  1. Is there a performance forum? I was thinking about one rolling thread rather than a thread per gig. Will start something, mods can kill it if it's no good...
  2. Have I missed a thread about upcoming gigs? It would be great to see what gigs basschatters are playing near me (and be able to publicise my own gigs in the hopes someone turns up!) Surely there is such a topic, but if there is I haven't noticed it.
  3. I knew a woman whose partner made a living as a Gary Glitter tribute... that career went west.
  4. But the bass tone on that open air concert is to die for. It was actually Klaus Voorman - the best bass player in the Beatles (if you want another unpopular opinion).
  5. Probably more than Durham Durban and Argh Hargh recorded in total...
  6. I've been with Alex our guitarist before, and also plan on coming over with my brother sometime. It's a busy weekend, but I might get over myself (I know comment was meant for @Gottastopbuyinggear)
  7. It's Joan Baeaeaeaeaeaeaeaeaeaz that gets to me...
  8. Thanks both I'll wait for a few suggestions and then check them out.
  9. There's also this of course: But I don't think there's actually a bad version out there...
  10. What's the best free, simple online shared calendar for gig planning? Ideally, something that works on a PC and on an android app and that I can copy and past or drag items from it into Outlook and vice versa? Life is getting complicated!
  11. I got a bit distressed on Sunday when my partner couldn't understand why this is a perfect pop song... Strange, as we have most of our musical taste in common.
  12. Well it did the job very well and with the inexpensive amazon padded strap was uber comfortable with no neck dive. Only issue, my cheap wireless set slightly attenuated the low c and b, still there but not wall shaking. Earned me some cred points too 😎
  13. Seem to be getting some traction. I will see if it might work for the Earl Haig. Otherwise I have a venue in Penarth that would be willing, we could use their big upstairs room on a day when there's a really good band downstairs.
  14. Maybe he just enjoyed the music and didn't expectvhis own mathematical precision firm others. Indeed he may have appreciated the differences as z good thing.
  15. Well done! I've done the odd fretless rehearsal but never had the guts to try a whole gig on one.
  16. Awesome gig last night. 8:45 about 4 people in. But they came, and it was loopy. Loads of improv and I even played a few solos! Pure fun from start to finish for us and the audience. That's what it's all about. 😎
  17. I can't understand why the open string needs to be out, surely a tweak to the nut-first fret distance isn't enough to cause an issue. I never came across an instrument where bad intonation near the nut couldn't be addressed by cutting the nut lower.
  18. Most bands I've been in do that. Usually the ambient sound is so bad I can't bear to listen...
  19. I don't have an issue with playing songs people enjoy. Also I don't mind playing songs with boring basslines that let other band members have some fun. That said there are songs I don't enjoy, one is Feeling Good, because in one rehearsal I nailed a really fitting walking line for it, but I just can't repeat it.
  20. Lol! My brother resisted that song for ages, then eventually acceded because it is the drummer's favourite. They found a blast to play. When they did it at a big gig they managed to blow up the venue's PA 🤣
  21. You wouldnt want the back of a Gretsch showing, with its stupidity pad.
  22. John Thomas? Didn't he pop up in Lady Chatterley's Lover?
