Indeed. But it was reflecting on some of your thoughts that made me choose a 4R 2x12. I knew that two 2x12 8R cabs would be twice as powerful, but also that a single 8R 2x12 would be half as powerful (more or less). I had the sense to realise that if I was ever in the situation of needing two cabs then that would only be because there was a big pa which would make big backline redundant anyway. The extra headroom/power offered by 4R wasn't really needed (or so I thought) but in practice has opened the door to a greater choice of options as I can use lower power amps. I would also say speaker efficiency trumps everything. A quality speaker that has a good wide range response and is 8 to 10 dB more efficient will be louder and more flexible with more headroom than any practical increase in amp power. And probably mord reliable as you won't have to work it so hard.

Even worse? Wouldn't 250W go into the dummy load leaving a reduced 250W for the speaker!

A professional offered someone I know ssome mentoring. The main message was don't wait to 'hone your skills' or 'write better songs'. Get out there and do what you are good at now. The other advice I'd give from ehat I've seen of pros and ex pros - take it seriously, be lucky but be prepared to make your own luck. And get on with people.

Too noisy for home practice, fine anywhere else. For home I use a Joyo Badass now, which is silent.

I wouldn't recommend them for a pro studio, but as an affordable step up from headphones I am impressed by the sound but note no built in eq.

I'm inclined to go with that. It's a lovely player and when I did take it to a jam night, no-one mentioned its war wounds.

I'm leaning towards Sherwood green or aged Olympic White It's blockboard, mahogany core with a thin central layer and 3mm of more attractively grained wood as facings and no gaps I can see. More of a 'complex laminate'.

My hire van story... my brother's band was playing (in Scotland) for my other brother's partner's 60th. First Bro drove van full of gear up to Scotland. Rest of band flew into Edinburgh. Second bro hired a Sprinter minibus, set off with him to collect band and some other folks, on way beck we went to Coop in Dunblane for 'essentials'=huge quantity of alcohol. On return to minibus sliding door appeared warped and wouldn't shut, so I gave it a more enthusiastic shove. This time it shut and the glass cracked - not a sudden shatter but a progressive breaking into ever smaller shards over a couple of seconds. Looked very impressive! We patched it up with parcel tape and the next day the hire company agreed the door was at fault, swapped it for another (lesser but actually nicer to drive) minibus and all was fine. Ever since I treat sliding doors very carefully.

Our Christmas Eve gig is cancelled due to a very poorly guitarist/vocalist 😞
