  1. EB just stands for 'Electric Bass' the number designates the body shape/pickups.
  2. My brother sent Gibson a video of his robo-tuners spontaneously unwinding all of the strings on his guitar. It was too unreliable to gig.
  3. We've got three gigs in March... so we've announced it as a mini tour 🙂
  4. The side markers? As above, self adhesive dots. Reversible but effective.
  5. My weak link. As I play a lot of blues, mixylodian comes naturally to me. Other than major/minor ionian/aeolian, I use harmonic minor. I suppose the really interesting thing about mides is each one changes the selection of major and minor chords available.
  6. Just paid £50 for a Hawkwind ticket (after fees and buyer protection). Felt that was STEEP!
  7. I thought Fender's luxury brand was G&L 🙂
  8. Ha! BOTH my Jazz basses are different from each other. One is a 2002 pre-Affinity Squier Standard by the way and it's nice.
  9. Hence 'inverse' snobbery.
  10. I think Leo must have thought about the issue, as the neck pickups are 0.15" narrower, but he obviously miscalculated. Lots of hits for 'pickups not aligning' with pictures of jazz basses with the E and G strings overlapping the inner pole pieces of their respective pairs. As six-pole guitar pickups work perfectly well on a bass, itxs clwarly the overall shape of the magnetic field not the exact location of the pole pieces that matters.
  11. Fender doing a 15% off sale today. Squire Sonic Bronco for £179. In 'ultraviolet' or 'lime green'. Unsurprisingly, ultraviolent is sold out, but slime green still available, if you like that sort of thing.
  12. I think in the old days if you wanted more than two musicians, the venue had to be 'licensed for music and dancing'. I'm in a 'blues rock power trio' 😎 and a five piece classic rock band. Trio is brilliant as it is much easier to be loose and improvise, but to sound good you need to be on top of your game. The five piece, even though it only adds one guitar the sound and discipline needed are very ddifferenn but lets you tackle a wider sonic landscape. I was in a six-piece that added keyboards and that could be a nightmare for agreeing arrangements.
  13. Jazz bass string spacing is 19mm. If the alignment with the pole pieces offends your eye, it could be considered a built in flaw of the pickup design. But every stock jazz ever has essentially the same issue.
  14. Not quite the same thing, but if I gave any concerns about a gig... lighting, pressure to deliver, feeling under the weather, I make life as easy as possible for myself and take my Flea Jazz bass for maximum playability. My Sire P10 gets close.
  15. Please buy it... put us all out of our misery!
  16. I get anxiety just looking at the dials on that...
  17. I'm lucky, my local Evri delivery is a lovely lady. In any case it's always a good idea to get to know your local couriers and treat them with respect. It'sa tough job and making it a bit easier for them is reciprocated.
  18. trace-elliot_GP11-AH350-AH500-MK-V-BASS.pdf
  19. I've been using my Blackstar Amplug 2 recently. With headphones on you can still hear a recording and play along. Sounds surprisingly good, (especially for slap so I think it may have some compression built in).
  20. I'll take that as a sideways compliment! 😁
  21. That's the first evidence I've seen that those prototypes actually existed. I've seen both 85 and 86 dates quoted. I suppose I should take the neck off... I only took it off once, long ago. Also, I thought production was nearer 500 than 100; unfortunately most information on these basses is nearer myth than legend. What is rarely mentioned is that with 40-100 strings on it is very nice to play. I rarely gig it, but it was my main bass in the early 1990s alongside a Hohner B2.
  22. Did we agree on the '40-year-rule' for vintage Fenders? If so, I finally have one after waiting about 34 years.
  23. I assume that it's reasonable to assume that Westones with a Matsumoku stamp on the neck plate are legir?
