  1. Let's just say it's a good thing they don't have any bass guitars at Guantanamo Bay.
  2. Cucumber... or foil wrapped zucchini?
  3. Dang, that's what I thought it was too!
  4. For me, Sound Chaser is the standout on Relayer. I hate the cover - horses and riders do NOT look like that when going down a steep gradient!
  5. You're not supposed to start the gig by headbutting the Chinese Gong.
  6. It wasn't like it is now back in the 90s. We (as unknowns) could play two sets of original material to a pub and everyone was happy - we even used to get invited back! Neil
  7. Bad News - Hey Mr Bassman, but with the pregnant pauses removed?
  8. JOn Anderson's problem is he only has one gear he uses regularly - 'whimsical'.
  9. I know what you mean - when I saw the video of me singing BVs I was going at the microphone like a chicken pecking seeds! Sounded useless. One song I was less confident I stayed well back from the mike, the soundman obviously turned me up and it sounded fine! Lesson learned...
  10. I guess it's very much down to the player. I generally keep my thumb muting the next string down, but where it goes when I play the E varies a LOT, depending on the bass I'm playing. Thinking about it, I'd say it's a major part of why each bass I have feels different. I can see more benefit in something fairly wide set parallel to the e-string than something under them.
  11. Yeah, but it's going to be dead boring if 26 John Entwhistle fans win 👿
  12. Police and Thieves?
  13. 🔔🔔🔔
  14. If it isn't cheating to go twice - Dave Pegg who is my bass-playing hero, adaptable to almost any musical context - folk of all stripes, jazz, rock, heavy rock, prog but always adding texture, harmony and interest - an absolute master of creating expression on the instrument. Plus he single-handedly changed the role of the bass in folk and folk rock music for ever. Look at this for an example of how his understated but melodic bassline delivers.
  15. OK, this one is really badly played, needs some practice! - I should be banned from attempting slap! But should be close enough for someone to guess it.
  16. I can't believe they put his image on a tank top.
  17. You could say that's the one endorsement every string manufacturer dreads... "guaranteed harmonic free"...
  18. Don't worry. People go to a festival to enjoy live music. Unlike a pub, you don't have to win them over, you just have to keep them engaged. I palyed two tiny festivals and they were the best. (Worst was a big club where several of my mates came - driving 100s of miles from afar - nothing went wrong but we were on a DJ stage 10 feet above the audience and we might as well have been in a different room).
  19. That's the biggest buzz.
  20. Black Knight 🤣 I was doodling that yesterday!
  21. I can understand the logic of something that you use as a support, like extra thumb rests, but I can't see why you would want to put something that gets in your way?
  22. LOL! I've just checked... I was playing part of the flute line...
  23. Hmm... looking up some tab it seems it may be a bit off... its suppose to be a bit from the middle of Bouree. In my defense this was from a deeply dredged up memory... lets say I've been knock out of kilter by the thought of bass ramps - something I did not know existed a few hours ago that I can't now unlearn! Time to let Jimothey have his go I think...
