1. just posted this on another thread. we use a band google calendar everybody puts down when they're unavailable and forthcoming gigs are on there, I link it to my own google calendar, occasional cock ups occur but on the whole it works really well, but we still double confirm with everybody (email usually) before we commit to a gig

 3. what's wrong with old fashioned email? as uk lefty alluded too, be very careful what you put it's very easy to take it the wrong way, with no voice tone or facial expression involved
 4. the diplomatic skills of Henry Kissinger are needed sometimes and everybody is different, me and the singer can have a blazing row and be fine with each other later, do the same with the guitarist and he'll threaten to quit the band, I have learnt that you shouldn't don't argue with emails/texts, make sure all the band are there when making contentious decisions and go with the consensus, and don't raise your voice, oh yeah, and pick your battles, give in sometimes
 5. I've got a Rumble 500 watt, no fan and no heat either after a gig
 6. do class D amps need a fan?
 7. if there was an ideal setting, amp manufacturers wouldn't fit EQ, I cut the bass under 100Hz and maybe boost slightly around 2.5K Hz, but also use the Bassdrive sim on the Zoom B1on, but it depends on a whole host of things, but I think a good rule of thumb is cut what you don't want instead of boosting what you do, if you want a trebler sound cut the bass frequencies and visa versa
 8.
Cheers Paul. Funnily enough I already had that pencilled in on my calendar from a previous conversation.
9. btw, Verbal Warning have a proper gig at the White Horse, Derby on 15th October 5ish start
 10.
I had to do a double take. You did say Verbal Warning and acoustic in the same sentence didn't you? Don't worry. It will be great to see you any time you can make it.
yep lol, although I'm definitely not buying an acoustic bass for it
 11.
I'm fifty five now so venting is not a recommended practice for me in general but I agree in principle. The next jam is 3 to 7pm, Sunday 22nd October 2017.
sorry can't make that one, Verbal Warning have got an acoustic ?????????????? gig at Foremans in Nottingham, not sure how that's going to work out
 12.
I quite liked the Sex Pistols to be honest. Clash were ok. Wouldn't have bought any of their music but enjoyed the occasional song when i heard it. Did punk music not take over from rock music as the new cult craze back in 70's. Classic or Glam rock were very popular early 70's then Punk around 76 i think. Boy bands or your typical pop crap was always there and still there to this day as manicured drivel written and produced by others and managed by likes of Stock Aitken & Waterman in earlier days to Simon Cowells of the music business. They take a mediocre and sometimes talentless act and change them to look and sound better for the media. In some cases if they have the image they will be managed by them. Who needs the talent Dave
we do Pistols and Clash covers in our set, the Pistols stuff nearly always goes down best with the general public. The Clash songs that go well are London Calling and Should I stay, hardly punk and both used in adverts Getting back to the OP, overrated by who, the public, personnel opinion or the Media? most of the answers on here seem to be personnel opinion
 13.
*sigh* I suspect even Chuck wishes he had never released that particular gem, apart from the income it must have generated...
oh he's glad he released it, it made him a lot of money and his only number 1 in the US and UK, sad but true
 14.
"Black Is Black" - Los Bravos. There must be hundreds more but I'm enjoying this thread.
funnily enough this came up on my MP3 player the other morning (about 3am when I couldn't sleep) and I was thinking the song is really driven by a great relatively simple bass line. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TN_NieR8lc
 15.
my theory is a lot of bands/artists get overhyped if they die tragically or young.
that's because they've not had chance to go past their sell by date, who knows how Buddy Holly, Hendrix etc, would have turned out if they'd lived. Here's another one I just don't get Tom Jones
 16. nice one, found yourself a band then?
 17.
To try to argue that The Beatles are overrated is an utterly futile exercise; all the evidence - their sales, cultural impact, critical acclaim, respect from their peer over the years, etc, etc - is too compelling a case. Be that as it may, it doesn't mean you have to like their music.
not wanting to start another Beatles debate but I have to say he's right, bit like saying Elvis was overrated, didn't like a lot of his stuff but I'd never say he was overrated
 18. talking of the Who, Squeezebox, how the hell did/do they get with that one, did the BBC actually think it was about a musical instrument? they were probably the only ones that misunderstood those lyrics
 19.
I'm with PW on this...at least they were vaguely original and pushed at the boundaries.... (...and were very well received at "Folk under the Oak" in Hatfield Park earlier this year) BTW there's a town called "Whitwell" in Herts too...they don't have an annual music festival though.
this Whitwell is on the Notts/Derbys border with a Sheffield post code, has a music festival every year, not sure how they get away with it, the out door stage is in the middle of the village, having a Slade tribute blasting out Merry Christmas Everybody at 11.30pm on a September night must be really confusing for some
 20.
The levellers, wtf what load of sh*te they are or was , who cares
quite like the Levellers myself, there's an awful lot of bands trying to sound like them if last weekends Whitwell Festival is anything to go by
 21.
Yep, and Gelatinous Ropes Of Curious Yogurt Splashing On My Stomach is another one. I've never understood why people so commonly use that for their first dance. S.P.
oh yeah, Dancing with Myself is another
 22.
I have an experimental J-bass that I keep meddling with. It recently acquired a series parallel switch; with the two pickups in series it does sound quite precision-ish. Sort of solid and thumpy. The pickups are no longer loading each-other so you get a "sum of" pickups instead of a kind of "average of" that a standard J-bass has which changes the frequency spread. Takes a bit of a re-wire - but interesting results. It will never be exact because the P's pickup is in a place that the J doesn't have one (see below, which also shows why a PJ doesn't sound like a J either).
this ^ I've a Squier VM Jazz as a backup for my P and fitted a parallel/series push pull switch and I think it's pretty close in the series position
 23. there's a few songs about w***ing that people don't get, Teenage Kicks is another
 24.
band of gold - especially when played at a wedding
yeah I've always understood that one, I heard it played at a wedding too, sat there with a smug grin on my face
 25. I was listening to 5 live last night and they were on about misunderstood songs, they were talking about politicians using songs without actually understanding the lyrics, Ronald Regan used Springsteen's born in the USA without realising it's an anti American song. Another one I know is Rocking in the Free World, it was used a lot when the Berlin Wall came down but it's actually an anti western culture song. Anybody got any more?
