What’s the Bassline that you really had to work at
PaulWarning replied to Toddy17's topic in General Discussion
I know what you mean, I think Segs Jennings play it all down strokes, but I can't do it so resort to up and down and it's not quite the same, some songs I can play on a good day but always liable to trip up, the intro to In the city being one, can't do I Saw Her Standing There either, but I use the excuse Macca's playing a short scale bass -
and through a poor quality tannoy, the sound quality is appalling, something like dial a disc on the phone if anybody can remember that, but really loud

My Dad used to buy me the latest Beatles LP for Christmas, bless him
-
I agree with the sentiment but BC would be a very boring place if people didn't try and justify their opinions, that's not to say we should start insulting each other, IMO (see what I did there :-) )that just polarises opinions.

this is true, but there's total dross in any era of music, I don't think there ever been an era that progressed so much, started out with manufactured solo artist like Pat Boon and finished up with heavy and progressive rock like Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Black Sabbath and Led Zepplin
-
I have been known to say our Drummer on occasions "Sometimes less is more" or "what you don't play is just as important as what you do"
-
-
just had to google Neil Peart to find out who he is lol, I'm not really into prog rock and hate drum solo's, I think Ringo did one once
-
as has been alluded too in another thread 'what makes a good drummer' it's not just how you play but if you get on with your band mates, I think Ringo was the only Beatle not to fall out with anybody, he was the only one they all worked with after the split

similar to fleabag, I plug into my laptop and use headphones

another device to get people to buy stuff they don't really need with money they haven't really got

love the profanity filter

Macca's take on that was he had written his good songs while in the Beatles, he just couldn't get them on albums, it was downhill after all things must pass he seemed to be suggesting, then again, most of the post Beatles stuff wasn't as good (imo), no quality control, i.e. that song is stinky poo Paul,
-
regarding Macca and Lennons songs, I'm the other way round, apart from a few exceptions I found McCartney's songs twee and middle of the road, Lennon's had a lot more bite to them, something for everyone I suppose, Ringo's drumming always sounded ok to me, I'm told he was behind the beat, but then again a drummer's got to be really bad before I notice, it's not difficult hit the snare on the off beat, right? it's not like they've got to play the right notes
-
that's fair enough, no reason for the fee to include free drinks then, but if some members aren't driving and it's free drinks don't be surprised at the result
-
must admit I'd be very wary of a fee that included free drinks, in my experience drunk band members do not put in a good performance
-
cheapest way, connect your casette deck to the mic input on your computer and use audacity (free) to record it and chop it up how you want

and nobody's mentioned Mr Phillips yet

a drummer who can put up with smart arsed bass players who think they have no faults

we charge £500 double our normal fee, but we're cheap and we know it

Open strings: Yay or nay, with reasons.
PaulWarning replied to Telebass's topic in General Discussion
I'll play open strings if possible gives me more time to get to the next fret, but don't play 2 together to avoid damping problems edit, that's one after the other not together literally -
yes got it sorted, not sure what I was doing wrong to be honest, it was the same note open and at the 12th with a tuner but first few frets were sharp, then I redid using the harmonic and it was ok and it's still right open and on the 12th fret, must just be more accurate the harmonic way I guess, but yes if you have to decide it's better to be right on the first 5 frets than down at the dusty end

I have noticed that threads I've unfollowed are now reappearing in 'content I commented on' even though I unfollowed them in the 'old' basschat, and they're showing as not followed so I can't unfollow them again if that makes sense

anybody that can play the Rosie riff (not just the A all the time) at anything like the right speed without using the open A string is a far better player than I am, open A is my favourite note -
snapped strings, flat batteries, are to be expected as are cable malfunctions, I always try and have a back up plan in my head to cover all eventualities (like the vocal through my bass amp if the PA packs up) best way I know to make sure it doesn't happen
