  1. Well done, if you can do one gig, the next will be easier.
  2. Glad you got into hospital, that can turn nasty if not caught quickly. Now get well!
  3. Yesterday's gig was a last minute booking. Rhythm guitarist couldn't make it due to dog illness... but dog turned out to be ok so managed to make it. Lovely old pub but in a small marquee outside, and a yellow weather warning. The warning was lifted and we set up to a healthy number of people. Numbers drifted up and down but it was a good gig. In our break and afterwards we could hear another band playing behind the pub opposite. Had a real 'festival' feel with people wandering between the venues and good vibes. We haven't gigged for a bit and were a touch scrappy but the punters didn't notice. Anyway, rehearsal on Tuesday as we have more gigs approaching. I had a bit of fun with effects, second encore was Superstition so I used the Joyo XVI with a bit of modulation to get a crazy synth sound. This was the tail end of the first set. I have no idea why audiences love this song, it's just three chords, repeated....
  4. Hope Medicare can help.
  5. If you have to do a big jump up the neck dot's help a lot. I mostly use them when changing position, just like on a fretted bass.
  6. It's appalling as ever so unless it's a Black Monks tribute...
  7. Bring the 3d printed bass!
  8. I'd probably pay £80 for the excuse to learn a load of new songs and gig them with new people!
  9. Hope this doesn't count a hijack but a comment above made me think perhaps someone can help identify what makes my favourite fuzz-bass sound:
  10. Nice. Never Say Die vibes.
  11. Do they want carved top or plywood double basses? I hope they want open notes...
  12. I guess so... my knowledge is limited, but I'm assuming the Fender app does what I've seen Garageband do. I'd like to find something less mind blowing than Reaper.
  13. Ditch the Barefaced and get a 40 year old Sound City 18" cab.
  14. Not really. The issue is that Trace power ratings are honest continuous RMS ratings so what a 250W Trace is rated at would be described as 1000W by less scrupulous manufacturers. Bear in mind 2,500W is only twice as loud as 500W, other things being equal.
  15. TBH I take what I feel like to gigs, a combination of what suits the music, what deserves an outing, if the venue is a bit rough and how I feel.
  16. I fitted neodymium magnets to my Squier Jaguar which balanced the p and j nicely (they were very poor before). I made a PJ (precision) bitsa with Wilkinson pickups and they balance quite well, as does my Sire P10 which is active. Vintage style pickups really don't seem to like the PJ configuration.
  17. Cunning Tip. Use paper to get the ideal slot height. Carefully remove string and ensure paper is well bedded down. Use a cocktail stick to apply superglue and make the paper permanent. Cellulose fibres are ideal reinforcement. Trim ends as needed with a sharp blade.
  18. A good, level fingerboard is important, you can't compensate for a small high spot by scraping down a fret. If it has side dots, be sure they are where you want them. On some (mostly defretted) basses they are between fret positions. I learned on a bass with dots at the fret positions and trying to play with the other style is tough as they 'draw' my fingers away from proper intonation.
