1. No gas but curious about these:
2. I highly recommend this; a chance to see the almost unknown Gerry Bird on bass - he's a fantastic, individual player and I'm a fan! Ricardo Tejero/Ian Smith/Katarina Kuchnicka and Alan Wilkinson/Jerry Bird/Robin Musgrove – 20 April 2011 14 Apr, 2011 | Author: Admin | No Comments » Ricardo Tejero/Ian Smith/Katarina Kuchnicka Unusual wind improv ensemble with Spanish reed player joined by trumpet and trombone. + Alan Wilkinson/Jerry Bird/Robin Musgrove Stormy saxman pits his chops against the funkiest free bass and drums in town. 3. I would prefer to play BEAD rather than go to 5 strings, but the tuning is too low for me (I just cannot hear that low) Someone who really makes it work is Chris Gartner:
4.
I would hazard a guess that the people who play more than just bass are also songwriters?
Aye. I played nothing but acoustic guitar 2004 - 2007 as it helped with the songwriting at the time (which involved lots of chords). It was more helpful than playing bass. I'm not confident enough to play guitar at a gig, though. It does not come naturally to me.
5. I think you have to be tolerant and patient with buyers. Just answer the questions; even if they are obvious. You've got to expect some timewasting and some odd or selfish behaviour... and they may come back and buy it, despite all this. Sooner or later someone will turn up and buy your items in a straightforward manner. Have faith.
6.

Very sweet
7. Richard Thompson is probably the best none hybrid picker
8. I played a basschatter's a few months ago. It had a nice neck and was lightweight. If I was going to get a Fender I would probably get one of these. However, some people here think the pickups are a bit weak. The basses always come in black gloss which really puts me off.
9.
my two beutiful seis, need a sei 5 now to make a set !!
What a lovely bass that 4-string is...
10.
Just got this back from the gallery (sei bass) & Martin has done a stunning job fretting this for me
I don't understand - I thought you were trying to sell that recently? Why have you had a re-fret?
11.
no hearing issues that i've heard about
very funny
12.
So why did ya go for maple on the custom?
Just for looks really. .
13.
well i love mine !!
Can we have a review, please?
14. I now have 4 basses with ebony boards so there must be something I like about them.
15. Sounds like a million dollars - on the other hand I've heard you make all your other basses sound like a million dollars too
16. It doesn't say much for bass culture when the punters don't like it, the exhibiters don't like it, innocent bystanders don't like it, record producers don't like it anymore... and even the perpetrators ( the players ) don't necessarily like it but still persist in doing it... like someone picking at a scab when they should let it heal - or somebody 'enjoying their own farts but not anybody else's' (to quote Entwhistle) Just do it it private...
17.
I don't think we should be putting people off trying it
Oh, C'mon, Crez.
18. I've never liked it. I don't even like the 'slick-slappers' - the ones that supposedly do it well - the Alan Caron's, Vic Wootens and Mark Kings of this world. Anyway, it seems to be reserved for trade shows and equipment showcases... which is why I never attend them. Thankfully it does not exist in the real world (apart from the odd, naff gig, of course).
19. ...I'm still dithering about coming along on Saturday. I'd like to see Gary Willis play but don't want to listen to the din of a million slappin' clankin' chumps.
20.
It would be interesting to see how that lower horn would dig on your leg when playing sitting down, which is one of the problem that for instance a Bongo has, the lower horn on the Bongo really does dig and hurts, I should imagine the one on that new Ibanez to be worse.
It won't dig in your leg at all. The Bongo is digging in because the leg curve is shallow and there is tendency to pull the bass backward which means you're trying to balance the bass on the horn - which will hurt, of course. That is impossible on the Grooveline because of the depth of the leg curve.
21. Wow, first class bass.
22.
I love this forum! Edit: a great watch, but not from 'historie de melody nelson' though.
Sure, but I'm assuming that's the sound everyone's after! It really is one of the greatest bass sounds in history - but it's all about context, y'know. There were a few bassists playing like that at the time that were never heard next to loud, bluesy, boring guitarists. You can hear Odgers next to the strings.
23. I don't think you necessarily need flats to get the sound as some people do. You either need to palm mute or have felt/sponge mutes near the bridge. You need to play with a pick (or forefinger nail) and have a bass with a neck pickup. Don't solo the bridge pick up.
