a pub gig and we're the only ones on we'll get £6 regardless of how many and what songs (originals or covers) we put down on the set list?
  10. I'm in the process of submitting our gigs for performing rights, how accurate does the set list have to be? obviously I'd sooner submit our own songs but we do covers as well, does it make any difference to the payment which songs you do?
  11. We had an acoustic gig and I was asked if I was getting one, my answer being what's the point if you're going to plug it in anyway? "but it would look better" came the reply, sorry I'm really not that bothered
  12. with the overwhelming consensus being that acoustic basses just aren't loud enough perhaps a (rechargeable) battery operated combo might do it
  13. they've probably got some algorithm built into the system now that susses out those that change every year, I've been with the same car insurance company for 4 years now, always say I don't want auto renew though, unheard off a few years ago
  14. if you've been doing auto rollover I'm not surprised your premiums are high, always always do a quick comparison site job to see if it's cheaper elsewhere, loyalty counts for nothing in the insurance world, of course if you've have been doing this I apologise.
  15. we think our songs are good enough, trouble is when you've written and performed them you're in no position to judge, much too close and biased, by that I'm not saying they aren't any good, it's just that I (we) can't tell
  16. trouble with original songs is the vast majority are instantly forgettable to anyone except those who wrote and played the song, I include myself in that statement
  17. not on my page, just says left handed Fender bass
  18. does it say that anywhere in the ad?
  19. maybe I'm being really thick here but I can't see his location
  20. I'm not good enough to be semi pro
  21. depends on you attitude to risk, on insurance forms it asks what you occupation is, not occupations, some folk don't like to leave anything to chance, take out maintenance contracts for instance, or extra insurance for bass gear, other weigh up the risk and decide whether to take it or not, me? the chances of having an accident and then the insurance company finding out you were going/returning from a paying gig and then saying you're not insured are about the same as me winning the lottery, but at the end of the day it's what you feel comfortable with
  22. Garden Party, "You can't please everyone so you gotta please yourself"
  23. at the end of the day the only way to decide on an amp is to try it out, and I don't mean in a shop but in a band situation which means buying one and living with it for a while (or finding a rehearsal studio with one, that's how got on the Trace Elliot amps), this thread just proves it's all a matter of opinion we all have different needs from equipment depending on a host of different factors otherwise we'd all be using the same bass through the same amp and speakers
  24. I enjoy both, I will say I think you can write better songs through having learnt to play covers
  25. and also a fine example of why Macca's songs could be a bit corny without Lennon's input, originally it was "looked like a beauty Queen", apparently.
