It took me a couple of months to find two bands. Apparently bass players are most in demand, guitar heroes are ten a penny - around here, anyway.

Bass goes down to E so you can play in F without having uneven sounding open strings 😉

I've been encouraged to jump in and comment on my Flea signature Jazz bass. As folks will know, they all look the same, being copies of the same bass... but they are a great way to get a 'played in' replica of an early sixties ('63) Jazz. I felt it was bit 'slick' looking and the dings and scratches were a bit predictable and repetitive. The chips, especially, all seemed to be in groups of three, the same shape. I couldn't do much about the dents, but I used a kitchen knife to chip off a bit more paint and make the wear look more random and natural. A grubby rag (used for cleaning up my lathe) dulled down the bright patches of wood that appeared. I also used a hot air gun (set fairly low) alternating with pipe freezing spray to check the nitrocellulose, front and back. This is a bit scary, but actually turns out to be fairly easy to do and controllable. The hot air makes the new cracks disappear, and at normal temperatures they are faint and less noticeable than when freshly done. I didn't get any flaking off. To subtly accentuate the checking I used the same grubby rag to apply dark oak woodstain and immediately wipe it off again. This also aged the paint a bit more as well. I like the result.

Here's a suggestion. Thinking of the psychology behind this, I was reluctant to cough for a service I didn't want or need, despite wanting to support Basschat. Would it be more appealing to sell 'Supporting Membership' that also unlocks free access to advertising a by product, rather than persuading those who wich to support to buy advertising they don't want? Obviously, the converse could apply, but then there's the option of buying a £7 advertising fun pack. Or you could have advertising with free membership and membership with free advertising, both the same product but two ads? ... In the end, I thought about the benefits of the site and the Bass Bashes and folded... I am weak. 🙂

But to be fair I usually have a manbun ponytail.

Sorry is this seems both a crazy OT swerve and sublimely ridiculous, given the status of CS&N. But that reminds me, in terms of its atmosphere, of this song by a rather less known duo, which I think knocks it out of the park. I'll get me coat...

Once again kudos to @jebroad for a great event. Numbers were understandably down but I think we all had a great time. @Frank Blank bass by @Jabba_the_gut was, as you would expect lovely to behold and play. Nice examples from @Manton Customs too, the Jewelry Quarter bas was something a bit different and nicely playable. possibilty he will run some build your own bass courses! Plenty of lovely basses to behold and try, one common thread - almost every amp setup was 'compact'. No shortage of bottom end the days of the mega-stack are surely ending. Cake of course and an 'everyone's a winner' raffle and much tea and coffee. Thanks to all and everyone for organisation and the generosity to share such grest instruments. There were rsther more people than my photo suggests but as Frank said it felt airy znd uncrowded. You might notice Jez's basses neatly arranged in height order. I spent most of the day resisting the urge to swap the middle two over to start an ocd crisis.

You just need a heavy twin core cable with suitable sized spade connectors at each end. Find a local repair shop. Or solder it yourself, a cheap soldering iron will cost less than getting someone to do the job. Hot contact (tip) of jack to speaker + terminal is usual. Plenty of good soldering tutorials on line.

It could well be that the bias voltage for the power transistors hasn't been changed and they may be running a high quiescent current. I had a similar issue with one of the pre-power stage transistors drifting out of spec with the result that the cones were displaced by the DC offset and the amp ran hot. If the transistors are hot but the heatsink is only warm, could be the thermal compound wasn't replaced when transistors were changed. All should be easy for a competent electronic repair shop to fix, or at least provide reassurance.
