  1. Let me correct that for you. I'm quite capable of organising my own itinerary, but if I go to a show I go expecting it to be worth a day of my time. This is likely if there are talks/workshops etc. Outside the M25 venue costs crash so even somewhere like Manchester or Birmingham would be cheap enough to drop the exhibitor fee, get more exhibitors and make a similar profit(or more). Although some 'premier' exhibitors may be less willing to travel. The choice ultimately becomes between small show in London where you need extra-curricular activities to make it worth going, versus a bigger, more diverse show outside London that might be able to keep you engaged all day. I have been involved with various exhibitions (not musical) over the last six years. They have all be hit hard by the internet meaning people go to look rather than buy. The ones that are succeeding outside London do so by maximising the display/lecture element AND attracting lots of smaller traders. London's advantage is a ready audience on the doorstep with minimal travel costs, but expensive and time consuming for anyone from further afield. London-based people are less likely to travel elsewhere (after all the rest of the UK is shite, isn't it?) but places like Bristol, Birmingham and Manchester have big catchments from the rest of the UK. Hmm ... might take a look at the Merseyside Guitar Show, haven't been to Liverpool for a few years.
  2. And me and Krist Novoselic...
  3. Perhaps a ramp is more of a 'training aid' for the 'ham-fingered'? >ducks<
  4. Pants... Hmmm... sponsorship opportunity for Tena Men?
  5. I just wish these things didn't have to take place in London.
  6. I was looking at a very nice red one today for a silly low price. Must admit I like the look of my Jag SS a bit more, plus it has P+J pickups, but these Squier short scale basses give you a lot of bass for your money.
  7. There are plenty of of ones for the 62 jazz bass re-issue taht have come up on reverb etc. over the years, but I can't find any current ones.
  8. It's a <hushed voice> modelling amp so it does lots of other sounds as well including Fender and Marshall to varying degrees of convincing, but dial in Fender Twin Reverb with a slow leslie speaker effect and valve overdrive and you get a good Rust-era Neil Young sound.
  9. My Performer has micro-tilt adjustment. I must admit I just backed it right off. Even so the action is lower than most guitars.
  10. What's really revealing about the interview, is at the end Morrison reveals he's been channelling @Teebs all along:
  11. Wow! that would be great. One will do - otherwise I might be tempted to 'fit and forget' 🙂 PM sent
  12. I'll be ridiculed for suggesting this... but if you want a 'bedroom blaster' with a rich selection of real valve sounds, I've got a Vox Valvetronix 25 (curiously it's 30W), which I think is great. My brother with his Marshall JCM, Fender Deville and Orange Terror valve amps takes the fosters - but for me it's loads of fun.
  13. Orange Tiny Terror sounds ace...
  14. Excellent! Now to find some suitable stainless shim. I'm assuming that being American they will be imperial so ~19mm=3/4" ~50mm=2" and ~9mm = 3/8".
  15. I've practiced with a bass player on drums who counted in 1 2 3 4 but then proceeded to play (correctly) in 3/4!
  16. It seems that these are as rare as Unicorn turds: If anyone out there has a set , could they post a few measurements or photos alongside a ruler, as I don't think they would be impossible to make.
  17. I tried using a vibrato pedal for Boulevarde of Broken Dreams; everyone impressed by the sound, but if the drummer drifted there wasn't a way to get it back in synch. I tried using a delay instead, re-triggering at each bar, but it faded too fast and didn't sound any better than playing staccato, which what I ended up doing.
  18. The D string on my performer is that close to the strings. It's a right PITA. I need to do a setup on it.
  19. Had to play Black Man Ray the other day, a total dirge if started too slow and so little bass you can't push it faster. Luckily we had a drummer who doesn't know the song but I primed him 'keep up the tempo' and we buzzed along 🙂
  20. Ah.... tapewound...
  21. Reading '83? Why didn't you say hello? 🙂
  22. Reissue Fender performer of course!
  23. Manual drawing board... retired architect? 🙂
  24. That's not a shim, it's an emergency roach.
  25. Beato is always interesting, I just wish he would either stop SHOUTING or at least mix his voice to be no louder than the music...
