Played Cardiff Bootlegger last night. Really difficult access, then parking in the world's most cramped multi-storey car park. Load in long and many stairs. Then afterwards load out complicated by huge numbers of (good natured) revellers on the pedestrianised street and a packed dance floor as the disco took over. Staff were great, free drinks too. Audience was enthusiastic but modest for first set, filled up for second set, definitely into our sort of music which was good. We even had people who came because they saw us on YouTube 🙂 Oddly though I felt a bit meh, perhaps because the odd layout put me ahead of the PA. First time I've felt the audience enjoyed the gig more than me.

Pair of Semi Hollow 4 strings - Fretted and Fretless
Stub Mandrel replied to Jabba_the_gut's topic in Build Diaries
Yes, PM'ing Jabba to as 'Is it finished yet?' seventeen times a day for the last six months may be considered a tad excessive. -
That's me and Ms. Stubz at bottom right 😎

I tried the 2x8 and found it very light on the bottom end.

Before, I was nervous that I would be disappointed. I did not expect it to be do good.

Still to try it out...

Saw your set and was very impressed! Would definitely come and see the band again. The setup was music for the young un's at the far ends which made walking to the taxi rank at 1:00am 'entertaining'. Overall we hade a great time.

Sorry for lack of progress! I know who to speak to now, plus have met some bc folk at the EH. Need to find out a hire cost, and will need to fit around an existing event. Alternatively might be possible to combine with some BC putting on a jam night o gig for free in the evening. Or something like that. Night of the Bottom Feeders....

I've had great and awful customer service from the same shops/chains. My experience of B D was positive, but it was very much a 'guided' purchase. Usually that won't work on me but in this case the suggestion was right for me. I especially appreciated being allowed to test the kit with a bass close to my own, at realistic volume and left alone so no embarrassment (ok I may have frightened them off...) Plus, ey understood and readily accepted my insistence on using an amp seg to be as transparent as possible.

The Big Fat South-West Bass Bash 2022 - Sunday 9th October

Hmm. Not sure yet! Might spin a googly unlees folks want to see the AT212? -
We just got back from the Blues Festival in Colne. I won't list all the awesome bands or mention a tiny few les do. Butt.. Gerry McAvoy's Band of Friends. They only had an hour slot, but due to a cancellation were told they vould fo another half hour. It was probably the best time I ever had at a gig. Grown men were weeping for joy. At the end everyone was walking around in a sort of blissful daze. One golden moment, we'd been at the front and my partner and another lady had been grooving all through. During a song near the end Gerry went off to let the redt of the band rip. Then someone stepped paste and tapped my partner on the shoulder, she turned round, saw Gerry and nearly shot through the ceiling. The other lady grabbed a huge hug as I failed to get a photo with more than his shoulder in! The energy, musicianship and sheer fun and engagement with the audience was dimy awesome.

It seems to me that if Bass Direct don't update their stock levels, then get uppity if people order out of stock items, they really need to pull their socks up.

It's worth an extra £2 not to spook Frank. He farts when spooked, and we really dont want that to happen. -
Gone for an HH powered speaker, sound is a bit more balanced than I'd expect from a 5" one, price was silly cheap at £89. May find more applications than just a vocal monitor. https://www.pmtonline.co.uk/hh-hpx108-active-moulded-speaker-300w?gclid=CjwKCAjwmJeYBhAwEiwAXlg0AR7IxodnYb3xBU2UFtKCLQ6Jtx7zjrLWxiHDLEYqcUSZWIa7XRK83xoCW20QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
Stub Mandrel replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
Wouldn't cost a lot to get it powder coated black. -
Hard to put into words. I haven't tried IEMs, but have to use earplugs sometimes in my workshop and have used various earphones. I just find them very difficult, I think it's psychological perhaps.
-
Lots of food for thought. I am happy we keep sound levels sensible on stage, I just need something to bring a bit of clarity to vocals now Alex isn't using a personal monitor and obviously he doesn't want to bring a big floor wedge as that's why he's gone to a single IEM just for his vocals. Sounds like it may be worth trying a mini monitor.
-
That could be an advantage, as I don't want to be a source of feedback!

So Many Roads.

Yesterday at dojndcheck I couldn't here the vocals because the vocalist uses an iem and the pa was well forward of the stage. Had a monitor wedge set up gor me snd drummer and realised how much we've been missing since he went iem. Been looking at small 50w 5" monitors, are these any good? Would one be enough to help me with bvs? Don't want to switch to iems as I find in ear phones very hard to use.

Yep, Barry does a reel every time there's a gig at the EH. Means you get some great pics.
