  1. Summat very unusual about that guitar; anyone else spot it?
  2. Panchromatic b&w film tends to render blues and reds lighter than their true luminosity. It renders greens darker. I would say the bass is so dark a red or true blue are unlikely, but a greeny blue is possible.
  3. AI can only guess appropriate colours. Look at the curtain, it's coloured it beige on top and blue under the necks. It might just as easily have been red.
  4. Four cheap basses I have that I'd recommend highly: Hohner B2 (My brother gave it to me about 1987). Huge sound, supremely playable and tiny. Hohner Jack Custom V (£130 🤣). My only fiver, really easy to play but neck like an aircraft carrier when you first pick it up). Westone Thunder (about £100). Sounds like a Precision, but more so... Squier Jaguar Short Scale (bought new for £180, but now they go for about twice that s/h). Ridiculously lovely, fun and comfortable to play with one of the nicest neks ever (I A/B'd it with a Warwick in the shop, despite being several times the price the Jag blew the Warwick out of the water for playability). The J-pickup is a bit weak
  5. My brother had one of those built for hi with custom tweaks for over £800. Sold it and regrets doing so very deeply.
  6. If you asked Le Corbussier, he might reply:
  7. Trust your ears. Set everything low and starting from the input dial everything as high as you can get it without having a detrimental effect on the sound. Obvs this will depend on how much distortion or type of tone you want. Some amps behaviour is in other ways e.g. subtle changes in frequency response or compression. If that doesn't work you have the wrong tonewood.
  8. We can't not have a Christmas song by a bass player:
  9. Just one of many good purchase this year... a set of Jazz bass mutes off @walshy of this parish. They ended up on my 2002 Squier Jazz which has been 'disguised' as a '62 one. Been playing it today, and I love the gentle, evenly balanced and hollow sounding muting they give.
  10. I've been vegetarian for 30 years. This reminds me why I am not vegan.
  11. Back in the 90s when I went into a studio*, they just plugged me straight into the desk. I wasn't even allowed to choose what instrument to play if I brought more than one - I demo'd the basses I brought with me, and they always insisted I use the Hohner B2 over the Fender. *Only for recording demos or practice sessions.
  12. Please tell me where you found a pub that sells cheap non-alcoholic drinks! 🤣
  13. In: err, cough, hum this and that... Out: I don’t understand the question.
