  1. I have realised buying basses is just a justification for going to shops to try out lots of nice instruments and gear. How can I do that and not buy...
  2. I keep a strap, lead and tuner in the case with all my main basses, so I can grab one, a head and a cab and know I gave all the essentials.
  3. Maybe... adding some Muse at the moment!
  4. My bandmate's other band played my SO's birthday on Saturday. They offered to do it for a silly fee, a fairer but still reduced fee was agreed. They got a bit more than they expected on the night, and all were happy.
  5. Pressure & Time, lots of fun little fills for me.
  6. Tap water is free as a courtesy. You can't have collective punishment... The seagull swoops when she sees someone leaving.
  7. I you get a free night's entertainment week after week, you could at least ocassionally find something to buy. The person is teetotal, but could buy a mineral water, slimline drinks or just a packet of crisps. Literally NEVER put a penny behind the bar.
  8. I'm very involved with a club that puts ona lot of live music. Some bands pull in enough people to make the night pay, some don't. There are some popular bands who will give a modest discount to make sure the night pays - in return we put a bucket round and this typically makes up the difference. What irks most are regular punters who only buy tap water (not even a soft drink) and one (known as the seagull) who subsists only by swooping down on abandoned drinks...
  9. Music is a passion and a hobby for me. How many things are there that you can do that bring immediate pleasure to a large group of people? Seeing an audience really enjoy a gig is my main reward. Payment us about covering the expenses to be able to have those experiences.
  10. If people find out about the undersubscribed items and they buy 10% of tickets for relatively unpopular items they get a better win ratio and the seller reduces their losses.
  11. I won't be reporting on Saturday's gig as when the bandmember who booked it contacted them today they said they had no record of it. He shared the conversation with them but only got a vague apology 😞 At least we didn't turn up...
  12. Don't confuse turnover with value.
  13. I will.... I've seen all the tours since 2018 plus a couple of special gigs! 😁
  14. Ebay special. A few years ago.
  15. However, even done ironically, your cred will be shot to pieces forever...
  16. Apparently Dave Pegg (Jethro Tull, Fairport Convention) preferred the sound of wooden Hohner and Riverhead headless basses over plastic Steinbergers.
  17. LOL I asked Google and Genesis wrote that for me 🙂
  18. Check out the Alice Cooper arrangement, much more fun with a key change that drives it forwards 🙂
  19. QSC Touchmix 16. https://www.qscaudio.com/products-solutions/mixers/touchmix-series-compact-digital-mixers/touchmix-16/
  20. Indeed, but that applies with any setup...
  21. Yes, but it still gives a good starting point. Our vocalist operates the desk from a tablet and fine tunes it wandering around the venue.
  22. Possibly pink, sounds more like roaring waves than static hiss.
  23. The desk sends white noise to each and then both sides of the PA with a special high quality microphone positioned in the 'audience'. It works out the frequency response of the pa + room and any resonances automatically eqs them out. That means you can use the same settings in different venues, even using their pa, and get pretty much the same sound. Obviously tweaks may be needed and in venues where guitars and bass are backline only we need to do our own adjustments (for example on Saturday I was near a corner and had to cut my bass control, which I normally have slightly boosted).
  24. I can carry bass and cab in one hand each and amp over my shoulder for about 25kg all in! Of course most gigs need more gear but it's handy to be able to do that. Bugbear is PA, so I recently got an excellent folding trolley/sack truck from Screwfix for £76. But mine isn't needed very often as the singer usually has use of a better set of powered tops and has a better desk. We often use house pa as the desk can setup using white noise and a reference mic which is amazingly consistent. Lights... I have a lightweight setup that's optional. Thing is, I would really like to gig my Trace Elliot combo but that's well over 45kg... but at least it has wheels.
