  1. My Orange gives me this too. But for 'classic rock' I'm looking for something more elusive.
  2. When I get a breathing space I'm going to book a few solo hours at a rehearsal studio.
  3. I do! Perhaps because my 'signature' sound is fairly dark and basically almost flat eq with slight bass and treble lift, I find it hard to get that rich, clanky but deep funk sound. Yesterday I tried out a wah pedal (rapidly realised that once I'd done NIB there isn't much left...) Amp was z small Vox combo and I got 'that' sound, once I had figured out that I could get the active bass flat by setting all the controls to the middle detent. Didn't think to look at the amp settings. Accidentally bought the bass but can't get the same sound though Joyo BadASS and PJB C2. A bit closer thyough my brother's Elf and Ampeg PF 1x15. How do YOU brew different sounds and what do you struggle with. Have you ever found a reliable guide to getting various sounds/tones?

  5. I have three fivers, but I've never played a 6, 7 or 8. Or fan frets. Popped my Sire cherry yesterday, impressed. Only criticism z the tuners seem a bit cheap for a bass well north of 1k new.
  6. Whoops... I'm out. After telling three of my nearest and dearest that I'm going to a music shop but I definitely won't buy a bass. But how could I pass on this. Marcus Miller P10. Second hand but as new. £499. Completely different from all my other basses.
  7. Two in a couple of weeks.
  8. Great basses. I have had a B2 since the late '80s and have a Jack V as well. P.S. Mumbles?
  9. Ours does, in fact we often syncronise rhythms for fun, no planning it happened organically I thought that was what drummers and bass players were meant to do? Either synch up or play complementary patterns. I usually play off the kick or the snare, depending on the song.
  10. True story... 'knowing' the fretboard real does your head in if you swap vack and forth with a five string.
  11. American prices don't include local and state-dependent sales tax, of 0-12%
  12. I've just ordered a copy of 'music theory for dummies'.
  13. I enjoy reading about musical theory. 🎼 I tend to find things that explain why a particular approach works rather than the other way around.
  14. Indeed, it feels smaller than a p-bass. I think it's all down to the headstock styles. They have they 'Epiphone Probuckers' in common. Excellent pickups.
  15. The 'content I follow' list is presently listing all activity on the threads I follow, not just the latest post. Tried multiple refreshes.
  16. I nearly went for the Epiphone Thunderbird, but my Embassy has the same pickups.
  17. Not all blues musicians are equal, I have the privilege of playing with a very talented (and knowledgable) guitarist skilled way beyond his age. This is true of all genres of music.
  18. Do it in stages: Learn the four strings: E A D G Learn the notes on the E string (register the pairs and these gaps): EF G A BC D E Now easy to navigate the A string (just the E string shifted up five frets): A BC D EF G A Now realise the D and G strings are just the E and A moved up two frets: D EF G A BC D and G A BC D EF G If you need a sharp or flat, it's never more than one fret up or down from one of those above.
  19. I could bring my Thunder 1, but it sounds more like a Precision than any precision...
  20. For once I entirely agree with @TimR - is it a Blue Moon?
  21. I think many (most?) of us want to play music rather than earn money - I just want to cover the costs of rehearsals, travel and a great collection of gear... There are different audiences and different genres of music. I play in two bands, both playing genres of music I like, and except for two crowd pleasers (Dakota and Sex on Fire) all the songs are enjoyed by all the members of the respective bands. The BL of the blues band is also in a fairly successful and rising indie band - he says 'I don't really listen to that sort of music' and prefers playing the blues. My first priority is to enjoy the music we play, I'm not very fussy to be honest (because I enjoy learning unfamiliar material), but both bands I'm in focus on stuff I really like. We have no shortage of audiences or gigs...
  22. I've had a thought... @scrumpymike - everything he owns unless he sells it between now and then @Rich - Shuker 5-string, something else (will toss a coin on the day), Genz Benz Shuttle 9.2, Barefaced Super 12T cab. @Kateplaysbass - Ashdown CTM-100 and LB212, Pawn Shop Mustang, medium scale ACG Finn, and maybe also ACG Recurve and Bass Collection 5 string fretless, since I'm thinking about offloading both of those @Woodinblack - Bongo, just to wind people up @Richard R - Brawley 5 string, as usual, HB 5 String thing with Roland hex pickup and V-bass COSM synth. @BreadBin - something interesting @chyc - a very nice double bass, an Ashbory Bass, GSS 06B400MKD combo, and possibly Warwick Streamer fretless, Sandberg Custom 5 with Delano XTender, Sandberg TT Marcus Miller rip-off, BC 110T cabinet, BC 112mk3 cabinet, Acoustic Image Coda @TRBboy - Frost Custom Basses PJ5 (my first build from scratch), Sandberg California TT5 Passive, possibly my customised Yamaha BBN5, Markbass Stu Amp 1000w, GR Bass GR 410+ (1200w, 4 ohm), a fairly unexciting pedal board 😅, & converted Trace 1x15" cab, if it's in a satisfactory state by then @Stub Mandrel - Joyo BadASS & PJB C2, American Vintage II 1960 Precision & Squier 40th Anniversary Precision for side by side comparison. LFSys Monza Cabinet, Zoom B2Four.
  23. On a related subject... basses that underwhelmed me (note, I may have tried duff examples, or you may have different preferences, so if one of these is yours, and you love it, please don't get upset}. Gibson EB3 Fender Aerodyne Jazz Fender Active Jazz Warwick Thumb (most unpleasant neck I ever held, the laminations had shrunk unevenly). Hofner Contemporary Violin Bass
