I would go wired from your sansamp & wireless from the desk to your ears. If you are playing a ‘venue’ and not near the desk you might need a long cable for your P2. Although it may be that it comes to a stage box so you would take the feed from there. as Walman said I’ve not experienced dropouts either. But I suppose there’s always a first time!

The Mackie desk has a mono 6mm Jack so if I put a stereo Jack in I only get one ear. Using a 6mm stereo/mono converter (mine goes to 3mm so I can plug my nux straight in). Not sure how that would work with xlrs I’m afraid.

No such thing as a stupid question if you don’t know! Either scenario would enable you to hear your bass. But you would only get the other instruments ‘ambiently’ through bleed in anything sticking in your ears. If they were making a good seal (as they should) I would expect this to be quite muffled unless you are playing really loud! I would expect you to plug in as you describe but take the feed for your ears from an Aux on the desk. This should enable you to hear ‘what you want’ or, if it’s a basic desk, hear either a shared monitor mix or what’s going out over FOH. For me either would be preferable to just bass. As for which set up I guess it depends whether you want to be wired ‘or not’. I have the Nux version of the Xvive. The comes in a charging case was one of the major pluses for me. Oh, and whichever way you go make sure you have an xlr/Jack or jack/xlr converter so you can plug in to any desk (I’m using a Zoom L12 with jack auxes, the popular Berhinger desks have xlrs).

I solved this on my Mackie desk by using a mono adapter (into the desk). Didn’t worry me as I wasn’t ’expecting’ stereo. Was too weird just hearing in one ear.

Been recommended Brew Twenty Three across the road from the centre for lunch. Anyone local have any experience of the place pls? -
I think the point is that you can get IRs for a lot of things other than Cabs. I have some for acoustic guitar body shapes that I think helps the sound of mine on the odd occasion I’m lured in to playing 6 strings. But also that there is tonnes of stuff thats great on the Stomp so you don’t need to get bogged down with it. I like the Eden cab that’s on the Stomp. Sounds great with the GK800!

Yes, but it's only a threat! You know you need more gear. It won't last more than about a month. Your can go without proper meals for that long! 🤣 -
I take the point about power and single speakon but my U700 only runs into 2.7ohm so I can run a 4 and an 8? Did they change it at some point or could I run two 4s?

I use Impulse Responses on my Stomp live. They are basically bits of code to sound like Cabs or amps (and other things like Acoustic Guitar body sizes). Generally they are ‘third party’ to the maker of the device so a ‘standard’ (think vhs/betamax) was developed. Some devices, like Kemper, can ‘make’ an IR by recording white noise played through an amp/cab. I use the Celestion Berantino IRs a lot. I can put them in almost any preset (often with another cab) and mix my post amp ‘bits’ to get a great sound (that goes to FOH, not my amp). Just needs tweaking like any preset.

I have a Unity 700. Bought 2nd hand from Stealth of this parish. I really like the sound. Very varied. Wasn’t ‘that’ easy to dial in my ideal tone to be fair but I have that now - and a photo of where the knobs should be! - I like using it. It’s paired with my 4ohm Eden and I got it so I could get another 8ohm cab and use the Unity at 2.7ohm when I needed to be loud. However, the band I’m playing in has a great PA and with the pub gigs we’re doing I go straight in with IEMs so don’t bother humping an amp to the gig!

I found the ‘transition’ to flats partly helped by overplaying a fretted and having sore fingers so the flats felt lovely 😂. Most of the ‘damage’ was near the nut. I must be pressing harder there. Ended up with some Labella flats that I don’t like. But they cost too much to not use 😂. Still use rounds on fretted but quite like being able to switch to flats on the fretless.

I used to use rounds as the mwah was just stunning. But do note (in case it matters) that rounds will damage the board. They dig in over time leaving tiny lines.

I use a Boss wireless dongle for my bass (I like the tone and the patches on my stomp are ‘set’ to work with it) even though it’s not needed as I’m not leaping about. What it is great for is wandering out front at sound check to make sure the mix is working. And as for ‘bass’ I get as much as I want through my IEMs. Or as little - as I’m no where near as loud as the band in my head. It’s nice to not be half deaf on the way home! The trade is that yes it’s a bit sterile but you get used to it after a couple of gigs and ‘less tinnitus’ is a positive trade for me.

I should add that my back loves me for it and I can usually do 2 carries and I’m in. That’s desk, lights & stands; Rucksack with leads/Stomp/crap, 2 basses. I did have a helix (when I was mostly playing guitar) but found slimming down to a Stomp was no loss on bass. I change my whole rig depending on song at the press of a button. We are lucky that one of the guitarists forked out for some lovely Bose speakers and I’m quite pleased with the sound I get through them.

I guess everyone is different but I don’t miss having a cab behind me. To put that in context we are playing pretty small pubs with no stage so an added ‘bonus’ is that it’s one less thing to try and fit round the drum kit 😂

Cheers, any idea if the food places will be open or will it be worth bringing sarnies? -

No probs. Can possibly do something using Teams, screenshare HX Edit or sumint. I would council that you need to be able to mod patches on the device - I got into a terrible pickle with my HD500 where I could only make changes when it was connected to a computer (which I didn’t have at rehearsals or gigs!). But designing patches is far easier using the software.
