  1. Welcome back to the bass 🙂
  2. Harvey Vinson. I have absolutely no idea how I remembered that from a VERY long time ago! https://www.awesomebooks.com/book/9780860019244/bass-guitar-bgtr-bookcd-teach-yourself/used?gclid=CjwKCAiAqaWdBhAvEiwAGAQltmMnCmsjVNNA8NeoFd6Ot5LlGIbGh9LvQZBsf8wb31oD_qGoV9lDwBoCoYwQAvD_BwE
  3. I won't put my thumb up a dog's fundament, and I won't put my thumb up a Tim R's hole either
  4. To return to the original question. My answer is - not up a dog's fundament.
  5. In my dreams 🤣 Performer turned a few heads, if not ears though 🤣🤣
  6. I'm inclined to go with that. It's a lovely player and when I did take it to a jam night, no-one mentioned its war wounds.
  7. I'm leaning towards Sherwood green or aged Olympic White It's blockboard, mahogany core with a thin central layer and 3mm of more attractively grained wood as facings and no gaps I can see. More of a 'complex laminate'.
  8. My hire van story... my brother's band was playing (in Scotland) for my other brother's partner's 60th. First Bro drove van full of gear up to Scotland. Rest of band flew into Edinburgh. Second bro hired a Sprinter minibus, set off with him to collect band and some other folks, on way beck we went to Coop in Dunblane for 'essentials'=huge quantity of alcohol. On return to minibus sliding door appeared warped and wouldn't shut, so I gave it a more enthusiastic shove. This time it shut and the glass cracked - not a sudden shatter but a progressive breaking into ever smaller shards over a couple of seconds. Looked very impressive! We patched it up with parcel tape and the next day the hire company agreed the door was at fault, swapped it for another (lesser but actually nicer to drive) minibus and all was fine. Ever since I treat sliding doors very carefully.
  9. Our Christmas Eve gig is cancelled due to a very poorly guitarist/vocalist 😞
  10. Like the target for cleaning up our rivers it's been pushed back to 2064.
  11. Decided not to shy away from the Chrimbo vibe and sold our souls to blatant commercialism! 🙂 "Get ready to rock Your Blues Away this Christmas at the Windsor in Penarth. Bluesfire Blues Band will be playing a red-hot mix of Blues Rock and Christmas favourites with our own twist this Christmas Eve."
  12. I think you might reflect on why your position has created such a reaction. In essence you are stating that a fret hand thumb anywhere other than on the back of the neck is a signifier of poor technique and a lack of skill. Yet many people accepted as among the most skilled do this. Most move their thumb location according to what they are playing, which among other things, reduces fatigue and strain. Your view, or at least how you present it, comes across as elitism at best and petty one-upmanship at worst. Of course, given your avoidance of directly countering the more considered objections to your position, it is more than likely you are trolling and laughing you head off at the fluster you have caused. But thank you for getting us to consider what we do and why. Now I'm off to put my thumb where it belongs (is that on the end of my nose or up my bum, you ask...)
  13. Bad boy Jaco. We knew you had crap technique all along... And Victor! Go to the back of the class! So glad there are better bass players out there than these guys...
  14. Err... I think that was my point, Steve; the idea that all punks were musical imbeciles was nonsense - but readily embraced by those looking to reinforce their prejudices.
  15. The only real con the punks pulled off was convincing people that none of them could play their instruments or know anything about music.
  16. I took one look at the photo and read that as "it was only 9 - 9.5st".
  17. I seem to have been lucky with mine, although one of the ones that came with my HB kit bass needed a tweak. I replaced them with Wilkinsons which are really nice... then ended up replacing everything except the neck, so I got a Squier neck and ended up with a bitsa of quality parts plus a HB neck and an HB with a squier neck... 🤣 FWIW been playing the MB-5 through the Joyo and my PJB C2. Sounded nice, balanced but mellow. Wanted top practice singing and playing so swapped to a 4-string - randomly chose my passive Westone Thunder 1. Massively louder with loads of growl... I hope the Warman pickup mode brings that kind of improvement! Have ordered a 4-way 3-pole switch so will wait for that, plan is to wire it: Coil 1 : series : parallel : coil 2 But have to think about how to connect it up!
  18. I was playing ming through my Joyo badass and at212s, no shortage of low end. But now got the Warman ready to fit.
  19. Saw Band of Friends last week. Bass player Gerry McAvoy is one of my heroes and probably the biggest influence on my blues-rock playing style. He was listing places he'd played in Wales with Rory Gallagher and I shouted out that I saw them in Aberystwyth on my 19th birthday. Then this happened!
