How does the new Trace compare to the old?
Don't get me started on old Trace gear.... I have recently picked up an ABM500 to get my old sound back. Early indications are good!
. Really hope the cab is plywood and not an MDF..
As far as I know.. MDF is more sonically 'dead' than Plywood and therefore makes a pretty decent material for cabs. The downside is the weight!

... Just read the spec on the EV drivers in that Fender cab. 21 lbs. a pop! No wonder it is a heavy beast....
Boiled linseed oil?
I decided to go with the Linseed oil idea (£3.80 for 500ml from B&Q). Just finished the first coat and it is looking sexy! (Very smooth and matt, at the moment). Gave it a good soak with the oil, keeping the finish wet for about 15 minutes by rubbing on more oil. Then used kitchen towel to remove all of the wetness from the finish, followed by some gentle buffing. I'll probably leave it overnight and repeat tomorrow, maybe using a scotchbrite pad to work the oil in with. How many coats might I need?

The 'How high is your action?' thread - get involved!

Fender suggest 2.5mm (E string) to 2mm (G string) as a good starting point.... (IIRC). Therefore, as the most popular manufacturer: Anything lower than that is low. Anything higher than that is high. -
I have just received a Tech21 VT pedal that I bought from Theo. ... and we only did the deal yesterday! Awesome piece of kit. Thanks mate.
So did you find out which goes loudest? Alex
I wouldn't put my money on the Fender or Aggies in the 'loudness' stakes!

Oddly (or not?)..... I thought the Fender had the most 'full' sound.

Hmmmm... The instructions on the can of Colron Danish Oil I used didn't mention 'rubbing in'. They said to to wipe it on. I think I may have applied too much, and it just sat on the surface and remained sticky. I've done a bit of on-line research, and it seems that Tung and Danish are best applied by rubbing in with wet and dry papers.... starting at 200 grit and working down to 600 grit. It would have been easier to lacquer it...
-
I think some kind of oil is what I need. The 'Danish' I tried just didn't want to dry, it seemed to sit on the surface rather than soak in to the ash.... more like a lacquer! Something to do with being ash, maybe?
Lacquer it - but instead of polishing, sand it down the grades to a matt satin finish. Easy.
I thought about lacquering it with 2-pack clear, then taking the gloss off.... but have in my mind something more natural looking.
french polish? it can take the piss to do though...
Forgive my possible ignorance, but isn't french polish a high gloss finish? I am looking for a finish that looks and feels natural.... like bare wood but with the colour of the grain brought out.
-
A couple of weeks ago, I stripped the paint from an Allparts ash body. I have re-finished it with 'Colron Danish oil', but it came out too glossy and is still sticky... even after flatting off with a Scotchbrite pad. I am now in the process of Nitromors'ing (made up word) it again. I want a finish that is on the matt side of satin, similar to one of my Status basses.... natural looking. I don't want to lacquer it! Any specific suggestions as to what I could try next? Thanks.

I have the chorus and (IMO) it is very nice. I can't hear any difference between 'it' and a Boss.

Up for sale is my Eden Nemesis RS700. I bought it new about one month ago, and it has only been out of my house twice... both times in a case. The RS700 has the distinctive Eden tone, which is both warm and very clean. With my ultra-clean Status, the tone of this amp is absolutely gorgeous at home or when soloing, but... As I play in a loud rock band, I found it too clean and have bought a dirtier amp. If I could afford to keep it just for the odd 'laid back' gig where the tone of this amp would really shine, I would! Eden market this amp as being the Rock Series (RS), but I would suggest that it would be more at home with Jazz, Soul, etc., as it is not what I would describe as an aggressive amp. (Just my view). Anyway, The amp will come in its original pakaging, complete with the warranty (not filled in yet!), Eden footswitch, lead, manual and rack ears. The RS is well spec'd as you would expect from an Eden, features include: The usual Bass, Middle and Treble controls. A sweepable semi-parametric with 15db of boost and cut available from 40hz to 10khz. Edens amazing Enhance control, which can contour the sound to make it incredibly smoooooth. Built in compressor. etc. If you do a search on TalkBass, you will find that some people rate this amp as 'Edens Flagship' (Having owned a WT800, I would be inclined to agree). It runs up to 500w @ 4 ohms and 700w @ 2 ohms. It is obviously 'as new' apart from a couple of marks in the paint, on the top of the case where I had it fitted in an SKB rack case. These would not show when 'cased' and I doubt you could see them in the photos. I need to get £500 back on this amp.
