  1. Read my earlier posts, as with the fender deluxe, the problem with the bass terror is that the existing master volume doesn't give fine enough control at low volumes.
  2. Hmm solution would be the one my Brother had on his Fender Deluxe guitar amp. A little gadget with a supplementary volume control and two jack plugs that bridges the post-eq fx send and return.
  3. Opposite issue. You can go totally silent easily, the problem is that it is the area where the volume is low is very small. On the other hand my TE Elf wont turn down to zero at high gains, although it does do very quiet, which is arguably more useful.
  4. P.s. those are plates in the far corner, not speakers...
  5. Hope you approve of this @Bill Fitzmaurice 😎
  6. To answer in reverse order, I need to have the bass and gain set high enough to get a decent sound (valve preamp) to DI into the PA so turning it down isn't practical. This means I have to use the volume to control levels. For rehearsals, I have the amp set louder as I don't go through the PA. Basically combining a 500W rms amp with a 102dB cab is very loud, so the practical minimum volume isn't to quiet. I can't get it quiet enough for use at home without using the 10dB pad and rolling back the gain, which is not much help. On reflection, this pub was quite small and it didn't help we had parallel walls about 10 feet apart behind and in front of the left-hand PA speaker. I had a big resonance at A/Bb and that's pretty much exactly the wavelength fto fit between those walls. I think it was partly this resonance making the bass sound too loud. Personally, the right solution would have been for me to not use the PA, or at just to have used one channel of the PA as the left-hand set wasn't doing much. In fact the whole way we were set up was pretty awful but what does a humble bass player know of such things?
  7. Ho hum. There's a down side to a super efficient 2x12. Last gig I had the Bass Terror set at absolute minimum volume, plus di into the pa. I was asked but couldn't turn down any more. I have the dog's ⚽️⚽️ in the sound department but a less efficient cab would make life easier...
  8. On saturday I used my Joyo XVI as a straight sub-octaver as an alternative to using my fiver for one song. Worked really well.
  9. Found this blast from my past at the used record/cd store in Cardiff Indoor market on Friday.
  10. Steve Howe on slide guitar.
  11. This is how it turned out, darker and less contrast than I'd hoped. Pure tung oil probably wasn't the best choice; I hadn't understood how different it is from tru-oil. Also, I think I overdid the stain, I should have sanded it back more. The restoration wax (satin finish), I could have built it up even more, but it was starting to leave white residue in the holes.
  12. And... was this the first live appearance of the new BC t-shirt?
  13. Played the Exchange in Risca last night. Not a huge crowd but really enthusiastic. We started a Our time management was dire and combined with the extended load out for the pa, I didn't get home until 2am (included a stop for an M.C. Plant). We get excellent FOH sound and lights, but at the cost of complexity. Lots of positive feedback, but I was plagued by sound issues... I had the bass Terror set as low as posiible to stop overwhelming the PA, had a huge resonance on A/Bb and for some reason my Voodoo fuzz made me sound like an angry wasp. On the plus side played my first ever proper solo on fretless.
  14. That's because it's not Motorhead. It's Lemmy, Billy Gibbons and Dave Grohl.
  15. Rubbish! And Springsteen!
  16. AIEEE!!!
  17. I've never bothered by neck dive, on any bass... I fitted neodymium magnets to the Jazz pup. 👹
  18. So they've headhunted Bass Direct's web developer?
  19. A company I do work for retain a company to send eBay and the like takedown notices for copyright theft. No-one seems to get sued, despite being businesses. Claptin is very capable of being a **** as he gas clesrky demonstrated in the past.
  20. A simple wall hanger could just have a keyhole slot or v-notch for the neck strap button.
  21. The Jaguar Short Scale has been discontinued and replaced by Affinity and Vintage Modern versions with a 32" scale length. I can't help feeling that the Jag SS was a misstep by Fender, being far too good a bass for its price point; there can't be many Squier basses that fetch two to hree times their original asking price three years after purchase!
  22. Would this suit you?
  23. I suspect that their emails generate most of their custom. When you have a very specific audience and a distinct business offer, a slick website is less important than communicating with your customers.
  24. There are some genuinely confusing errors. One page describes a Fender bass, and continues into a description of a rather different Squier version of the same, with contradictory information. From the price I imagine they were selling the Squier but it was not at clear which or both are on offer. It is very confusing, I bought a speaker cover recently and the website information was all unhelpful. They are very helpful by email, but the website gives the impression of a business that doesn't need a website except to evidence its bona fides (like my business - I don't generate work from it it's just there to reassure customers it's genuine and provide extra information).
