I was going to buy a Jack Casady bass, but....
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE replied to Tvrtastic's topic in General Discussion
It looks a bit complicated in places, but the you tube clips ive seen make it not as daunting as it could be . I think being bass players , we just tend to plug and play etc . Brlieve it or not , I'm going through a similar phase to yourself . I'm a couple of years older , but stopped gigging years ago. A couple of years ago , I got the moog grandmother after seeing it reviewed I found it daunting , and as it's a little on the large side I was struggling where to put it in my small flat . Problem solved during lockdown , and I'm slowly getting tangerine dream and klaus Schulz sounds . A couple of weeks ago , I saw a moog dfam and it was too hard to refuse on fleabay . I'm now contemplating off loading a couple of basses ๐ Enjoy your new toy ๐ผ -

There's lots going on there, and hours of fun . I looked at this on you tube , and there's an abundance of stuff on there. Now get a moog to go with it ๐ผ -
Basic mixer question ..
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in Recording
Thankfully , even I have been using multiple tracks on GarageBand . I even manage to reduce the volume on the various tracks if needed . I even drag the track length of various bits here and there . Who would've thought ?๐น Recently , I actually started labelling what instrument is what on the various tracks . Still learning something new ๐ธ I hope this makes things clearer .. -
Basic mixer question ..
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in Recording
Thanks for this DAD ๐ผ you always reply sensibly it has to be said ๐บ As it's a usb mixer , it seems to go straight into my Mac no problem . So basically ( best way to describe );, I plug my bass/ synths / bass effects into the various inputs and sound seems to go into GarageBand and off I go . I'm not brave enough to use a mic , although I do have a nice one from maplins . I'll look into your suggestions regarding aux etc . I was kind of wondering how I'd pan from left to right for example while actually recording bass at the same time . Sounds like a juggling act . What I have been doing so far, is just letting the noises I'm making go straight into GarageBand and just saving them into an iTunes file and uploading to sound cloud . That's too easy , but I'm missing out on cleaning up my act so to speak . Hope this explains things better ๐ผ -
While I'm in the recording section , I thought it best to update ๐ผ I think that I'll purchase Logic around Christmas and treat myself to a present then . In the meantime , when I'm more enthused I'll try tackling reason when I'm in the mood . That way , all bases are covered . Thanks for your help

Howdy! I'm getting more enthused recording on GarageBand since lockdown. All well and good . My mixer is a Behringer x1204 usb . I have 2 quesdtions that hopefully the cool folk here could advise . 1) How do I pan left and right ? I know how to twist the buttons left and right . That's about it . 2) How do I add effects that are built into the mixer ? I have bass effects pedals/ multi-storey etc but using the effects on 5he mixer may save hassle plus be more fun and inspiring to use . I know how to select the effects , but not how to record with them. I think that's enough to be thinking about for now, so I'll leave it there .. Thanks in advance

Just one more update ๐ผ... I tried a few times connecting stuff via midi and no go . Fair enough , I left things at that . Not the end of the world . I'm going to keep the boss dr groove dr202 drum machine , despite the buttons sticking at times and the cheesy tunes . It has a wicked roll function . I'm still not inspired enough to setup my own user presets . What I did a couple of weeks ago ( times being extremely hard ) . I took a gamble and purchased a moog dfam off a great ebayer . This to me is like tangerine dream in a box . Or nine inch nails ... I may purchase a cheaply korg type drum machine which is as easy to use as the dfam .No rush though .. Anyway , I'll leave it there ... Thanks for your help

I remember hearing about the track they released about mick hucknall having sex with a rabbit He was holding back the ears ..

I find that bass synth sounds vary to an extent also. Some might sound off putting , and some great . A lot may depend if you have a certain sound that you are after .

You may have to " make an aggregate device " . I think that's the term .There is a video on you tube explaining . For example , my line 6 toneport uxb and my behringer usb mixer connected , and got recognised no problem I purchased a behringer um audio interface, and came into the same problem that you seem to have here. You will need to go into your utilities folder . Checkout you tube about creating aggregate device for your audio interface ..

I think that you summed up mustaine and megadeth pretty acurately . I've always preferred metallica though. I only had peace sells for many years, but now have a fair bit of their back catalogue . I'd say peace sells and rust in peace are killer albums . The last 2 occasions I saw megadeth were at the Astoria , back in the 2000's The first time , they rocked . They had one of their classic line ups . The last time , they were truly awful and dull . Probably because he had session musicians . A young " girl" starting a fight in the crowd didn't help in a packed venue by the bar..

Listened on my iPad .nice job .

Thought I'd best update .. I read the manual . I found out that when inputting an external instrument , you have to set VCA Mode to Drone before doing anything else . Success! No midi , just the input at the back of the moog . I spent a fair bit of time , and tbh and imho it sounded dreadful . That's me that's got to get to grips with it , If I'm in the mood I may have another mess around with that scenario. I plugged my bass in the moog , and again imho it was poor. What I also did just for fun, was plug the moog into my Roland bass combo which has various effects etc . Roland bass micro cube . That didn't sound too bad . The only thing of note there, was the t-wah wouldnt agree with the moog What I'll probably do , is keep all instruments seperate when recording , though I may plug the drum machine into various effects etc or through the amp. I am considering offloading the drum machine , and getting something more modern and smaller,. That's something for another time . I'll leave it there for now ...

Thanks DAD ๐ผ Of course I haven't read the manual ๐บ I did watch a few you tube clips etc ,and it seemed straightforward enough . I did try connecting to the clock sequencer at the back . The drum machine is a Boss DR-202 if that means anything I plugged my bass into the input socket , and nothing doing there either . I will follow your advice , and report back . My electric shaver packed up, so I was faffing around looking at reviews etc which has made the time flyโฐ๐ฆ Will keep you updated ..

After finally getting to grips with the grandmother over the last few weeks , I heard that I could plug my old Boss drum machine into it. Well, I did that and it was a waste of time . I tried using the audio input , by using a cable with the mini Socket from the drum machine on one end and using a larger phono Jack to connect to the grandmothers audio input socket . Still nothing . I know that midi is supposedly complicated, but what am I doing wrong ? I'd expect that the scenario would appear to all synths and drum machines , but what do I know ? Thanking you in advance ..๐ผ

Apologies for another post , but I think there was a Washburn bass in the last decade that had a whammy bar .. -

Where are all those Washburn basses?
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE replied to adriansmith247's topic in Bass Guitars
My Washburn is the same as Cato , but with a twist. Back in the mid '90s I got carried away at band rehearsals . I punched the body. This gave me a couple of years of grief. One repair after another via Denmark street. Then one day , graham Noden in Denmark street suggested taking the active circuitry out ( if the pickups were strong enough ). Job done. Bass has always been my go to bass. Most bands I was in ( rock covers / blues) preferred the new sound . If I got another one as I'm no longer gigging , I'd keep those and offload the rest . If I eventually get one , I'd get it defretted.... -

If it's a status , I may have to invest ๐ผ -
This rings a bell .. I have a line 6 ux1 and that works perfectly , so forget that for a moment . I had issues when I lost the installation cd , so ended up buying I think the same model behringer as yours . I had the same problem . I found the solution by going onto you tube . You need to "create an aggregate device ." I did this on my iMac . I'm just about to nod off now ๐, but if problem not resolved tomorrow I'll see if I can find it . zzz...
