  1. LOL! Very good and vocals reminded me of something I couldn't place for a bit... Haze! Obviously the accent! Now stop 🙂
  2. If he doesn't take the money, then the likes of Spotify and Apple Music get to keep it and better placed to exploit less successful artists who just want to make a living...
  3. Surely it depends on how he uses the money. Does he wait 10-20 years until he is dead and let some faceless board of trustees decide who profits, or get the money now? I can't help thinking that in his position and attitude he doesn't need any of it to sustain his lifestyle, and being American I wouldn't be remotely surprised if he uses a lot of it for philanthropy, and he probably thinks he'd rather crystallise the asset now so he can have more of a role in deciding how it gets used.
  4. This - basically any headless bass rather than something that looks like a 1950s radiogram... 🙂
  5. The character it gives vocals means many professional vocalists and producers prefer it over much more expensive mikes. At less than £100 they are priced more like a Squier of microphones than a Fender USA... The SM58 is competent or even good in most other roles if not exceptional, and tough, reliable and repairable, so it's a good choice as a general purpose mike that you can swap in and out without worry. That said, I won't argue that there are other mikes that are better for specific roles, like miking up acoustic instruments.
  6. Twice that. 🙂 You can place the bridge so that when the saddles are adjusted to be as close as possible to the neck, they are exactly on scale length. Bear in mind every saddle needs to be moved further away than the theoretical scale length to achieve intonation. Ideally the lightest string should need minimal adjustment from the full forward position, just leaving enough to allow for lighter gauges and variation between string types - this will max the adjustment available for heavier strings which seem to be more variable in their needs IME. My experience is on guitars where the intonation adjustment needed is quite small. Measuring of another bass is probably a 'good idea' to be on the safe side especially with a fiver where you will need to max the available adjustment.
  7. It's a great way to learn about getting a good finish (mine could be a bit better close up) and it gives you a genuinely nice bass at the end. I won't be getting rid of mine and I bet you keep yours too. It would be great for them to meet up at a bass bash! They might breed and we get a litter of Harley Bentlings.
  8. Actually the goat vomit looks closer to mine... cured!
  9. I went for daphne blue from northwest guitars. Here's some of my fumbling to give an idea of how it sounds (with fender flatwounds, I either lost or didn't get the original strings )
  10. Anyone other than me and @Teebs who has made one of the kits?
  11. I know a chap who took a couple of months off work to tour as drummer for Dressing for Pleasure* when they supported Adam Ant in 2011. He basically took it up a few months earlier and basically he played a single snare drum standing up - exact opposite of Adam's backing! Sadly he became surplus to requirements but he had some entertaining stories... fortunately I forget most of the details. *Definitely sex people...
  12. I made a DDS signal generator using an AVR (the chip in Arduinos). These digital oscilloscopes are brilliant too, and dead cheap:
  13. The Ant Music for Sex People logo was a constituent of my O-level art portfolio. I got an A 😎
  14. I love this! I've just ordered one as my brother's Christmas prezzie, although it probably won't arrive before January 🙂
  15. Hawkwind 50 Live, recorded at a packed out the Royal Albert Hall last year, with Phil Campbell guesting. Absolutely cooking... This is a fan video taken at the event:
  16. Better get some strings on it quick before it changes colour again... 🙂
  17. Wow that must have set you back several quid! The cost:performance ratio can't be bad 🙂
  18. I know he's a misanthrope but I didn't realise he had it in for cetaceans as well.
  19. I recall that in the aftermath of the October Hurricane at least one death and several injures were caused by inexperienced people trimming the tops of fallen trees, when they removed enough material the weight of the root balls then pulled the trees upright.
  20. I love the dynamics, when he's thrashing away, yet he manages to make the volume swell and fade gently. Glad I watched that.
  21. Chea Cheap and startlingly effective way to improve the sound from the Jag SS: http://www.stubmandrel.co.uk/14-music/170-cure-the-squier-jaguar-short-scale-s-wimpy-j-pickup
