1. we play a couple of festivals like this, the headliners get paid but the minor 'make up the numbers' bands just get a free weekend out of it, depends on your attitude and the opinion of the rest of the band really, we enjoy the piss up and watching the other bands
2.
If you want a bass line where the player is unsure of the chords and hits repeatedly bum notes, have a listen to The Beatles' 'Long & Winding Road.'
never listened much to it, not a fan of this song, typical Macca tweeness, can't believe that's him on bass though, probably Harrison or Lennon (or perhaps Ringo, that would explain it ) deliberately trying to f*** it up cause they didn't like it either, surprised Macca didn't sort it out on 'naked'
3.
I saw my audiologist today for my annual check up. I mentioned about dropping the attenuation of my Elacin's from to 15 to 9db. I'm happy to report that he didn't throw up his hands in horror, in fact he showed little reaction at all. Maybe he doesn't care and hopes that I'll damage my hearing so I'll need to get a hearing aid sooner than later. However, I'm going to assume that he's a reasonably caring professional and that my plan isn't dumb. On the downside, my hearing has degraded from last year, more so on the left side
it's a tough call when your hearing is deteriorating, do you risk further loss by using a less blocking ear plug or do you put up with not hearing what's going off properly, as I said earlier I opted for less protection and my hearing hasn't got any worse over the last few years ,I do the online test regularly https://hearingtest.online/
4. I think you're going to have to take the back off, as well as ohms you need to know the wattage it can handle, you don't even know if it's a Bass or Guitar cab, someone else has asked the same question, he thinks it's a guitar cab I think http://www.tdpri.com/threads/what-fender-cab-is-this.290047/ The two jacks are probably in and out for another cab but with the back off you could tell from the wiring
5. horses for courses but there doesn't seem much difference between the B3 and B1on sound wise anyway but the later is cheaper http://basschat.co.uk/topic/267673-zoom-b3-vs-b1on/
6. I used to use a zoom 506II (still got it) but was worried about it's reliability so I've got a Zoom B1on does the same things as my old Zoom and loads more, it's on all of the time for very mild distortion and other settings for Stranglers and Motorhead sounds, you can get it for around £50
7.
Orange jumpsuits. I always thought they should be arrested and put in jail for some of the drivel they churned out.
should have been sent to Guantanamo Bay
8. everybody knows singers are exempt from buying any equipment, then they don't have to help with the setting up or taking down at a gig
9. I only ever change settings between songs so keep the pedal next to my amp, I too am not a fan of having cables across the stage
10.
As I keep saying, The band doesn't have an 'on line diary' It has a 'gigs' section on the website. This is for the public.
if your only list of gigs is the website and you forgot to put it on there it's not entirely the drummers fault I would say, but, I don't know what's gone of before
11.
I've been using ER15s for absolutely ages, but I am now noticing a deadening of the top end of my rig's sound when I wear them (which is always in a band situation). This may be down to my own top end loss being accentuated by the Elacins, either way I'm thing of changing the filters. What's the difference between the ERs and the PROs?
this my problem too, I've got hearing loss at around 6K Hz (not through playing in a band, work place damage and old age I think) which I wear hearing aids for, ACS moulded just cut out too much around this area leaving everything very muddy sounding, I do wear one, the ear next to the drummer, but use a 'Christmas tree' one in the other ear, seems to work for me
12. I think a lot of this depends on how many gigs the band does, if they're doing say 2 a month then fair enough the drummer should have let everyone know he wasn't available (this is where a band diary comes in, as well as letting everyone else know when gigs are on) but if the band doesn't do many gigs and doesn't get together very often I would say both parties are at fault. Having said that I don't know the people involved, some people are disorganised, to the point of exasperation, you're better off without them, I find people who are always late bloody annoying too
13. yeah once a weekend is about right for me, we did 3 in a weekend the other week, took me 3 days to get over it, but we do put a lot into it 2 hours of high energy punk, it's not just the playing though, the travelling and setting up and taking down all take there toll, would hate to stop enjoying it and it becomes just a job
14.
Will EZ drummer or Hydrogen work in stand-alone mode or do they need a DAW to operate in?
Hydrogen will, I make up a drum pattern save it as a wav file then load it into audacity to add tracks, not brilliant results but good enough for rough demos
15. I use Hydrogen it's free, I use a PC though, there's no preset patterns you do your own but it's quite good because it teaches you what a proper drummer actually does, if you don't already know, if you do it's easy
16.
I think I'm 64. Blue
I've often wondered what age people start happily giving their age as opposed to keeping it secret, must admit I thought it was older than 64, I certainly don't give my age away very easily
17.
I am pretty much alone. Retired, single & more than happy. Blue
I know what you mean
18.
This ^^, every time Quite the opposite; email is by far the best way to contact me. My 'phone..? I hardly know where it is, most weeks. Sometimes I charge it up, if I remember.

+1 Most people I know call the house phone. At least that'll get picked up by someone!
sound like you two are related to our guitarist
19. just posted this on another thread. we use a band google calendar everybody puts down when they're unavailable and forthcoming gigs are on there, I link it to my own google calendar, occasional cock ups occur but on the whole it works really well, but we still double confirm with everybody (email usually) before we commit to a gig
20. we use a band google calendar everybody puts down when they're unavailable and forthcoming gigs are on there, I link it to my own google calendar, occasional cock ups occur but on the whole it works really well, but we still double confirm with everybody (email usually) before we commit to a gig edit, there's a another thread going on this subject at the moment
21. what's wrong with old fashioned email? as uk lefty alluded too, be very careful what you put it's very easy to take it the wrong way, with no voice tone or facial expression involved
22. the diplomatic skills of Henry Kissinger are needed sometimes and everybody is different, me and the singer can have a blazing row and be fine with each other later, do the same with the guitarist and he'll threaten to quit the band, I have learnt that you shouldn't don't argue with emails/texts, make sure all the band are there when making contentious decisions and go with the consensus, and don't raise your voice, oh yeah, and pick your battles, give in sometimes
23. I've got a Rumble 500 watt, no fan and no heat either after a gig
24. if there was an ideal setting, amp manufacturers wouldn't fit EQ, I cut the bass under 100Hz and maybe boost slightly around 2.5K Hz, but also use the Bassdrive sim on the Zoom B1on, but it depends on a whole host of things, but I think a good rule of thumb is cut what you don't want instead of boosting what you do, if you want a trebler sound cut the bass frequencies and visa versa
