1. If I had 2 bars in a sequence (one of 4 and one 3) I'd create a bar of 7 beats. It doesn't necessarily need to go into a 7/4 time signature. If you're writing in a sequencer I would keep the signature in 4/4.
2. It's just 3 or 4. Anything like 5 or 7 I write in 4. You can make nearly anything beyond 3 make sense in 4 apart from 6 which is the same as 3.
3.

That's one of my favourite clips of him. Perfect duo with Gadd
4. One of my heroes. I loved those flamenco techniques he introduced to the bass. The other side of him was like Hank Marvin: GA -TWANG!!! Wow! It's true his style isn't as harmonically sophisticated as some others and I remember his solos were once criticised for sounding like someone going 'bibble, bibble bibble' but I still think he's great.
5. Here are my two basses. The one on the right is a 31" scale custom bass and really suits me. I just cannot understand why conventional basses are so huuuge!
6. I don't think he realises how extraordinary that muting and plucking technique of his is. Most of us mortals can't get within a mile of it. I learned a bit of it then gave up and decided to use brute force for the remaining 90% of my playing.
7. I did see Grandmaster Flash on his first UK tour in 1980 and really enjoyed that.
8. I have only one hiphop record which I still like and play occasionally: http://youtu.be/95gP3m-uBHA I've gotta admit I'm attracted to the spooky atmospheres and loops rather than the lyrics
9. Yep, I'm a fan. I can only marvel at his funkiness and extraordinary technique. I love the way he works with drummers and programmed elements. Some of his playing tips have helped me too - especially his emphasis on playing as lightly as possible to avoid fatigue. I must get to see him in concert at some point.
10.
you could run it in a loop of a Boss LS2. Then leave your pedal on and turn it on and off with the LS2. Just set the loop volume on the LS2 nice and high.
Ah, that looks like a good solution. Thank you.
11. anybody...? If I could activate the pedal and have its volume boosted with one switch...that's what I'm after..
12. I have a pedal I want to use but it has no volume onboard and it unusable because of a volume drop when deployed. I'd like to get the pedal up to a louder volume. My question is, what is the cheapest and simplest way to solve this problem? Thanks Kev
13.
As I said the end of a perfect friendship.
*Chortle*
14. And finally, our host himself:
15. More pics
16. The Moth: the most intriguing bass at the show for me And probably the best sounding, best playing and certainly one of the best looking basses at the show IMO
17. Ritual and prayer
18. Friendly faces
19. White Chocolate More white Chocolate
20. The patient will live.
21. That man, Dave, doing a Chapman stick solo. 'Amused' audience.
22. Rigs Double headed guitars. Tenor guitars. More basses
23. To Scotland Sleepy Moffat. Distant rumbles from one end of town. Basses More basses
24. There should be far more choice with short scale basses. Normal scale length is unnecessarily, ridiculously huge IMO
25.
To be fair, he's released fifty one odd albums, so could it could be just 1.37 million hardcore fans ;-)
