1.
I bet the total is far more than that. For the vast majority music just isn't that important.
Yep, I think that's true. The main obstacle any of us will face as musicians is sheer indifference. That's what we're all fighting...except bands like Coldplay and U2 who everyone loves without reservation, of course.
 2.
That's at least 70 million people who 'don't like music' then. According to the British Hit Singles & Albums book, he has reportedly sold in excess of seventy million albums worldwide[sup].[/sup] [sup]http://en.wikipedia....es_.26_Albums-1[/sup]
Ok, there's something wrong with me then.
 3.
Yeah, you could well be right but he did have some really excellent musicians in his bands over the years. For any pro musician in the 70s and 80s it was obviously a very good gig to get.
I'm sure it was. Okay if you have absolutely no conscience or sense of shame and didn't mind being in the service of the very devil himself. James Last hammered more nails in to the coffin of good music than Midge Ure and the entire Live Aid concert. I just hope those musicians who had a hand in that conspiracy have difficulty sleeping at night.. just like the poor victims who were subjected to James Last records by cruel, heartless mothers in the satellite towns and conurbations of this great nation of ours.
 4.
Maybe not everyone's cup of tea but Hansi had some excellent musicians in his band over the years.
I don't quite know how to reply to this... other than to say I sincerely believe from the bottom of my heart that James Last is MUSIC FOR PEOPLE WHO DON'T LIKE MUSIC.
 5. My father had no interest in music and my mother hated music...and pretty much everything else. Growing up at home and living with her was quite literally like listening to the demented ravings of a Daily Mail editorial 18 hours a day. She would sit there very night in front of TV ranting about how 'stupid' everyone looked and how 'rubbish' pop music was...but strangely she was quite content to listen to James Last's arrangements of pop tunes ...with all the vocalists removed, of course . There were 5 albums in their collection before me and my brothers and sisters started buying Gary Glitter records. I was brought up mainly on this...which probably explains a lot...if not everything.
 6.
Be aware that the sound will change - much brighter and more edge. Nice, but different. On a Wal I'd be thinking new ebony board (not by Wal necessarily) if I loved the sound of that bass. On a side note, in the early days Wal used a wood called something that sounded like parrot sh*t (as Pete called it) some form of South American hardwood similar to the stuff they use for bow making. Looks like rosewood but a lot tougher. A friend has an old ProIIE fretless with this, and it is the best sounding fretless I've ever heard - a real woody growl. I don't think they used it much, as it was hard to find.
It's never really had the long sustain 'growl' to the sound that I associate with Wal basses, unfortunately. That's probably why i tend to play it very percussively (lots of short notes and tremelos). It also has several dead spots on the neck - we're talking very dead - like bumpf! I've had the bass for 30 years and in that time it's had several re-sandings by the Wal people. The last one was around 1993 by Pete. I'm pretty sure it's not a particularly hard bit of ebony. Take a look:
 7.
Just been in touch with Jon Shucker and he confirmed they offer this service http://www.shukergui...k/services.html
Thanks
 8.
If your fingerboard is badly worn you may be just as well biting the bullet and having a new one installed.
It's a Wal - so it would be expensive with a long wait time. I think a sanding and epoxy would be the answer.
 9. It's definitely not something I'd attempt myself...
 10. Does anyone know where I can get this treatment on a fretless fingerboard in the UK? My fingerboard is very worn and I need to think about a more permanent solution. I have looked at the Bass Gallery website and other websites and they do not seem to offer this service. Any clues/links/contacts/experiences appreciated. Kev
 11. Tonight! Still haven't had a single Basschatter at any of my gigs yet!

 13.
To lighten up the mood, a couple of pics that may or may not eventually end up in my blog Nick, Steve, Anna, Chris, Tom
Ah, it was the Steve, the tall guy, I chatted to. Nice bloke.
 14.
Nice review. Can you try a pub in Chelmsford or Southend next for a comparison?
15. Prescott are on very early this gig - 7.45
 16. Snorkel are well worth checking out
 17. The Woodentops play the brand new album release with some back catalogue. Two hot bands from Slowfoot records, Snorkel & Prescott share the stage and nu Balaeric dj Horton Jupiter fills the gaps between these three sonic bands. 18. Quieter than last time I went. Enjoyed Jeff Berlin's talk. Highlights for me were Alan's new basses at ACG and the Eve basses which were really beautiful. Stayed about 2 hours and said hello to a nice Basschat fellow
 19.
one of the most multi-talented and experienced singers/writers/producers/performers on the planet,
One hears this mantra over and over again concerning Prince... almost like the star-struck fans have learned it off by heart or something.
 20. I've never understood why people call him a 'genius' over and over again. That vid is something you can see any pub RnB band do in Chelmsford or Southend any night of the week. Fine if you like that sort of thing but is it really the product of a 'genius'?
 21. Here are SimakDialog live: http://youtu.be/xs53EMuIxVU http://youtu.be/roId92XQ2MM
 22. This has got to be one of the best fusion albums I've heard in years. The band leader is Riza Arshad and the band are from Indonesia and are quite well known there. https://moonjunerecords.bandcamp.com/album/the-6th-story
 23.
I saw Pere Ubu last year and was very impressed with Michele Temple, very disciplined playing on her lovely G&L Asat. You can see her in action here from just a few nights ago: http://culturebox.francetvinfo.fr/sons-dhiver-2014-pere-ubu-147937 You've got to skip through Mr Thomas's stream of consciousness ravings for a minute or two before they start.
. I watched that gig on line last week . Yes, she's a very confident player.
 24. The Ibanez S series ranges in price from about £300 (I think for the 470) to £2400 for the prestige, although I'm not entirely sure as keeping up with the Ibanez catalogue is a challenge as they regularly delete models.
 25. The Cort Aero 2 has a really thin body a bit like the Ibanez S series. About £300
