  1. I gave away a bass once. To my brother. He loaned/gave it to a friend, which pained me, but they gave it back to him when they left the uk. He hasn't picked up on my hints yet. Even thought of buying an identical one and offering a swap...
  2. Generally floating thumb, i.e. muting if not playing the E. But... because I learnt to fingerpick guitar before starting bass I sometimes use thumb and fingers to pick across the strings.
  3. Cripes that's a good deal, good job I didn't see it 42 minutes ago!
  4. 120dB should keep up with a loud drumkit.
  5. Trird a selection at rehearsal last night, agreed for Christmas eve: Slade Shakey Motorhead Chris de Burgh The Greedies Auld Lang Syne
  6. I got 87dBa at 40hz. A calculator says that's 121.5dB. The at212 is 109dB/W That would be about 11W. Trouble is 50W would oy be about 125dB, so the margins for error are quite big. I would say loud enough to gig.
  7. Just tried my 50W Joyo BadAss through my AT212 Slim (4 ohm). 93 dB at a metre, without noticeable distortion. A weighted.
  8. I always knew morris dancing was a particularly dangerous martial art.
  9. Oh dear Christmas mission creep. Driving home for Christmas and Merry Christmas Everyone added to our list (fortunately not the most demanding basslines...) Then what do I do? I whatsapp the BL suggesting Step Into Christmas... I suppose a cheeseboard is traditional at Christmas!
  10. It's very dangerous to go into a music shop and try out 'budget' instruments because sometimes you find one that just presses all the right buttons. And when they are relatively cheap it's hard to say no...
  11. Someone in Ukraine has loads of weird eastern European basses on ebay right now.
  12. Played a private party. Singer created some novel song arrangements. Did more bvs than usual, discovered I can play merry Christmas everybody and sing it, (at the same time) which is s major personal achievement!
  13. Somewhere in Moldova... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185581063977?hash=item2b357e4f29:g:zwIAAOSw2ZRjItvl&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAoOsRmFOGvYKb2AyIsLUzC3irnrQcwcMB4XzkkiinoRZDzS%2Fff8yprIolHLs8p2FK%2BR4e9O3xdyVai1hSUdSaKcLZPKpcw0cvddAoLMcUYd%2Fu50zUGySId3FAFRQtowk3x9vLCuJ%2BtAd9A5NqhwDtdpM71pWkVzDLIpKL%2Fqxm15KqKq9UiJ%2BUBbGdVdjGIyqd8jgiXRPgdHYn1mJIh5sYj%2F0%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR871nKOgYQ
  14. They are nice and I enjoy playing them which encourages me to play more which is good for me in many ways. Fundamentally they bring me pleasure.
  15. Thomann tweed case, because you're worth it 😍
  16. For the blues rock band we are going to do Merry Christmas Everybody because although it's not bluesy it's musically interesting and it fits our sound. We're also going to do Canned Heat's Christmas Blues which feels up-tempo even though it's a bit of a plod and plenty of room top extemporise : Covers band it's Slade (nice, two birds etc.) and oddly they have chosen to add Wake me Up by Avicii which has apparently been described as a 'summer anthem'. A bit like September, although that's probably the ultimate 'more than the sum of its parts' song!
  17. After relearning Merry Christmas Everybody, heard Cûm On Feel the Noize on the radio. Jim Lea's bass sound is wonderful and despite just being a fairly simple line his immaculate phrasing and feel just makes it roll along and feel really melodic. He really is oustanding. Just one word of advice... take care typing "cûm on feel the" into Google...
  18. Punter photo from Saturday 🙂 we does like throwing a pose we does 😁
