Jim Bass.... I own a LM2 and struggled for an age to get the sound I wanted. This was instantly cured by using a Sansamp 'VT' pedal. Although the MarkBass is not overly clinical (IMO) it does lack a certain something that a tube adds to the sound. I also own an ABM500 and can get the same sound out of either amp.

Finally had a bit of spare time to switch the connections of the P p/up. All working how it should. Thanks for the tip!

ABM500.... Would look amazingly great on that BIG cab of yours. ... and only 5 minutes away!

A 15" cab from the same range (ABM) would be a fairly safe bet.... and will match visually.

My first 'proper' Bass amp was an HH. It was a 15" combo with a fully parametric EQ and a built in compressor. I think it was only 100 watts, although loud enough for the job. I played blues back in the day, and it was ideal. A lovely warm and rich tone. I would (should) have kept it, but.... It fell out of the back of the van on the way to a gig. The poor little thing didn't take too kindly to bouncing down the road!

I run my LM2 totally 'flat' and use a Sansamp to get the sound/s I want.... kind of a tubey warmth? I would guess your B2 should be capable of getting your tone with a bit of tweaking. If you can get your rig to sound how you want it to at low volume, then just adding another cab should do the trick. ... and save you some cash!

I would be surprised if a Barefaced BigOne isn't what you are looking for. I have never used a cab with sooooo much of everything in one box!

If it's Ok for smaller gigs, then maybe adding another cab would do the trick for bigger gigs? I use an Ashdown 2x10 with an Aguilar 1x12 and a MarkBass LM2. It can make any type of sound that I need.

I have had the same problem when fitting Gotoh 201's. Shimming is the way to go.

Used LM2s seem to be changing hands for around £400. I would think they are a fairly safe bet, as I haven't heard of many failures considering how many of us are using them.

I have since built three basses using MightyMite necks, the Jazz, a Fender Jap Precision and an Allparts bodied Precision. I didn't have any issues with fitting the necks and can confirm that (IMO) they are pretty good. They do need the nuts cut (unless you like a very high action). The fretwork is nice and level and just needs a quick polish. At £75, it's worth a try?

I had a similar(ish) problem and it turned out to be a cracked solder joint. Jack socket to PCB in my effects unit. It was one of those anoying intermittent faults, and I spent ages chasing it. Good luck! -
I run my LM2 totally flat. .... although I play through a Sansamp VT, which is also set pretty flat.

Also... I think that if the sound you are getting, with the amp and bass set completely flat, is not even in the right ballpark you might have the wrong kit (for you).

Start with everything totally flat and tweak from there..... if needed.

Thanks for the tips, I'll give that a go! The frame is a modified Santee... stretched and lowered. The rear suspension is like a Harley Softail... the shocks are hidden under the rear arm. My rigid riding days are over, paticularly with the state of some of the roads here in the west country.

Hi, That makes sense! So as I change the polarity of the Jazz pickup, I cancel out one or other of the Precision pickups. The Precision pickup (Wizard Thumper) does seem to work fine on its own. Is there a way I can test this, or is it just a case of switching the connections on the Thumper... and seeing what happens?

How about a Trace 4x10 combo? ... Or an Ashdown ABM500 4x10 combo? Either could be picked up for not a lot of money on this forum..... (Unpopular due to their weight?). and would do the job nicely with a Sansamp VT pedal. -

Alex, That's a good point. Eden amps sound quite 'hi-fi' to my ears, but they are said to have a built in mid-scoop. Have you tested the response of the LM2? -
I have just finished building a natural ash bodied PJ. It has a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder P pickup and a Wizard '84 J pickup, with stacked volume pots. Anyway, I also have a P bass that has a Wizard Thumper, so I thought I'd swap the P pickups. Quarter Pounder in the Precision and Thumper/'84 in the PJ. I did the transplant, plugged in the PJ, and found that with both pickups on 'full' the output dropped considerably. No problem, I thought, reverse the wiring on the J pickup and all will be fine. (I had to do this when I fitted a pair of '84s to my Jazz). But, After reversing the Jazz pickup, I noticed that the output drop was still there... but only on the D and G strings. Huh?, So I reversed the Jazz pickup again, and sure enough the output drop was only on the E and A strings. After much headscratching, I put the Quarter Pounder back in the PJ and the Thumper back in the Precision.... and they all work fine. I am stumped. Probably missing something obvious! Any ideas?
