Yes... but...

When I was around 20 (early '80s ) there were three bands that virtually everyone I know would have said were the 'giants' of rock music - Zeppelin, Sabbath and Purple. OK bands like Metallica and Maiden and even <spit>Duff Leotard are the big guys now, but Zeppelin (who had imploded even by 1980) and Sabbath still retain 'legend' status. But Purple seem to have become a footnote. How and why?

Looks good to me. The hardest part is knowing when to stop... I've ordered a Harley Benton kit and that comes with a basically rectangular headstock. Not sure whether to do a classic 'fender' or put the 1987 spiky Fender headstock on it for a 'bass that never was'...

Ah! I've been to Harlows in the past, I thought they only did building timber. There's a place in Fradley too. I've ordered a cheap Harley Benton kit, might wait and do that first - finishing the timber will be my biggest challenge

My local shop (Burton upon Trent) has a reasonable selection. I'm well placed to visit Brum/Black Country, Derby, Nottingham. Also literally just a mile from Normans for cheap accessories which they sell over the counter. Some smaller shops in Lichfield, Swadlincote.

According to a local paper article that popped up on my phone, it's been bought by someone whose been in the music business 20 years and a musician for 30. Maybe over-optimistic but the suggestion is jobs saved and business aims to continue/grow.

The lyrics look like they've been plucked from a fairly narrow selection of AC/DC songs.

I've got a late 80s Korean Tele and apart from the neck, which is nice notwithstanding varnished over frets, it was pretty scrappy. My 2003 Indonesian Jazz is much better build quality.

I tend to take 2 or 3 basses and swap over anyway. Typically one fretted one fretless so I can get by with either. I only take one bass to rehearsal, I find playing the same stuff using different basses is good for all sorts of reasons.

As mentioned above I both appreciate slap and play a bit. Burt I think many people appreciate it without realising its a significantly different technique. I'm not meaning Level 42 fans. Come to think of it, I bet most non-players couldn't tell pick from fingers by listening to a record.

I think it's a bit of a stretch of the imagination to believe that most audiences even recognise slap bass when they hear it. We flatter ourselves with the importance we attach to this topic, the majority of listeners would think we are counting angels on pins.
