1.
I saw that yeah, I have one in the same colour! Love it to bits
Sold it now - didn't think it would hang around long...
 2. Sold my Squier medium scale Precision to Pestie. Straightforward transaction - despite living at the opposite end of the country to me, we managed to sort out a face-to-face deal with a relative in the north & I dropped it off. Cheers!
 3.
I'll have this then
Sold!
 4.
Any interest in a sunburst Squier Vintage Modified Mustang bass plus cash?
Hi Kristo - thanks for the offer, but I'm not really looking for another short scale at the mo. Cheers, B.
 5.
1980's E serial? They're awesome!
They are - and I'm selling one at the mo! 7. Hi - been asked a couple of questions so I thought I'd share them here. The finish has faded to more of a vintage white colour & the weight is quite light - between 7-8lb on our old bathroom scales. Nut width is 1.65" - the neck isn't slim like a Jazz, but is very comfortable. Cheers, B.
 8. Hi - I'm reluctantly putting my white / rosewood Squier Medium (32") Scale Precision up for sale. You don't see too many of these about over in Britain - it's a slightly scaled-down Precision that's no longer being made. It's a Japanese E Series, which means it was built somewhere between 1981 & 1984. There are a couple of dings, but it's in pretty good shape for a 30 year old bass! It came to me with a white scratchplate, but since I've had it the Bass Doc has set it up, built a tortoise shell scratchplate & installed a chrome bridge cover. I'll throw the white plate in with the sale. It's currently strung with Status flats, which give it a classic thump. I don't have a case, so I'm aiming to do a face-to-face deal - I'm based in Newcastle upon Tyne. Give me a shout if you want any more pics or have any questions. 9. I think the fees are more than reasonable for the exposure an ad on here will give you, but I don't know if the one-off ad fee should be £5 rather than £7. It's only a £2 difference, but I reckon going above £5 will be a bit of a psychological barrier for people new to the site. From a revenue perspective, a thousand ads at £5 is better than five hundred at £7 too... B.
 10.
I recently picked up a Jazz5 from hillbilly deluxe: Howard body, Jim neck: best Jazz I've owned.
Looks lovely!
 11. Found this footage of Chic with Bernard playing a Precision - not the best version of the song I've heard, but you can hear that ultimately the magic was in his fingers... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctpYPKj_QvA
 12. Interesting thread. Big fan of Hooky & after reading his book on Joy Division I reckon he'll be having a chuckle at being asked to do a bass masterclass - he openly admits he's tone deaf & is known for hitting bum notes! Cheers, B.
 13.
Several weeks ago I offered to pass on Howard's number to concerned Basschatters. In that time only two people have asked. It would seem that some people would rather diss him on here, even though he won't read it himself. Not impressed. The guy offers excellent work at mates-rates prices. He has hundreds of satisfied customers but as soon as he experiences a few logistical problems people start sticking the knife in. Unbelievable.
Totally agree Conan - only had two PMs after I posted the same. Sometimes it's best to do things the old-fashioned way & pick up the phone... B.

 15. Popped up to Howard's for a flying visit today & he's fine. Some of this has been mentioned already, but a few factors have led to delays: - - His workshop has been out of action for a while, as some unexpected remedial building work needed to be done. - His scratchplate material supplier went bust. He's sourcing alternative supplies. - He's also still having problems with his internet access so isn't able to reply to PMs. I can totally understand the frustrations of not hearing anything, but I don't think there's anything to worry about & a quick call would help move things along. PM me or one of the other members who've posted for his number. Cheers, B.
 16.
I appreciate it's a work in progress but like Mr Horse once said, "No sir.... I don't like it". The marketplace has always been the spark of life for this forum and now that the new listings have lost their linear, conversational vibe for me the forum seems slower and... duller. Rare, coveted or keenly priced items generate more replies in sale threads and stay near the top of the board, whilst less exciting overpriced items sink quickly only to return to view briefly with the echo of a "bump.... bump........ pricedrop.... anybody?". That's a dynamism that the new classifieds lack. I can't see the interaction between members that would normally take place in the old marketplace spilling out into the other forums and I can't imagine why it would. Questions asked in the new classifieds seem non existant and as the number of basses for sale grows I guess will mainly come to consist of.. "is this item still for sale?"
+1 - the site is called Basschat after all! Why not add a discussion section under each ad?
 17. Might be worth having a look on Facebook in the North East Bass Bin too... https://www.facebook.com/groups/nebassbin/

 19. Hi & welcome to the forum. I never knew there was ever a bass version of the Colt - used to go to Guitarzan in Middlesbrough as a kid & they had a Colt guitar that was a bit of a talking point at the time! Sadly Jim Cairnes passed away last year. All the instruments I've seen that he's been involved with have been great & there are quite a few others on here who think the same. I don't have a gigging band myself, but I'm sure there'll be someone on here who'd love to take the Colt out for a number or two... Jim was based in Teesside - are you based in the North East too? Cheers, B.
 20.
Pickup selector for 1 pup.
Remarkable tonal versatility comes from a single powerful Duncan Designed™ PB-102 SCPB single-coil pickup and three-way switching among special tone circuits, which feature a modern bass sound (middle switch position, volume and tone controls), softer "double bass" sound (neck switch position, volume control only) and authentic tic-tac "baritone" sound (bridge switch position, volume control only). Some sort of preset filtering by the look of it... 21.
the bridge pup destroys the aesthetic.
I agree - the single pickup version looks a lot better...
 22.
ian masters from the pale saints. not that i'd imagine anyone has heard of him, or the brilliant pale saints, which is a shame.
I do! Always thought the Pale Saints were much more interesting than most of the indie shoegazing scene they were lumped in with. He had a really subtle chordal style & left loads of space - unlike a lot of his contemporaries... B.
