I took a photo on my phone at a gig and the band retweeted it 🙂 This thread is confusing the right to stop someone taking photos and the right of someone in a photo to control its use. Landowners can stop you taking photos, but they have to tell you not to - for example with a sign or terms and conditions. Local festival, no sign, no t&cs - Take your photos. You can stop someone using a photo if it breaches your privacy - same rules apply as any other 'public' place bearing in mind the law interprets privacy in this case according to how people are behaving not whether it's private land or not. Walking along a mall or in the crowd at a gig is 'public', in the changing room or as part of a small group doing an activity together isn't. Compare to performance rights: " Performances are considered "public" if they take place in a public place and the audience is outside of a normal circle of friends and family, including concerts, nightclubs, restaurants etc. " If you are standing on a stage in front of a large group of people, any right you have to control images can only be if they are taken without permission when there's a ban in place. That's my understanding of the law as it is now.

Really fun bass lines you're lovin' playing live!

Yeah - but four good ones! And there's the nice little run down. I had a vague memory of the drummer playing with a pair of fish on TOTP - I was delighted to discover it wasn't a "fake memory"! -
I recently got a Squier Vintage Modern Jaguar SS just for fun, but I'm rapidly falling for it.

Almost inspires me to fit this here Jazz ashtray to my Jaguar :-)

String spacing, neck depth/width/shape etc etc.

Interesting . My Performer is 16.4, 5-string is 14.5, lawsuit P-bass and Jaguar both 18. -
How much do you rely on open strings? You could try just dropping the tuning, play two frets higher and enjoy being able to do a bit of death metal on the side...

Always surprises me how many shops don't understand the best way to sell a guitar is to have it set up properly. It may seem expensive to do, but many shops have someone who happily works through the new guitars during the quiet periods. I was in a local shop and someone was re-stringing and setting up a real cheapie, I overheard the owner saying to them that it will get someone started without spending a lot - I like the attitude that it's worth setting up every guitar so even a raw beginner gets a decent start.

I agree, it amazes me how people complain abut strings being too close together for fingerstyle. Have they never fingerpicked on an acoustic guitar with a set of 13s on it? My Fender Performer is super narrow, but plays like a dream. Try playing mandolin 🙂 -
I've had to replace the input jack. I also fitted those nice red sliders to the EQ, look sooo much better than thi nasty little white blobs.

A shopping mall is 'private land' as well, but it still counts as a 'public place' as far as photography and privacy law is concerned unless a sign specifically prohibits photography. I didn't say they should be, however I was thinking about CCTV within private property*. There are people who want are CCTV banned. There is very clear guidance from the ICO, which is probably much less draconian than people think: https://ico.org.uk/your-data-matters/domestic-cctv-systems-guidance-for-people-using-cctv/ https://ico.org.uk/your-data-matters/domestic-cctv-systems-guidance-for-people-being-filmed/ *Burglars should not worry about internal CCTV, it is still legal to set a mantrap within your hose between sunset and sunrise to deter burglars in England.

I 'tweeted' them, but only on Saturday and no reply yet. I was hoping someone may have one handy as I had it apart at the weekend. May have to use the phone!

As showing a price is clearly stated to be a legal requirement at https://www.gov.uk/product-labelling-the-law surely some public-spirited customer of any shop following this practise should report them to their local Trading Standards? I did go into a shop before Christmas and asked to try an Ibanez 6-string (AS53, a 335 copy). I asked the price out of curiosity (it wasn't marked) and it was significantly cheaper than I expected for the build quality so I bought it. The shop owner was very surprised and spent some time looking for a price (all the other guitars had one). I was surprised but he went on his phone to find a price! Later I was having a coffee in Costa and looked up the reviews to see what a lemon I have been ripped off for... turned out the guitar gets almost universal 5-star reviews and the price I paid matched the cheapest I could find it on line. So I highly recommend RIver Music in Ross on Wye.

I've always wanted to cover Tom Hark 🙂 -
The burglar who says his human rights were breached because you caught him on CCTV... An interesting example of how people can be offended was featuring someone's forum (not this one) gallery picture (not of a person) in the magazine associated with the forum. Clearly covered by the forum T&Cs (which were expressly designed to cover this) but started a stink!

Sadly a rehearsal not live, but I have a tape of my first band doing Moni Moni. It was the one song he sang on. After a couple of verses I went round with a (simple) bass solo then he does an frantic drum solo, but instead of easing back into the groove he just tumbles over himself like someone whose jumped off a bus while its going to fast until the drums grind to a halt, he then cackles and manically shrieks "Wipeout!"

I once searched google for something totally unrelated to do with astronomy... and one result was a picture of me playing guitar. I suspoect it has soemthing to do with Google's personalised search algorithms rather than my status as an out of this world musician 🤣

One of my brothers is a southpaw and has leftie guitars and basses (and ukeleles!) Annoyingly he can cerainly play a RH bass competently just by flipping it, I can't do that with his lefties. We've exchanged a couple of bases and they bear the scars 🙂

That's exactly the sort of thing I was hoping to see!

Don't let it eat you. As long as they aren't trying to mis-represent who is appearing at the event, it's perfectly reasonable to use a random picture of the previous year. A festival is a 'public event' and unless there are explicit conditions/rules on who can take photos, the rights will be with the photographer. It's no different from using a picture of runners from last year's Great North Run to promote the 2019 event... Perhaps you should be flattered they found your band the most photogenic.

Somewhere, hidden in the depths of a mouldy gig-bag is one of your first set lists! Dig it out and share the embarrassment! I found a photo of a set list for a covers band I was in from 1987 - 89 (Drastic Action). It's an 'interesting' selection!

My stack 🙂 The amp is a Laney pro Bass (apparently as used by Krist Novoselick on Bleach). The cabs are unusual. I used to have a huge 1x18" that was like moving a washing machine around. My youngest brother gave me the Phoenix which is a PH-2 from British Strings Limited, it's loaded with a pair of 12" Celestions. The top cab I made myself using a pair of McKenzie 12" speakers from a mate. The tweeter cab is surprisingly effective and uses two high power horn tweeters from Maplin. Set up like this the feet of the top cab 'lock' in the handle of the bottom one. I don't know for sure if the head is 100W or 150W but it doesn't take any prisoners... Edit! This is my original rig - at my first gig, up on a chair. It's a Sound City, supposedly 30 or 50 watts. I turned it into a separate head and monitor wedge, but it got knicked. There's a guitar version that belongs top one of my brothers in my dad's loft.

Has anyone got a schematic or manual for a Laney Pro-Bass head? The switch to take out the graphic isn't working, I recall I used to get a nice sound just using the parametric EQ and pre-shape. I've tried reflowing the solder joints and the path to before the EQ seems to be OK so I need a schematic to trace the signal back but i can't find one on the web. Mine is the early version before they produced it in several different power ratings. The power rating isn't marked on it but from the way it sounds and the transformer fills all the space available I guess it is a 150W version. Here it is in 'practice amp' configuration with a 63W 16R Marshall 'mini-cab' (not ideal for a 5-string!) TIA 🙂
