The problem with too many basses
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in Bass Guitars
:
Jack Daniels bass!!! sorry, back on topic now...
you missed it?! I 'm putting it back later. I was thinking of drop tuning that and using it for the songs that are downtuned. -
Ah right. I used to have a Hohner B2A that had a D-tuner on the bridge, so the parts do exist, but I don't know if it's really practical (or desirable) to swap bridges on a headless bass.
Thanks again. If I could change the bridge , that could solve alot of problems and really pimp up the steiney. There was an original Steiney on ebay that got away last week with a DB bridge. -
My Washburn Status is made of 'rich American walnut'. Fantastic

I think Cliff was the most talented person in Metallica inho. Altho' James and Lars are great songwriters. Checkout the call of ktula from Ride the Lightning . Another Cliff Classic.........

The problem with too many basses
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in Bass Guitars
O ne thing I forgot to point out ,is that I do understand the 5 string(ie you can play stuff that's usually at the end of the neck on a 4 string halfway up the neck on a 5) Alot of stuff I'm fine on , it's just that certain songs have always been played on adg strings and I keep having to look a the neck alot more to ensure I don't cross strings. At home I'm fine with the Bigger Schecter , but as I haven't used a full bodied 5 string live I'm a bit nervous.. -
If you do decide to sell, drop me a pm about the Schecter. I already have a Custom-5 and wouldn't mind another similar Stilleto style as a 2nd bass.
Will do. If a trans-trem steiney came up ,or a 5 string headless(not hohner) I'd have to consider offloading this. -
Hipshot D-tuner?
Thanks for the suggestion. I play headless most of the time. The 5 string means that I don't need a hipshot. Unfortunately , the headless can't provide that facility. -
Howdy! As you can tell by my signature, I have a few basses. I have been playing headless the most but have a few full sized ones also. I have gigged with the Telecaster, and took it to a jam session no problem . Now the quandry I'm in is that I'm now playing a couple of songs in drop d in the band. Okay, I 've been using the 5 string of late. More often than not, I've always been playing the Washburn or the hamburger bass(both headless of course) as I'm used to these for so long. Trouble is, I do love the Schecter, but I wanna avoid the Les Dawson technique in a band situation . Question is: Do I wait for another Steinberger/Washburn to appear(or even a 5 string Status) and sell the lovely Schecter? Or do I just bring along 2 basses(one of course in BEAD) Or do I stop being a cissy ,and get a really good quality adjustible strap and persevere with the 5 string. One thing that I may have to watchout for is the different frequency of passive/active basses when playing live if I bring 2 basses. Cheers guys
I use a Studio GX and yes I'm able to play along to stuff through it. A word on Riffworks, personally I think its crap. If you're used to using programs to record stuff you're best off sticking with ableton. The only good thing for me about riffworks is the drum loops so I just record the loop I want then export it into ableton. Ableton is much nicer to use than Riffworks and you get it free with the GX. Just my 2p.
Thanks for that. I'll leave riffworks alone

Original Steinberger basses vs Spirit
Lovely ! dont think ive seen a pj config before .. really tight to the bridge as well , do you anchor on the p ? ooer , think i might need a thumb rest .. Wooden f/board ? or phenolic ? Love the binding too, like a dinner suit ! tuxedo berger maybe ? And so nice to steinys being brought out dusted off and displayed , just to fuel my gas ....only played a couple L2 and XL but allways , allway impressed . Apols to the OP for going slightly off topic .. Cheers! I do anchor ,but it's great for pick playing as well. It's a phenolic neck. It's a custom xl2/3. (Didn't know it was custom when I got it) After a transtrem or white original cricket bat. -
Is that one of the newer, cheaper models or one of the original "bodied" Steinbergers that had a body designed by Roger Giffen?
It's an original xm2/3 ? Custom pickups -
The last thing I need is people who can actually play bass watching me.
I think wherever you play ,you'll always get ''the beards'' who watch everything. ''They missed a note there..''etc. Don't worry about it. -

Is this the nicest bass ever made ?
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE replied to edstraker123's topic in Bass Guitars
Not my kind of thing at all. Not even slightly good looking and a long way from beautiful. And at that price I'd expect the J pickup to have the correct string spacing to be fitted properly.
+1 -
Dude, where's the bass player?

Not uncle fester? Not my cup o' tea. Sounds a bit like early cream to me.(Nothing wrong with cream btw) Prefer the preview clip on you tube much more
