  1. there does seem to be one or two on here saying original and Rock shouldn't be used in the same sentence, they do have a point
  2. £70 for parts £65 labour, the amp sounds fine, it did go downhill fast tbh, I switched it on and after a few seconds the power amp section cut out, I messed about with the speaker cables and it started working again but wasn't very powerful, finished the gig on full volume and it was distorting, on reflection I should have gone and got my backup out of the car
  3. Thanks for that, got the amp back with the 4 old mosfets, I've googled them but no luck, on reflection I think it was a fair price
  4. I see record sales enjoyed there biggest growth for 10 years, just goes to show I know bugger all
  5. Essential I'd say along with a bass drum logo, and you need a stand of some sorts, pubs don't like you gaffa taping it to their walls
  6. Music Man Stingray a Zoom B3 (much prefer the Zoom B1on) Trace Elliot combo's (love the heads, I have two, but the combo's are just too heavy and cumbersome, somebody offered me one on free loan at the weekend, I turned him down)
  7. yep, there's a lot of rubbish out there, after a couple of bad gigs most folk give up and stop going, the promoters have to share responsibility for this, they can't be bothered to do their homework and are just interested in how many mates a band can bring in, I've also found that a lot of smallish venues have a bloody awful sound (or soundmen) as well
  8. How much if you don't mind me asking, just paid £70 for 4 mofset transistors
  9. I've pondered this question myself, the main way bands 'made it' in the old days was to get a record deal with all the professional promotion that entailed, there is so little money in record sales these days that record companies are very loathed to sign bands up
  10. maybe the language was a bit harsh, but deep down isn't that why people buy vintage things, to impress other people, it makes them feel good, there again it could be just me that just doesn't get it
  11. they're not, but they're worth more because people will pay more then try and convince themselves it must sound better because of the cost, People like to own rare things, makes them feel superior
  12. never had a good voice, but it still sounds the same which is more than can be said about Macca
  13. can't help you there I'm afraid, mines a passive, maybe someone else will know or email Sandberg
  14. I did it to my Jazz, plenty of info online about it and the push pull volume pots a easy to come by, you'll need a soldering iron though, just google it
  15. all bands that make it need a lot of luck, but to stay there needs talent as well
  16. I just don't get these honours, what's the point? nice for the unknowns (like the little old lady that's done school crossings for 50 years) but the rich and famous, isn't being lucky enough to be rich and famous enough?
  17. A well worn discussion, if you could get a P sound from a Jazz they wouldn't bother making P's but the nearest I've got is to fit a push pull switch to make the pickups in series
  18. I may be off the mark here but if your 300 watt Trace isn't loud enough there's something wrong, I've just having the output transistors replaced in mine after suddenly losing volume, according to the repair guy they do leak with age and are ok on low volumes but lose umph when turned up
  19. limited experience of class D amps, our Yamaha powered mixer is and I had a Fender Rumble 500 V3, both run very cool, indeed, I thought this was one of the advantages of class D's, looks like I was wrong
  20. true, or even Lambretta's, forgot about how many hours I spent cleaning the spark plug in the mistaken belief it would make it run better
  21. who changes just one spark plug? (apart from on a lawn mower)
  22. just add my bit, I practice through my laptop, just plug my bass into the mic socket (with a reducing jack) and plug the headphones ( any headphones) into the output jack and away I go no problems with volume or overloading (which I suspect is the 'fuzz' that's being talked about)
  23. we do a couple of Ska songs in the set, Monkey Man and Rat Race, I just turn the treble down on my P bass, cuts through nicely
  24. if you paid on a credit card (which I always do, cashback) it doesn't matter if it takes a few days
  25. I don't mind paying a fair price for a good job and if that's what's needed so be it, I want this amp to last me, just thought £70 was a bit high just for transistors, which seems to be the case, I'll ask him if he's replaced anything else when I pick it up
