The Earl Haig in Cardiff. Great venue, big stage, full lights (Focus are playing there on thursday). Audience was bigger than our usual although it wasn't packed out as its 250 capacity. A bit nervous as loads of musicians in there! But we had an awesome time, much dancing and due to a watch misfunction we went 20 minutes over... Thanks to Barry Morris for photos.

Off to the Earl Haig soon. Playing to an audience that really know their blues rock. Eeek!

Someone of Mozart's talent and creativity would have been more likely to be writing Sgt Pepper than The Magic Flute - if he had been born in the 1940s.

Ok poor word choice. What I meant is the light weight/carbon fibre isn't fundamental to the sound. If my cab failed, i would got all the bits in a ply cab of identical dimensions.

Most traditional folk is strictly modal melodies major, minor or mixylodian. If you get the key you can't go too far wrong 🙂

Only made for one year. One figure in my head is 300 made but I may be wrong.

Bass - Fender Performer. T-Shirt - Orange website! ( @FinnDave one of the bands last night played Dark Star, bit of a cheat when you get 'three songs or 15 minutes 🤣 ) Rig... effin' awesome. Ridiculously loud, great for blues rock, best compliment I had was a sound engineer telling me I sounded like Jack Bruce (was using the Epiphone with twin 'probuckers') 🙂

I've seen a lot of well-finished bamboo houseware. It clearly machines well and gives a good finish. I think it's worth remembering that the GR Bass carbon enclosures are a bit of a 'gimmick' - they look good and are light (but relatively delicate). But the sound is not hugely from the cabinet material, it's mostly a good match of size, porting and drivers with a nice stiff construction. You could get the same sound with other materials and good design.

Normal service at last night's jam 👌 But the drummer looks very worried!
-
Because at one gig I was playing a bit loud (ok I was also using an octaver) and at the end of the song the head was nearly off the top of the amp.

Some pics from Saturday... Yes, Alex and I randomly turned up in identical t-shirts!

Saturday we played the Two Brewers in Chepstow, they mostly bobok blues/rock bands so we go down well there. It was hot so we were outside from 8 to 10 with a strict curfew. Drank about four pints of lemonade with a dash of lime... Crowd was a bit less than usual as there was a 'Rock the Castle' event with multiple bands on the same night, but went well. Broke in the new Squier P. Taking my Performer to a jam tonight, 24 fret fun up the dusty end is anticipated, plus I promised someone I'd do Bad penny with him so was cribbing Gerry MacAvoy's ideas last night 🙂

I've gone for the Dakota Red 'vintage' model, with aged chrome and a satin finish it has a 'roadworn feel' without being a relic. The Alnico 5 pups sound great. My opinion is that these top-end Squiers are at least as good as entry level Fenders. I also have a Flea and it was the best of the MIM and American jazzes I tried out. -
