It's definitely a 'burst look around 1:33. Cool as ****

The Beatles were all good musicians, but what they were really good at was songwriting, aided by a producer who had the skills to help them achieve their vision. For me, Harrison's guitar was the standout from the Beatles. But an uncomfortable truth that flies in the face of all the cliches about the Beatles' musicianship is that Ringo had a more profound effect on modern rock and pop drumming than any of the other three had in their fields.

If they come to the door with the pizza, and don't know when to come ion - you know they're a drummer 😉 Rather than falling out with him, tell him you all appreciate he's trying to keep it up for the sake of the band, but it's become obvious he's struggling to keep up the commitment and you don't think it's fair on him, so if he wants to walk after the May gig there won't be any hard feelings... Oh... you've tried that. How rhythmic is your wall-head-banging? Do you have drummer potential? I'll get my coat.

What is it? - Deathburger III now complete

The bridge will be quite close to the bottom of the body as my bits of table were a bit short, although it gives nice proportions (IMHO). Was thinking of doing it like a Tele, even so, with some 'pretty' brass ferrules, but worried the angle might push the bridge forwards. -

The Headstock got an Gibson-Style open-book makeover 🙂 I've sorted some tuners and finished and stained the body too. On the neck the stain has revealed a rather open grain with lots of white flecks on part of it. Might finish with Danish Oil or wax rather than varnish. I've ordered a cheap 4-pole pickup that looks really 'vintage'. I can't make more progress until I get it and can rout the body for it. If it's of interest I'm using Titebond Hide Glue - it's the ready to use bottled stuff not the stinky heat up stuff, so not quite as strong. I've repaired a violin and a tbel with it before now so I think it will be strong enough - I've contrived a tongue and groove joint of sorts too. -
You were in the doors? 🤪

Michael Jackson covers- Yes or No?
Stub Mandrel replied to redbandit599's topic in General Discussion
A lot of people have a huge emotional investment in someone like MJ. Think how hard it can be to accept a family member of close friend has done something really terrible. If you were a big fan of MJ our instinct is to deny it, as it is so at odds with your world view, surelky you coldn't have misjudged him. You can feel betrayed and even stained by the accusations, and if you are convinced it's effectively a process of grieving for the loss of the person you thought you knew. Equally if your views were more cynical with tales of pet chimps, nose jobs and dubious skin conditions you might feel the allegations fit with your idea of a weirdo. It might be hard to admit the guy might just have been weird and not malicious. This can make it very, very hard to view the situation objectively. In reality, of course, virtually none of use actually knew MJ and our views of him, positive or negative, were largely based on the media's portrayal of him and very few actual facts. My own view, post-Bashir, was that he was a very damaged individual who might, or might not, be as manipulative as his father. Whatever he did or didn't do, including is own childhood and personal demons, would not have stopped him from knowing it's wrong to take advantage of children. -
You know... I've never noticed that! 😖 But the point stands that heavier DBE strings usually have a reducing wrap at the bridge end unlike most (if not all?) standard strings.

Sorry I breathed. I'd foolishly been assuming there weren't any bad attitudes on this forum. Yes, it is sensible to reset the intonation when you fit new strings, but I would guess a large proportion of beginners don't. Not mandatory as there are instruments where you can't or it's a compromise (e.g. old style tele (paired strings) or the 'staggered' bridge on mandolin/banjo where I you only move it as a unit): I'll explain because you read what I wrote but I obviously didn't make it clear, double ball end strings are full wrap at one end and partial wrap (not exposed core) at the other. They have to be fitted the right way round because if the partial wrap is at the nut end the intonation between open and first fret is out, plus it would probably buzz like nobodies business. Anyone who has never put strings on a conventional bass probably doesn't know that. Fitted the right way round the intonation has to be adjusted to compensate for the effect/length of the reduced wrap as much as for any difference between sets of strings. Yes, I have built a few instruments (see below) and modded others. Making a little one at the moment. Does that count?

Out of curiosity, why didn't you go for this one?

Michael Jackson covers- Yes or No?

'Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen' by 'clean cut' Neil Sedaka is fairly close to the wire... And 'Young Girl' by Gary Puckett and the Union Gap probably crosses the line. -

I bought my brother a kit for Christmas, he's already got a couple of quantity Ukes and a bass. He works in pottery and some craft at one of the Camphill Schools, and now he's using decorating and building ukes as one of his activities. -

There is clearly evidence, although it is generally in the form of witness testimony, nothing was proven in a court of law -

I think that where the results of someone's behaviour were offence rather than injury and the person has shown honest regret rather than just a rote apology it's right to forgive. And it's right to take into account the context at the time. Oh tempora! Oh mores! -
I got a neck and pre-fretted fingerboard for a 23" Ukelele off the 'bay. Still needs a lot of fettling. Might go with a danish oil finish. The scale length is 17", and I've adapted it (not yet glued in) to suit a body made out of three chunks of inch-thick mahogany from an old table. I've got a piezo ukelele/mandolin bridge pickup but haven't quite decided what it is yet. Tempted to fit (at very low tension) bass strings, dampers and tune it CDGA like a cello. Maybe fit a coil pickup as well. Or silicone strings and bass tuning. Or with lighter strings it could be DGBE for a tenor 4-string guitar, or mandolin tuning GDAE. One thing it won't be is ukelele tuning because it hurts my brain.

How about the song in this advert from the 1980s? Bet I'm not the only person who fell off their chair ROTFLMAO the first time they saw this on TV... http://www.britsetarchive.com/adverts/m/makeroommushrooms.html Funky riff too, transcribed for Bass 🙂 G|--------------------------------------- D|-9---9-----------12---------------- A|---------12-10--------------------- E|--------------------------10\3------

Verily, a Prince amongst Fakers ...
Stub Mandrel replied to Happy Jack's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Because it isn't described as a Rickenbacker just as having the 'ric-o-sound' (presumably the sound of lawyers wringing their hands in anticipation and frantic writ-serving). I can't help feeling their policy is counter-productive. I don't see the abundance of 'strat-style' and 'p' or 'j' bases having any impact on the status of Fenders - if anything it makes the real thing even more aspirational (a) because the general look has become iconic for electric guitar and (b) and who doesn't get a copy and secretly hope to own the 'real thing' one day? They've also missed out by not having their own budget brand. -
It's worth mentioning Epiphone as well, but really in the context of guitars more than basses. Some of the higher end Epis are stunning, especially the Masterbilt Jazz guitars.

I wonder how much a relicked one costs 😈 -
From the opposite end I used to put a battery powered 1-watt Maplin guitar amp through my 1x12" Marshall cab, just to freak people out. A good way of proving that 10 times the power is only twice as loud, so 10W through a decent properly ported speaker sounds quite loud in a living room! I also had a mate who wired his quad hifi through a 10kW pa in his living room. With part of the lightshow. Obviously only ticking over but Dark Side of the moon sounded pretty good... sometimes I could hear it and I lived about 150 metres away.
