  1. Sorry is this seems both a crazy OT swerve and sublimely ridiculous, given the status of CS&N. But that reminds me, in terms of its atmosphere, of this song by a rather less known duo, which I think knocks it out of the park. I'll get me coat...
  2. I would like some aftermarket corner protectors for the bottom.
  3. S'ok... didn't you notice the location? 🙂
  4. Once again kudos to @jebroad for a great event. Numbers were understandably down but I think we all had a great time. @Frank Blank bass by @Jabba_the_gut was, as you would expect lovely to behold and play. Nice examples from @Manton Customs too, the Jewelry Quarter bas was something a bit different and nicely playable. possibilty he will run some build your own bass courses! Plenty of lovely basses to behold and try, one common thread - almost every amp setup was 'compact'. No shortage of bottom end the days of the mega-stack are surely ending. Cake of course and an 'everyone's a winner' raffle and much tea and coffee. Thanks to all and everyone for organisation and the generosity to share such grest instruments. There were rsther more people than my photo suggests but as Frank said it felt airy znd uncrowded. You might notice Jez's basses neatly arranged in height order. I spent most of the day resisting the urge to swap the middle two over to start an ocd crisis.
  5. Do Q still make a point of Name-checking Bob Dylan in every issue?
  6. He and Stills were both making magic way back in Buffalo Springfield.
  7. 'Over 20% off' at Screwfix 😉 last time I was in - £17.
  8. You just need a heavy twin core cable with suitable sized spade connectors at each end. Find a local repair shop. Or solder it yourself, a cheap soldering iron will cost less than getting someone to do the job. Hot contact (tip) of jack to speaker + terminal is usual. Plenty of good soldering tutorials on line.
  9. It could well be that the bias voltage for the power transistors hasn't been changed and they may be running a high quiescent current. I had a similar issue with one of the pre-power stage transistors drifting out of spec with the result that the cones were displaced by the DC offset and the amp ran hot. If the transistors are hot but the heatsink is only warm, could be the thermal compound wasn't replaced when transistors were changed. All should be easy for a competent electronic repair shop to fix, or at least provide reassurance.
  10. Enough for 50 guitars at less than £4 https://www.toolstation.com/twinthread-countersunk-pozi-screw/p93430
  11. I got one as a backup, tested it at my last two rehearsals. It sounds good and is loud enough to be used as my main amp, but my Bass Terror has the edge sound-wise. Should confess I found the Elf 1x10 a bit bass-light when I tried one out with the Elf. But I did a/b it with a 15" Ampeg cab...
  12. The quality of many covers bands shows that plenty of 'ordinary people' can play 'hit tunes'.
  13. Over 30 years ago I bought along length of orange two-core 13A cable and made up a set of jack-to-jack speaker leads. Never any issues, although I have upgraded to heavy-duty metal bodies jacks (which I then realised could cause a short more easily, so I shrouded them with heat-shrink tubing). Not easy to confuse with guitar leads (as long as I don't buy orange ones). Bass Terror has speakon-only, new cab has Neutrik combined sockets. Speakon-speakon is fine (actually really good). Elf has jack socket, bought a Stagg speakon-jack cable at PMT and the jack is about 1.5mm short. It works but the first time I used it in anger it vibrated out of the socket, scaring the crap out of me - I relocated the amp to the floor. So new jack-speakon required, or maybe use one of my old, orange mains leads!
  14. Actually only one of these needed, but I have two Slazenger ones as well.
  15. Given his causes, it's ironic they didn't also display the Turkish flag at the end!
  16. When I tried out the cab at BD I used the GR800 with all the EQ dead flat, got a lovely range of tones from a USA Jazz. Also used it with sub bass up a bit just to 'prove' the bass handling.
  17. I wanted a backup, and had to settle for a Phil Jones C2 as it's just about the only thing that's smaller and lighter! Like a fule I ordered a red one and it's nearly three months' wait.
  18. Yes, someone ressurected it... but the question is stll interesting as another 12 years has changed the perspective and I think Westone/Matsumokos basses from the 80s are being more appreciated.
