  1. Just found this thread - gripping stuff!
  2. As mentioned above I both appreciate slap and play a bit. Burt I think many people appreciate it without realising its a significantly different technique. I'm not meaning Level 42 fans. Come to think of it, I bet most non-players couldn't tell pick from fingers by listening to a record.
  3. Stuck on this bit. I have no idea why, it's not the hardest rhythmically or fingering wise but it just won't go in! [Transition to solo] (1:34) G|-----7-----------------------| D|-------7-5---------5---------| A|-5-5-------7-5---7-----5-8-5-| E|---------------8-----8-------| G|-----------------------------| D|-----5-------7---7-5---------| A|---7-----5-8---5-----7-5-5-8-| E|-8-----8---------------------| G|-----------------------------| D|-------7-5---------5---------| A|-5-8-5-----7-5---7-----5-8-5-| E|---------------8-----8-------| G|-------------------------------| D|-----5-------7---7-5-----------| A|---7-----5-8---5-----7-5-5-8-5-| E|-8-----8-----------------------|
  4. I think it's a bit of a stretch of the imagination to believe that most audiences even recognise slap bass when they hear it. We flatter ourselves with the importance we attach to this topic, the majority of listeners would think we are counting angels on pins.
  5. Didn't realise the insane drummer is Carmine Appice!
  6. It'll never be as popular as the dong rest...
  7. Neither have i, but I have some small ash offcuts and they look similar.
  8. Main advantage being that you can beat the crap out of someone with it, confident in the knowledge you won't need to re-tune it afterwards.
  9. My mum was into Johnny Mathis. 'nuff said?
  10. Hardly! I think though that some folks have much wider tastes than others. There's very little music I actually dislike* although I know what I prefer. At the other extreme some people can only bear a tiny slice of music that meets their exacting standards, but as I grow older I find my tastes widening, not narrowing. *A duet by Johnny Mathis and Katy Perry might stretch my patience...
  11. Actually, this bass is so special it should go before the The Reviewing Committee on the Export of Works of Art and Objects of Cultural Interest.
  12. Scoundrel!
  13. @Ricky 4000 is to shy to do this for himself, and also in a state of some confusion caused by fainting goats and neatly folded towels. But he's invited me to share a picture of his Vig on this thread. I have no idea why.
  14. "Cheapest guitar in the house" - from what I could see it was a Cort.
  15. Looks like a plank to me. A wooden one. More seriously ash?
  16. Still learning Bouree. The differences are subtle, and a few bits require quite a developed technique to sound right.
  17. Low expectations! Hmm, Neil's one of my favourite artists, and I've always said if I didn't like rock I'd be into funk instead... I've been known to tap too (badly).
  18. That's actually a piece of music that develops, rather than just aimless noodling.
  19. So it's the American equivalent of 'Red Fiesta' or 'Eddie Stobart' 🙂
  20. Nice to see bass player and drummer so closely in synch.
  21. May I suggest just rounding it out a little more in teh yellow area, it looks too straight in your pic.
  22. This is the effect of just taking off about 3mm at the most. As @The Greek says you really only want to take off the minimum:
