  1. As you do...
  2. Soak in lemon juice for a few days. Or diluted molasses. Best of all, Jenolite which will leave steel blackened.
  3. That's my musical career scuppered...
  4. Fender ones are nickel (or nickel plated brass) and tarnished. The Limelight ones appear to be steel, which rusts solid.
  5. My brother had a Gibson with robot tuners. He strummed it and it literally unwound one of the strings so it fell off 🤣 He got it to do it again at home and videoed it, for some reason Gibson kept deleting the video off their facebook page... He converted it to manual.
  6. Thin weedy sound... This. During any solo other instruments should step back, not forwards.
  7. LOL - OK, poor choice of pics! A bit of digging and I see Billie Joe Armstrong was definitely a P90/humbucker guy! But almost all Kurt Cobain's guitars had single coils (mostly Jaguars). Matt Bellamy's signature Mansons have a humbucker but he sometimes uses a straight Strat. I'm not knocking P90s or humbuckers (I've got an Ibanez Artcore with a DiMarzio bridge and Gretsch neck pups and a Tokai SG with three humbuckers hanging above my monitor... even my tele has a DiMarzio stacked humbucker at the bridge) but the idea single coil pickups don't cut it is risible.
  8. I'm more worried that some people think the answer to "spare bass - do I really need one?" is no! Clearly you need lots, for all sorts of reasons, regardless of gigs.
  9. Hmmm... I've never been in a 3 piece, always had rhythm 7 lead or guitar +keyboard. If the sound goes thin and weedy when the guitarist starts a solo - it's their fault, they are probably using a Line 6 Spider, or just haven't put the effort into their sound. Here's a great example of utterly simple and repetitive bass supporting a very sparse solo, and it sounds good to me.
  10. Not usually to practice. Drummers never take spare skins and they break more often than bass strings... Gigs, always. I don't want the blame...
  11. I bet none of the other bass bashes will have such a unique thing on display.
  12. I think Shia LaBeouf is chiefly a danger to his own career these days...
  13. I wonder if the frets had some sort of coating the oil washed off. I have seen badly finished instruments with lacquered necks where a coat of lacquer has been left on the frets!
  14. CD? What's a CD? Didn't they go out with the wax cylinder? 🙂
  15. Can you explain? Did they discolour or move or something else?
  16. What has the EU ever given electronics? The SCART Plug, that's what.
  17. Me. I couldn't source a decent case to fit a Jag SS. I used a nylon dog blanket the dog had torn a hole in, but you could use a new one. <edit> I'm not joking. I don't think anyone produces material specifically for lining guitar cases, they just use a range of other materials, e.g. as used for soft toys. If you want the 'short fake fur' type of lining it is available off the roll but for the quantities needed for a guitar case a small throw or blanket is possibly the cheapest solution. It looks good (it was a candy apple red dog blanket) and works well (IMHO): The case is 12mm planed softwood strips and two sheets cut from 3mm MDF. If I was doing it again I would cover in proper Tolex-type vinyl, the one I chose is a lovely colour but easily scratched.
  18. Deserve their own genre, like Primus 🙂
  19. All good, but my definition of New Wave would exclude the Jam and Killing Joke. Just shows how vague 'new wave' was at the time and how much vaguer it is now!
  20. For the record the TGI Powerbox has 1 x 18V 2 x 12V 1A 1 x 9V 1A 5 x 9V 100mA So a bit more welly than some. Includes a five-way splitter cable as well as several single ones and a polarity reversing cable. And as the silken-voiced salesman pointed out - four international adaptors for my world tour...
  21. Interesting. If I was applying enough oil to change the dimensions of my fingerboard, then I would be concerned what was going on.
  22. Well at the risk of causing further upset, lets recap and see what we appear to be facts: Oiling your fretboard can make it look and feel more pleasant. Over oiling can cause problems by softening the fretboard. Oiling varnished fretboards can cause unpleasant streaking. Then some points which are matters of opinion, but less contentious: Sellers of fretboard oil emphasise the benefits of their products to help drive sales, which may encourage over-use. Significant damage is rare and moderate use of fretboard oil doesn't seem to cause problems. Custom fingerboard oil isn't significantly different in performance or effects, but smells more pleasant. My personal opinion: More instruments are ruined through over adjustment of truss rods and clumsy customisation; no-one is going to say 'stop adjusting your truss rod' or 'don't fit new pickups'.
  23. I saw the Hamsters once and 'Snail's Pace Slim' (Barry Martin) sprayed his guitar's neck with WD40 between every song.
