  1. As I understand it tapewound have teh outer layer from nylon and are usually used on acoustic basses.
  2. Hmm... I've ordered a set of each. In still need to make up my mind. I've had an audition postponed ... if the 105's come in time I might fit them. I must admit, although I love stainless Rotos and Elites, the Fender nickels seem to keep a great tone for a very long time.
  3. With a 100 E string I can do a full tone bend from E up to A, but not with a 105. If I drop to the lighter strings, will I lose bottom end grunt?
  4. On my phone I could barely distinguish them but I chose the right way round as the Harley seemed a bit 'rumblier'. Is this odd given the Squier had more output - or what you'd expect given many of us like the sound of vintage pickups with lower output.
  5. **Warning - Josh content** Interesting to watch.
  6. An inch or two lower than when seated. Any other height and the buckle rash isn't in the middle of the body.
  7. Very pretty. Which of the photos reflects the colour most accurately? Edit: Note the period-correct CE sticker. Not something you'd find these days 😉
  8. Maggot Brain should be like that. But don't blame the bass...
  9. Question... my soundcloud is a warts and all trip through my musical 'career'. Is it wise to edit it if I want to get gigs?
  10. Sorry, Tony Levin just doesn't have the boobies.
  11. There are many imitators who can do Jimi note perfect. Which completely misses the point, he rarely played a phrase the same twice. And the sheer variety of voicings, vibratos he's getting there is astounding.
  12. Thanks for reminding me of this epic bassline (and sound).
  13. I bought my Hohner Jack V for £130 and I'd happily do a tone face-off against all comers 🙂
  14. Bugger me. I always wondered who and when invented the idea of a consistently repetitive underlying rhythm. Now I know.
  15. Sounds like he might as well get himself a Dingwall, then you can try it out and see if it fits or not.
  16. Of course, if you're worried about someone else's lips being all over the mic, it means you expect to get yours on it too... No one is innocent.
  17. And the entire nation of Canada. Well, perhaps not.
  18. What gear do the rest of the band have?
  19. I suggest you marry your band. Most people would be delighted to have a partner who insists they buy a £2.5K bass.
  20. https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_hot_rod_5_bass.htm?sid=a20760ee68faa618fe4b6c1459db7b3c And if they don't like you can afford to poke it up their bottoms.
  21. First a question... can you clarify which Status Quo bass player is meant? Or are they all better than everyone else? Second, it's well know that Rhino Edwards' choice of tone woods is above reproach.
  22. Amusing that sound engineers get exercised about people swapping mics, or even amplifiers. No-one raises an eyebrow if you swap guitars for basses, even active for passive... heaven help us I bet the sound engineers don't even care which tone wood you use 🙂
