  1. Our drummer evaporated after last week's rehearsal due to back issues. We have a new one on board for the originals as of last night. A bit more oomph but not too loud. Interestingly we started with a song that has an awkward stop with a five-beat bar. This used to cause the previous drummer to slow down, the new chap was rushing it. I took my Epiphone Embassy, I think I've found the right bass for this band. It has a growly sound but the blend and tone controls are effective. Not loud last night but even the singer described my sound as having 'girth'. Working on originals is fascinating. I had two competing basslines for the next song, the one originally on fretless is now the chorus. The chords don't change but what we all play changes. my line is a harmony line up an octave and not following the roots. I've also come up with a really unusual intro. We finished with a third song that demands a JJ Burnell style plectrum line, with some jagged rhythm and lots of clanky growl. Working on this one is improving my plectrum skills. Very different from sitting alone learning songs then just getting together to polish arrangements.
  2. Or go to consumer protection.
  3. If I was in that position I'd buy the Squier CV going for £250 s/h on here... It is literally a swap of a logo for other features. If you don't want active and are happy with a basic selection of colours, the playability is likely to be indistinguishable.
  4. French numbers! 😁
  5. No, it isn't the same. Fixed mutes don't kill the harmonics in the same way. You can aldo combine finger/palm muting with fixed mutes and get a really wide range of sounds.
  6. Bridge mutes can sound awesome for the right song.
  7. Now got a Galaxy Rab9+ and I'm at the 'realising how bad my old tablet is' stage... Perhaps it's only good for a photo frame, although I'm trying a few of these apps
  8. I look forward to attaching the covers to my AVII Precision. I dream of creating the u-shaped scar on the delicate nitro finish.
  9. Bill Haley and the Vomets. Alice Pooper. Bog Brother and the Holding Company. Pong.
  10. You need help...
  11. I use a very old and very mellow Ibanez chorus for occasional use only. The sort of songs it excels on have bassline with slow, melodic sections - What is and what should never be is an example, it makes the long, slow slides shimmer.
  12. I have a Behringer PA amp. Very happy with it and slightly intimidated by all it's bi-amping and bridging possibilities. Fortunately I just need a basic stereo amp.
  13. Usually It's calendar issues, or venues changing hands
  14. I want to catch them while I can. My brother has been going to their concerts since the early 80s.
  15. Now fitted to my Jack V Custom. Doesn't look as nice but a game changer for ease of tuning. I will see if there's potential for making it less visible.
  16. There are a lot of people who are dogmatic about how to read and understand music. Tab doesn't require an understanding of harmonic theory and I think that makes trained musicians tend to look down on it. However, it is straightforward for learning pieces and can be used at any level of complexity. I have to work with what I understand, it makes understanding theory slower but not impossible.
  17. It was grim, I had a nasty bout of vertigo while setting up and a few wobbles while playing. I gad no idea the whole world would start warping and whirling round an hour after the gig!
